April 2018 Boxycharm Review

Hii!

Good morning and happy Friday!

My little one was up most of the night not feeling well and unable to keep water down, so I’m on mommy duty for the rest of the day and will do my best to read your blogs and work on my blog posts for the next week.

Today I just have my April Boxycharm review. I cannot wait to receive this month’s box, I have no idea what they’re going to be sending me. šŸ™‚

Dr. Brandt
Pores No More Vaccum Cleaner

boxycharmapril2018_drbrandt

Quick Description & Claims:

This award-winning, pore refining mask is an extraction specialist — unclogging and tightening the look of pores and reducing excess oil from the skin’s surface.

Mini Product Review:

I have mixed feelings about this product and I had to look on Sephora’s site to find out more about this product.

Some key ingredients:

  • Salicylic Acid: Helps soak up oil and loosen dirt and impurities.
  • Glycolic Acid: Exfoliates away dirt and dead skin cells.
  • Botanical Extracts from Iris and Eijisu Rose: Help pores look smaller.
  • Combination of Oleanolic Acid and an African Tree Extract: Reduce shine.

The scent was different. I couldn’t figure out what it was, maybe a mix of the botanical and African tree extracts. It wasn’t bothersome, but I’m also not sure if I liked it as much?

I did like that it had blue and white beads that dissolve as you’re massaging the mask into your skin, it turns into this grey-ish blue mask. The mask has a very nice cooling sensation that lasts for a while, even after you rinse off the mask.

I’m still not sure how this mask works. I don’t know if it truly unclogged my pores or not, I didn’t really feel my skin tightening either, and when I washed the mask off, my skin didn’t feel soft or smooth. In fact, it almost felt like maybe my skin was getting stripped of oils, which is nice if you have oily skin, but I mostly have normal/combo skin.

It’s really hard for me to tell whether this mask is working or not, and that’s why I’m not sure if I like it. I don’t think I could spend $47 on a mask I’m not sure even works..

Cruelty Free? No, they sell in China.

The Brow Gal
The Instatint: Tinted Eyebrow Gel

boxycharmapril2018_thebrowgal

Quick Description & Claims:

Tinted eyebrow gel with microfibers to achieve a natural hair look. Perfect for the customer who wants a quick, but natural fill to their brows.

Mini Product Review:

When I swatched it, it looked very light, but it surprisingly ended up oxidizing a bit into a slightly darker shade that matched my brows almost perfectly. I do feel like this specific shade (Light Hair 03) has an ashy/grey undertone that probably wouldn’t look good on me, on its own.

I use my go-to IT Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil, but that one has the tendency to look a little orange every once in a while, so this tinted eyebrow gel is the perfect product to pair with my eyebrow pencil to cancel out those orange tones.

Anyway, the wand/spoolie is small enough to brush all my eyebrow hairs into place and it’s perfect to fill in the areas my eyebrow pencil couldn’t fill in.

Cruelty Free? Unknown, could not find its status anywhere.

Jelly Pong Pong
All Over Glow

boxycharmapril2018_jellypongpong

Quick Description & Claims:

An oil-free lightweight luminizing gel, enriched with micronized pearlescent pigments and jasmine extract to highlight the face for a fresh, radiant complexion. Dab onto cheekbones and brow bones with your ring finger and blend our with a brush.

Mini Product Review:

I wasn’t sure if this luminizer gel would look good on my skin tone because it looked pinky, but when a blended out a small amount, it did make my skin look pretty radiant and very glowy.

It’s a gorgeous highlight and the micro pearlescent pigments catch the light so well! The only thing I have to say about this product is that it isn’t buildable. At least not for my skin tone because I have yellow undertones. When I add more product onto my cheeks, you can see this dark pinky stripe/shadow when I turn away from the light, and that does NOT look cute.

