March 2018 Ipsy Glam Bag Review + Swatches

Hello again!

I’m trying to get back into the swing of things and working on posts to schedule in advance because I’m a little behind due to taking a much needed vacation. We had loads of fun and I cannot wait to tell you guys all about it.

But today, I have my March Ipsy Glam Bag review!

NIP+FAB
Glycolic Scrub Fix

Quick Description & Claims:

  • It’s got multiple benefits—it refines, restores, and brightens your skin each time you use it.
  • Hello, baby-smooth skin. Glycolic acid gently exfoliates and improves your skin’s texture, while salicylic acid helps clean your pores and reduce blemishes.
  • We use it and—zing! It’s got this yummy, grapefruit scent that gives an instant awake feeling, and makes skin feel so fresh.

Mini Product Review:

I LOVED THIS PRODUCT! So so much! The glycolic acid made my skin super smooth and that lasted literally for days! I don’t think I have to use this stuff more than once a week. It’s amazing! It also has a very nice grapefruit scent that I love and it’s really subtle.

I do believe that the salicylic acid has helped with blemishes and breakouts because my skin has been pretty clear recently *knocks on wood* and I have been using it twice a week (even though I don’t need to). I will definitely keep using it and will consider purchasing the full size when I run out.

Cruelty Free? Yes, and vegan (except for a few products)

GoldFaden MD
Facial Detox Mask

ipsymar2018_goldfaden

Quick Description & Claims:

  • Feeling clogged in the facial department? Time for a detox. This purifying mask pulls out dirt and debris from way deep down, making your skin look glowy and brand new.
  • It’s infused with a soothing blend of zinc oxide, sulfur, and camphor to cleanse and minimize the appearance of pores without over-drying your skin.
  • Like to plan ahead? This mask also works to prevent future breakouts, so we love using it when an event is coming up.

Mini Product Review:

I thought this mask was good but I’m not a fan of the scent. It smells…like medication. I didn’t mind using this as an all-over mask but I think I might like it better if used as a spot treatment. The times I used it, it helped with my blemishes and they pretty much disappeared within days and it seems as though it has prevented some breakouts as well.

I will be using it a spot treatment and also as a preventative product to really test it out.

Cruelty Free? Yes, according to their site.

City Color Cosmetics
Glow Duo

ipsymar2018_citycolor

Quick Description & Claims:

  • It’s great when you need to glow up on the go. One pan holds a creamy highlighter, and the other a powder highlighter. You can use them alone or together for an even more intense result.
  • The shimmer on these guys = whoa. And they’re very pigmented, so a little goes a long way.
  • The formulas are smooth and blendable, so they don’t look cakey when you layer them on.

Mini Product Review:

I wasn’t going to try this product, but the cream highlighter intrigued me a bit. I do think that they’re pigmented when swatched, but I didn’t feel that way about the cream highlighter when I applied it, which was a little disappointing. I had to keep layering the cream highlighter for it to show as intensely as the powder. BUT, I think it’s a good one for a subtle glow and/or for everyday looks.

The powder was more pigmented than the cream highlighter, in my opinion. But the powder is a bit too dark for my skin tone, I can’t really pull it off without foundation because it just looks like I put bronzer in place of my highlighter. I also feel like this powder highlight works on me ONLY on top of foundation AND under warm lighting.

I don’t exactly know what I will be doing with this duo, I thought I’d like it a bit more, but unfortunately these just aren’t shades that I can wear daily. Maybe I’ll try the powder highlight during the summer when I’m more tanned.

What I liked about this duo is that they can be layered (which looks better) and also they’re pretty blendable, but other thant that, I wish they had different shades (they don’t).

Cruelty Free? Yes! Certified by PETA

Tarte Cosmetics
Sex Kitten Eyeliner

ipsymar2018_tarte

Quick Description & Claims:

  • This inky black, creamy pencil is our go-to for tightlining, feline flicks, and more.
  •  It’s totally waterproof, so you can have an lol-fest without smudging your eye look.
  • It glides on ever-so smoothly and effortlessly with no tugging or pulling. Pinky swear.

