I’m always excited to review lipsticks because they’re my favorite makeup product EVER. Lipsticks can make you feel more confident, bold, complete, put-together, (insert your own feeling here), etc., and that’s why I love them.
I was very happy when I heard I got in the Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Voxbox because I hadn’t tried anything from Laura Mercier. So today’s review is their Velour Extreme Matte Lipsticks, which I received complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
Product Description from Sephora:
A seductive, ultra-matte lipstick that delivers intense, single-stroke coverage and long-lasting, creamy comfort.
Modern matte lipstick so seductive in color, touch, and texture, the sensation is irresistible. Mattifying powders and silky conditioners envelop your lips in the softness and comfort of velour, sans drying and cracking. The slim precision bullet allows formula to grab and glide over lips, defining and filling in one seamless stroke, while the built-in shaper customizes tip for precision lining and detailed filling.
Size: 0.035 oz / 1.4 g • Price: $28.00 (full size)
The packaging is black and sleek with gold lettering. It feels sturdy and if you happen to drop it or slip it inside your purse, the cap won’t come off. The shape of the packaging allows it to be portable and travel-friendly. On the bottom, you will find the built-in shaper, in case you need to customize the tip. If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t care for the built-in shaper, and when I did try it, it kind of ruined the bullet tip because it’s so creamy. I can do without shaping it, in my opinion, but it’s handy if you need it.
Formula / Application:
Firstly, for a matte lipstick the formula is CREAMY like you won’t believe. It’s definitely very different from other matte formulas that I’ve tried. It’s highly pigmented so you will get full coverage in one stroke, and the best thing is that you don’t need a lip liner. The bullet allows for precise application, and as I mentioned above, if you need to customize the tip a bit more, you always have the option of using the built-in shaper.
Wear / Longevity:
I was amazed at how creamy, lightweight and comfortable this lipstick was. It doesn’t even feel like I’m wearing it. It was a game-changer for matte formulas because it wasn’t drying, it didn’t feather and/or crack. This lipstick is long-lasting–I wore it from the morning until the evening, roughly 8 hours, and it was still noticeable after hours of wear. I didn’t feel the need to re-apply whenever I drank or ate because my lipstick was still intact. There is some transfer, but after a few hours I didn’t notice it.
Dominate is a blue red and Ruthless is a light pinky nude.
I really liked how Dominate looked on me, and I wish that Ruthless was a bit darker, because unfortunately it was a bit light on me. I can pull off Ruthless only in certain lighting, which is a shame because it’s a gorgeous pink.
Left: Ruthless | Right: Dominate
- Creamy, lightweight and comfortable
- Amazing FULL coverage
- Highly pigmented
- No liner needed
- No dryness
- No feathering / cracking
- NO parabens, sulfates and phthalates
- Built-in shaper — though it didn’t work for me
Overall, this lipstick received full marks from me. It has a lot of good things going for it, and I can see that Laura Mercier products are high quality. I feel as though this lipstick reflects that quality and I would honestly recommend this lipstick line to everyone.
