Mixing All My Powder Highlighters

It’s almost the end of the week!! 😀

I thought I had until Friday to post this but I didn’t so I hustled to get this done! As always, sorry it’s so late. There a lot of distractions today..

Anyway, last week I published Mixing All My Liquid & Cream Highlighters!, and today I will be showing you part numero dos! Mixing all my powder highlighters!!!

Disclosure: Credit for this idea goes to Safiya Nygaard, who I believe started this “Mixing My Makeup” trend. Correct me if I’m wrong please! 🙂

Watch me mix my highlighters, swatching it and trying it on:

Results + First Impressions

I’m not surprised this one turned out pink too because most of the highlighters I own have pink undertones.. The one thing I did like about this highlighter was how golden it looked when the light hit it just right.

I’ll be short, sweet and to the point. I didn’t like it! I don’t want to say this was a waste of time because the first one was kind of a success, but this one was a huge PASS!

It only looks good when the light hits it just fine, but otherwise it just looks like blush looking straight on..

MOTDs + Swatches

I did what I could to show you different angles of the pan and me wearing it so you could see what I mean.

Note: All of these swatches + MOTDs are under natural lighting, artificial (cool fluorescent), and warm.

Warm:

Let’s start with the easy one. This one is very straight forward. Under warm lighting you are able to see all the golden undertones and very little of the pink undertone. The swatch almost looks like a rose gold highlight, so under warm lighting, yes this highlighter would look good.

Natural:

Below you’ll see that in natural lighting it looks golden. But if I slightly tilt the pan, the pink undertones are FAR more visible. And the swatch is a good representation of how it actually looks on the face.

I tried to take photos from different angles so you could see how it looks on my face. From a side angle it looks gorgeous but looking straight ahead, you can almost see the pink stripe at the highest point of my cheekbone.

Looking straight-on, you can’t even tell I’m wearing highlighter. The pink shadow ruins it for me.

Cool Fluorescent:

The same thing happened when I photographed the pan under artificial lighting. I had to tilt the pan just a bit so the light didn’t directly hit it, so you can see the pinkish tones.

Same with the swatches. Turned slightly away from the light, it just looks VERY pink.

And lastly, how it looks on the face:

You can kind of see on the photo on the right how it blends into my blush. You don’t see a highlight there..

The result was very… underwhelming.. disappointing.. But I will be trying this experiment again without pink undertoned highlighters in hopes that I can create a better one that will suit my skin tone better. But yeah, what did you think?!

Have you guys done this challenge yet? If not, would you??
Also, which shade of highlighter suits you best?

    1. Thank you! A lot of these highlighters are super gorgeous!! Haha yeah little science experiment 😁
And thank you! I think the undertones depend on skin tone, they don’t all look good.