Mini Product Review:

I wasn’t going to use this product either but I can’t say no to tarte products. It’s a brand  I’ve been wanting to try for such a long time but can’t afford.

This eyeliner is so creamy and I think it’s perfect for tightlining (which I do often). I haven’t tried to see if it’s truly waterproof, mainly because I don’t care either way but I love that it doesn’t tug on the skin when it’s being applied.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

Contour Cosmetics
Lip Kit Pencil in Stud

ipsymar2018_contourcosmetics

Quick Description & Claims:

  • This creamy pencil is very pigmented, and glides on easily.
  • You can use it as a regular lipliner, or to contour and make your lips look full, and pouty.
  • Stud is a pretty, brownish mauve color that’s just the right amount of glam.

Mini Product Review:

This lip liner was my least liked product in this bag. It wasn’t as creamy as they claim. At least mine didn’t glide as easily. It pulled a lot and I had to apply pressure for the lip liner to show. I just found it really hard to apply.

I got the shade Stud which is a brownish mauve color. I would have liked to receive Juju because I have a few peachy shades that could use a companion lip liner but oh well.

Overall, didn’t like it much. It was not easy getting it off with a regular wipe which was such an nightmare.

Cruelty Free? Yes, according to their site.

PRODUCT SWATCHES

If my research is correct, then all these products are cruelty free and that makes me really happy! I didn’t love every single product but I’m glad to have tried them all, especially the NIP + FAB Glycolic scrub.

    1. Even those tend to be pretty good masks but it’s really nice to get the small bottled samples every once in a while because it lasts longer, and even better if you like them 😁

  1. I tried wearing the powder highlighter as a bronzer for a few days, but it’s too orange for that on my skin. Bummer.

And I had already forgotten about the lipliner! It crumbled when I tried to use it.

    1. I think on me it has more of a coppery undertone, but I don’t think I can use it as bronzer because it’s just way too shimmery lol.

I had high hopes for the lip liner but it’s just not creamy at all, it tugged so badly and it was painful to take off.

  2. I might try the Nip+Fab scrub. I was already planning on getting a new face scrub and some serum that is supposed to brighten your face, and it sounds like the Nip+Fab does both!! Glad to hear you liked it

    1. I haven’t checked to see how expensive it is yet, but I’m hoping it’s not too bad because I would love to buy the full size when I run out. And if you do end up trying it too, I hope you like.

  3. I’ve been using that grapefruit scrub prob more than twice a week now and my face feels SO smooth & I def have been seeing my pores get smaller. I love it, too. 😀 & the scent!! Isn’t it just the best?! That’s weird that there aren’t other shades for the highlighter duo. Sorry that didn’t work out for you! 😦 The swatch of it does really dark. That lip liner looks super dry, blah! Lol but yay to an all cruelty-free bag!

    1. I know right? I’m afraid to use it all up because I don’t wanna look at the price tag for the full size 🙈 lmao
Yeah hated the lip liner and idk what I’ll do with the highlighter duo….*sigh*

      1. The full-size price isn’t bad at all!! It’s like $13 & wow, my face just keeps looking better & better. I’d buy a full-size but then my sub boxes always send me something better!! It sucks when the products don’t work out. It feels like a waste to just throw them in the trash but makes too much clutter if you keep it all!

        1. OMG! SERIOUSLY?!! $13? I’m gonna have to go check it out on Ulta, brb XD
True true. That’s why I love these boxes, you discover great new products you’d never thought you’d buy yourself. 🙂
Yeah I understand, and I’m all for de-cluttering so believe me, if something doesn’t work out, it goes in the trash too, but it’s very rare.

          1. Do they have it at Ulta?! I went on their website and the price was in pounds and I converted it to dollars in US hahha. Now I went to the website and see they have a US website too hahaha… it’s only $9.95 on there but it’s sold out!!
It’s so hard for me to throw the stuff in the trash! I just store stuff away where I can’t see it lol.

          2. They sell a few bath & body products from the brand but not this exfoliant 😦 it seems they have it on Target, but it might only be online 😦 I will have to go to the store and see if they carry the brand.
