December 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Hello loves!

After the festivities, I’ve been busy busy cleaning my house that I’ve barely gotten a chance to sit down and plan my blog schedule for the rest of the month. Hopefully I can get some down time this week to figure it out and come up with exciting content for you.

I finally finished this post last night to give you mini reviews of the products I received in my Ipsy bag last month. I was actually quite pleased with the products I received. ๐Ÿ™‚

As always, you don’t have to read the entirety of this post, so feel free to browse through the products you are curious about. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bag Contents:

  • Promise Organic Nourishing Coconut Milk Daily Facial Scrub with Walnuts and Sugar
  • SMASHBOX Cosmetics Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary
  • PIXI By Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Duo in Orchid Ornament
  • LUXIE Beauty Precision Shader Onyx Brush 239
  • FEEL Brilliant Bamboo Charcoal Facial Sheet Mask

LUXIE Beauty
Precision Shader Onyx Brush 239

Quick Description & Claims:

This angled brush helps you evenly blend shadow into your crease (try using it in a windshield wiper motion), making a smoky eye easier than ever. The super soft bristles are synthetic, so no furry friends were harmed in the making of your fluffy new brush.

Mini Product Review:

I can never say no to brushes, especially from Luxie. These are the softest, fluffiest brushes I have ever tried! Despite the shape, this brush can be used as a blending brush for the crease, or to pack some shadow onto the eyelid.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

Promise Organic
Nourishing Coconut Milk Daily Facial Scrub with Walnuts and Sugar

Quick Description & Claims:

Your skin will soak up all the nourishing ingredients in this scrub including organic honey and aloe. It lathers up to a light foam that feels like fluffy clouds on your skin. Itโ€™s pH balanced and gentleโ€”so itโ€™s safe for ipsters with sensitive skin.

Mini Product Review:

I. LOVE. THIS. SCRUB! My previous favorite was the Alba Botanica acnedote Face & Body Scrub because of the ground walnut it contained, so I know too well that walnuts are a good ingredient in scrubs (not to mention sugar for exfoliating and coconut milk for a vast amount of benefits!)

This scrub is sooo good and so gentle. Although it didn’t lather up very much, I loved how smooth my skin felt after using it. I also love how the scrub melts into my skin after massaging it into the skin in small, gentle circles. That is just so satisfying to me.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

Brilliant Bamboo Charcoal Facial Sheet Mask

Quick Description & Claims:

This pitch-black mask is saturated with purifying active charcoal that clears out all the ickiness from your pores. Some charcoal treatments can be drying, but this one is loaded with skin-quenching hyaluronic acid so your face will feel mega-hydrated after using it. Weโ€™re super into anything and everything from the motherland of next-level skincare (Korea), and this detoxifying mask is no exception.

Mini Product Review:

I’m slowly getting into K-beauty skincare, and this mask was perfect! You all know that I love anything charcoal because it truly works and my skin just loves it! This was no exception either. I forgot to take a photo in time for this post, but the mask was black.

I loved using it more than I thought I would, and it was nice to not have to wash-off a charcoal product for once. The serum was perfect, and smooth, it was enough to bring it down to my decolletage. Charcoal products CAN dry your skin out, but this one felt so hydrating! It made my skin feel pretty radiant and soft. I felt no irritation, redness, or dryness, which makes me very very happy!

Cruelty Free? Yes!

PIXI By Petra
Mesmerizing Mineral Duo in Orchid Ornament

Quick Description & Claims:

Itโ€™s got two shadows made with super-fine minerals that reflect light and make imperfections hard to see. Want to amp up your look at night? Just add water. These silky pigments get intensified when applied wet.

Orchid Ornament is a peachy champagne shade paired with a shimmery plumโ€”and theyโ€™re both inspired by gemstones.

Mini Product Review:

This eyeshadow duo is very pretty, I think. Finally two shades that can be used together! These shadows can be used dry or wet, and as I write this, I’m kicking myself because I can’t believe I forgot to swatch these wet! (I’m sooorrry!!)

Anyway, I did try the shadows both wet and dry. I used them dry in the MOTD at the bottom of this post, but I got a pretty good idea at how they work wet vs dry.

When used WET: the intensity and pigment was far better than using them dry, in my opinion. I liked it better wet, but it was also a bit harder to blend than when used dry. In terms of packing it onto the eyelid, they worked fabulously. (NOTE: blending it out when wet is still* achievable, just takes time and patience).

When used DRY: it’s still pigmented, but it took me longer to cover the eyelid so as to not appear patchy. That’s not to say they apply patchy because they don’t**, but I had to dip into the pan for more to cover my eyelid evenly. The shade is way more subtle dry, and also less intense, but it’s still pretty pigmented.