The only way this luminzer gel works for me is by applying a small amount and blending it out with a beauty blender and adding a layer of powder highlight on top of it to make it pop more.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

MAC Cosmetics
Liptensity Lipstick in Doe

boxycharmapril2018_mac

Quick Description & Claims:

A brilliant formula that pushes the boundaries of colour. Each lipstick holds intense amount of pigment, resulting in extreme colour intesnsity, clarity and vibrancy. This luxurious gelled base melts on contact, providing fully saturated colour with a satin finish in one stroke.

Mini Product Review:

I mentioned this in my video and in my unboxing post that this was my very first MAC lipstick. I don’t gravitate towards this brand because they’re not CF and their lipsticks are out of my price-range anyway. BUT, if you don’t care about CF status, then get yourself a lipstick from this line because the formula is pretty amazing.

The shade I received was Doe and I believe it was the lightest out of the three Boxycharm was offering last month. This shade is probably my perfect nude, it doesn’t even look like I’m wearing any lipstick. I love those “your lips but better” shades and even more when the formula is pigmented in one stroke and creamy as a dream!

I was very impressed with the formula and the pigment, it’s too bad they sell in China otherwise I would probably throw my money at them to get a few more shades.

Cruelty Free? No, they sell in China.

  1. Hope Cielo is feeling better. Disappointing to hear that Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vaccum Cleaner is not that great. The company usually has some stellar products. I am obsessed with Liptensity from MAC. The lipsticks šŸ’„ lasts for hours. Have a wonderful weekend! šŸ’‹šŸŒ·

    1. He’s still not feeling too well. Hopefully he doesn’t worsen overnight.
And this particular product didn’t work for me. Or at least I couldn’t tell if it was working lol.
Yeah I noticed they do, I was blown away that I still had the lipstick on after my meals šŸ˜Š
      Thanks doll, you too!!! šŸ’œšŸ’œ

  2. I really like the brow gel, I’ve been using it pretty frequently! I love the color of the MAC lipstick, I really want to try out that formula.

        1. Well there’s definitely a lot more that are CF in the US but because they sell in China it’s like, so not here but over there it’s okay? But yeah, I agree.. we should be moving towards better things.

          1. It’s tough, especially if you have a lot of HG products that are not cruelty free because it’s hard to find good replacements. For me it was a lot easier because I was already buying elf, nyx, WnW and essence. Lol. The skincare products are the toughest for me šŸ˜§

  3. Oh no. I hope Ciel gets well soon! ā™” that lipstick sounds amazing. I love MAC lipsticks but haven’t used it in such a long time after the whole fiasco about them conducting super cruel animal testing. Now I’m having a hard time decided if I should blame the company for selling to China when China’s government is the one who is doing the testing and I don’t live in China so…

    1. It took him a while to get better but he’s doing great now, thank you! šŸ˜Š
So the reason a lot of people don’t consider MAC CF (even though they are) is because they KNOW that China conducts animal testing for all the cosmetics that will be sold there. So they’re knowingly doing that when they can just not sell in China and become a fully CF brand…now, there’s also the fact that brands like NYX are owned by L’OrĆ©al which isn’t CF and some people don’t consider them CF, but I mean let’s be real, if we only bought CF companies that haven’t been bought out, we’d have little to not brands left to buy from lol. But I believe that even if say, NYX, is owned by L’Oreal, the more you buy from NYX and not L’Oreal makeup (or skincare, whatever they sell), the more you vote with your money about wanting more CF brands. Does that make sense? But it can get tricky sometimes when brands such as MAC have statements such as “we do not test on animals except where it required by law, it’s like “we don’t test on animals here in the US, but we do in China”. And that’s why it’s a problem for people, their money still going towards cruelty.
And omg sorry I just gave you this long ass fucking reply lol

      1. Yay! Glad to hear he’s better now. šŸ™‚ GOSH so much to know about CF products. It’s hard, I don’t wanna support animal cruelty but it’s almost impossible to avoid!
