February 2018 Play! by Sephora Review + Swatches

Heyy dolls!!

I totally meant to post this on Tuesday but I got so busy. I know my schedule is out of whack but we got news that my brother is coming back for good so I’ve been busy cleaning up the house and making sure his room is clutter free. That means this weekend will be a tough one and a busy one for me lol.

Anyway, my posting schedule may be a little erratic until the end of the month, but I got soooo much I want to show you and not enough time to do so, lol. That means I may end up posting twice a day or so. I will do my best to not do it so as to not overwhelm you, but no promises! 😀

I have another post coming to you later this evening and then I will be posting at midnight due to a collab that I’ve been working on 😉

Okay, enough about that. Here’s my Sephora box review, I’m actually keeping most of these reviews pretty brief.

Bag Contents:

sephorafeb2018_contents

  • Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold
  • Sephora Collection Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic
  • NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy * (gave away — not reviewing)
  • Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel
  • Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb
  • Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume * (gave away — not reviewing)

I gave away the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and the Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume because 1) I have too many lipsticks, especially pinks, and 2) I didn’t like the perfume.

Belif
Moisturizing Eye Bomb

sephorafeb2018_belif

Quick Description & Claims:

A lightweight eye cream for a boost of moisture and refreshed-looking eyes.

Whether you’re feeling tired or dehydrated, a few dabs of this botanical-infused formula will revive the area around your eyes for a firmer appearance. It’s also great prep for makeup application.

Mini Product Review:

I did like this eye cream, but because it’s still technically winter and I’ve been suffering from dry skin, this didn’t help at all. It’s not a bad eye cream, but I just don’t think it’s for winter use. I tend to use thicker eye creams around this time of year anyway until it starts getting warmer. That being said, I think I’ll hold off on this until summer?

Cruelty Free? No!

Sephora Collection
Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic

sephorafeb2018_sephora

Quick Description & Claims:

A super-matte yet ultra-conditioning lipstick in a flattering, long-lasting berry shade.

Mini Product Review:

I’m sure you all remember how much I ranted about this in my unboxing. It came slightly smudged and as I turned it upside down, the bullet fell out! ugghh! I meant to contact Sephora about it but I didn’t bother. It’s still usable, so long as I don’t turn it upside down.

Anyway, aside from being damaged, I thought the shade was nice. I actually have a few shades that come pretty close to this one (you’ll see in the swatches below), so it’s not that big of a deal. Even though this one is matte, it feels creamy when applied. This shade is apparently flattering on every skin tone so that’s nice. It’s also kind of long-lasting and moisturizing to an extent.

Cruelty Free? No!

Peter Thomas Roth
FIRMx Peeling Gel

sephorafeb2018_peterthomas

Quick Description & Claims:

An exfoliating gel powered by multiple fruit enzymes to reveal a glowy complexion.

One use of this resurfacing peel and you won’t be able to stop touching your face. Pineapple and pomegranate enzymes help clear clogged pores and remove dead skin cells for your softest skin ever.

Mini Product Review:

I have an even more expensive version of this peeling gel that I absolutely love. I have been wanting to find another one like it and I was excited when I confirmed that this was it!

It visibly lifts all the dead skin when you massage it onto your skin and I absolutely love it, as gross as it may sound. I find it really satisfying and affirming that my skin is indeed getting cleaned down to the pore.

BUT, this isn’t CF and the full size is crazy expensive. I will be looking into cheaper options if there’s anything out there.

Cruelty Free? No.

Laura Mercier
Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold

sephorafeb2018_lauramercier

Quick Description & Claims:

A long-lasting creamy eyeshadow stick in a shimmering pink champagne shade that delivers a subtle sweep of color.

This easy-to-use eyeshadow stick is perfect for highlighting the corners of your eyes and along your browbones, or adding a hint of color to your lids–just enough to make your eyes sparkle.

Mini Product Review:

I received a matte eye stick in my December box, same brand, and this one shimmery. I don’t normally use eye sticks even though they’re easy to use but at least the shade of this one is quite pretty so I’ll be giving a shot in a few looks in the future. I may also end up using it with the matte eye stick and hopefully they look good together.

I also love that this one is long-lasting and it also can be used on the inner corner and brow bone. So if I don’t like it as much as an eyeshadow stick, I’ll be using it to highlight.

Cruelty Free? Yes, but it’s kind of a grey area.

NO MOTD Today, Sorry!

PRODUCT SWATCHES

First photo is swatches of this month’s products (minus the NARS lippie because I didn’t keep it). Bottom photo includes swatches of shades I have that resemble Rebel Chic.

  1. Oh my gosh! Yay! Your brother is coming back?! You must be so excited!
Oh wow, your lipstick was super messed up. At least you were able to still use it!

    1. Yeah, I’m happy to have him back, hopefully he’s not as stressed as he was in Utah. And yesterday was an ALL DAY road trip for me LOL
Yeah, but I’m glad I had a few other lipsticks that come close so it’s fine to toss it 🙂