I recommend using these WET for a night out, and DRY for day / every day wear. (Just my own personal opinion).

Cruelty Free? Yes!

SMASHBOX Cosmetics
Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary

Quick Description & Claims:

It doubles as a blush if youโ€™re short on time. Just dot it on your cheeks and blend. Itโ€™s made with nourishing ingredients that your lips will love like vitamin E, vitamin C, and moisturizing shea butter. Itโ€™s paraben-free (so itโ€™s gorgeous and good for you).

Mini Product Review:

I thought this shade of red was very pretty and it would have been a great one to use over the holidays. It’s so creamy and applies VERY EASILY, and my lips felt pretty hydrated throughout the day, thanks to vitamins E and C and shea butter.

I forgot that it doubled as blush, so I didn’t try it that way, but I would love to try it another time and see how well it works as a blush. I did like this lipstick and the formula, I’m so happy to have gotten it!

Cruelty Free? Yes!

MOTD & Product Swatches:

I used the Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Duo on the eyes–the plum shade on the eyelid, and the peachy shade as an inner corner and brow bone highlight. As mentioned above, I didn’t get to use the Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick as a blush..

I used the eyeshadows DRY, and I thought it was perfect for daytime wear. I would recommend using the shadows wet for a night out, though.

I really, really liked how well the peachy shadow from the Mesmerizing Duo reflected light, so I ended up using it as an all-over highlighter and it was STUNNING! Can you tell?! I can’t imagine how gorgeous it would look wet!

Here are some swatches:

I was very pleased with this entire bag because EVERY. SINGLE. PRODUCT. is CRUELTY FREE! ๐Ÿ˜€ Yassss! I’d love to know what you guys got in your bags and how you liked them!

    1. Awh that’s too bad! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It’s a really great formula though! I do think that’s one of the cons about subscription boxes, lots of products can be misses or will not suit one’s skin tone.

  1. That’s so awesome that everything in the bag was cruelty-free!! I noticed that before I read the last sentence, haha. The eyeshadow and lipstick look amazing on you, Rossy! And I’ve been thinking about trying K-Beauty products, too! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I know, that made super happy because it’s rare to get only cruelty free items!
And thank you so much! ๐Ÿ˜˜
You really should, I’ve already had a chance to try a few through Ipsy and Sephora Play subscriptions, and they’re amazing! It’s no wonder people rave about k-beauty.

      1. Yeah!! I actually am getting a box that’s all cruelty-free for nearly double the price as ipsy so I’m kind of like UGH lol, I wonder if ipsy will keep that up?!
I saw this website called FaceTory and I really wanna order some masks off of there but I’m nervous!

          1. It’s the Petit Vour box!! Lol. I’m also waiting for the Sephora Play. ๐Ÿ˜€ You inspired me to get that one, mostly!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
No no, check out FaceTory. It’s very legit!! I don’t shop on Wish because I’m def sketched out on that one, too, lol. I don’t even do eBay. but my Aunt LOVES Wish, lol. She says their products are good. ๐Ÿ˜›

          2. Ah nice! Another blogger is subscribed to that box but I have never heard of the brands featured there, but I like that they’re all cruelty free! Awh did I really?! ๐Ÿ˜€ I hope you like the bag then, I hope it doesn’t let you down lol

          3. Yeah I don’t mind if I don’t know the brands, I like trying new ones. ๐Ÿ˜€ Especially if they’re cruelty-free!
And I don’t think I’ll be let down! I should be getting them both soon.
I got ripped off the ONE time I used eBay so never again. Tell Alex be careful!

          4. Me too ๐Ÿ™‚ I bet their expensive too which makes me sad because as good as they are I probably can’t afford it lol.
Awesome I cannot wait to see!!
Yeah he’s careful I always pressure him into doing research. A few shady characters but we were able to make it all work =)

    1. Isn’t it? The shade surprisingly suited me. And the answer depends on your likes and dislikes lol. A lot of people like it because it’s one of the cheapest subscriptions out there, the customer service is good, but often people don’t like getting small samples, which, let’s be honest, we get what we pay for. It also depends if you like getting products from indie brands or if you prefer more known brands or higher end brands. Ipsy does feature a ton of indie brands so if discovering new brands aren’t your thing, then I’d skip it and try Sephora Play instead lol. I will be looking back at my bags and the products I received from ipsy at the one year mark to determine whether it’s worth it. โ˜บ
I hope that helps I feel like I just rambled lol.
