Influenster — NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Concealer Review

Happy Friday!

Today I have a review for you!

I’m trying to get back into the review game for you guys because I feel like I haven’t done them in a while. Truthfully, I’m just so overwhelmed with all the products I have yet to review so I’ll start slow and prioritize.

Today’s review is the new-new Can’t Stop Won’t Stop concealer from NYX Cosmetics. NYX is one of my favorite drugstore brands—that should come as no shock because I can’t seem to shut up about them—so I was stoked to have gotten this in my mail box. I use their HD Photogenic concealer almost religiously and had no clue that they had a new one, until now.

Disclosure: I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Packaging / Size / Price

First things first: size and price. I own three of their HD photogenic concealers and those go for $6 for the SAME amount of product as these. But these are $2 more? Why? Besides looking like an upgrade of the HD concealer, I was baffled that it’s a bit more on the expensive side for their concealers. All their concealers are $6 or less, with the exception of their concealing palettes.

The packaging looks exactly the same as the HD Photogenic concealer and is slightly taller, enough to notice but not much bigger. Visually, this one is much more appealing than the HD concealer, but is it better or worse?

Formula & Application

Compared to the HD concealer, this one is a matte formula and it is also a muti-tasker. You can use it to conceal imperfections, brighten up your face, or to contour. Since I only have this one shade, I can only conceal my blemishes with it.

This one is apparently full coverage, I’ll be sure to compare it to the HD concealer in just a bit for you (since that’s all I can truly compare it to). The shade I received was Soft Beige, which is a medium light with cool undertones. I have warm undertones but it seemed to be okay for my skin tone.

The biggest problem I have with the HD photogenic concealer is that they tend to oxidize so I started trying to get a shade or two lighter. I was hoping that this one was better in that aspect.

Swatches

I was trying to take a photo to show the oxidation, but it was kind of hard. The left swatch was the first one, and the right was second.

It’s hard to tell, but there’s little to no oxidation from this concealer, which pleased me immensely. That means that the shades will stay pretty close to the shade they’re supposed to be.

Comparison

Here are some comparison photos with the HD concealer so you can see the packaging differences as well as the swatches themselves.

The HD concealer is light to medium coverage and this one claims to be full coverage, so I tested this out on my face on the same side, so you could judge for yourself.

I don’t know about you, but to me there was literally no difference in coverage. The most notable thing about the CSWS, is that it’s matte. I’ve come to find that matte formulas just don’t look good on my skin, especially when I’m trying to cover blemishes with them. This one wasn’t bad, and it would be covered by my foundation, but it’s not something I can use on it’s own the way I use the HD photogenic concealer from time to time.

Pros & Cons:

Pros:

  • Medium to full coverage
  • Little to no oxidation
  • Multi-tasker
  • Matte formula (for those with oily skin)
  • Cruelty free brand

Cons:

  • Same amount of product as HD concealer but costs a bit more
  • Matte formula (for those with dry skin)
  • No big difference from HD photogenic concealer — roughly same coverage

It’s not a bad product at all. The formula seems a bit better in that it’s creamier but it is also matte so that’s another thing to consider. I’m not sure the price can be completely justified as I get the same results with their HD photogenic concealer. I also don’t agree entirely that it’s full coverage because it didn’t cover my blemishes completely, but it does give medium to full coverage depending on how much you use.

Again, not a bad product. It’s good on its own and I think people with oily skin might benefit from this one due to the matte formula, but if you have normal/dry/combo skin, I do recommend their HD photogenic concealer wand because you’d get roughly the same results for a slightly cheaper price.

Who else has tried this? If not, would you pick it up?

  1. Lovely review! I actually don’t like the HD concealer just because it doesn’t cover enough for me and like you said, it oxidizes. I don’t think I’ll buy this one as well because I don’t like the matte finish. It’s sad cause I wanted it to try it :p

    1. I noticed its hard to find a full coverage drugstore concealer, there might be a few but I need to make sure they’re CF lol. But yeah, that’s the only thing I don’t like about the HD concealer so I need to find another one. This comes as a close second, but I need to see what else is out there. If you find one that’s good let me know! Next one will be the MUR concealer.

        1. I think Ulta carries them, but maybe not in-store. I’ll have to look elsewhere. 🙂 Thanks for suggesting it! 🙂 I looked into them are they’re CF so that makes me happy! ❤ Have a great day!

  2. I do find it interesting that this one has the same amount of product and yet it’s $2 more. Still, you’re right, the matte formula would probably be best for people with oily skin, like me! I’ve been looking for a good concealer, so I might just have to pick this one up. I think it’s still a good price overall. Thanks for sharing, Rossy!! ❤

    1. Right? Isn’t it weird? It’s the same brand! I’d understand if it was a different brand lol.
I hope you like it and I hope it works for you if you end up getting it. You’ll have to let me know how it worked out for you! 🙂

  3. I love NYX but I’m not a fan of their concealers for the reason you mentioned— none are full coverage!! It irks me bc I wanna love them as much as I love all their other products, but the concealers just ain’t it 😕

        1. I will be looking for reviews on their foundation before I purchase it. I cant trust those beauty gurus so hype it up when they get it for free lol.
And yes! I always go back to NYX for lipsticks!! They’re the best!

  4. Aw I know how much you love NYX so that’s really cool you were able to try this new concealer for free! Such a shame that they decided to tack on a few bucks, especially since there’s not much difference. It seems they only improved on the oxidation part!

    Great review, Rossy!!

    1. Yeah it was pretty neat! I was kind of surprised honestly that I got this box. I feel like I have taken many surveys and I haven’t gotten anything else until now LOL.
I was just replying to another blogger, I was telling her that their concealers need more work for sure. It’s great that they improved the oxidation of the product, but one needs to consider the matte formula, which a lot of people don’t seem to go for. Unless they have oily skin, might work better for them. I’m still in search for another concealer, the HD concealer does the job for now, but I want something better lol.

      1. I am always surprised when they pick me for a box, too… like huh?? It’s always out of nowhere lol.

Yeah actually for me the HD concealer was very drying so I bet this one would be even worse. I think I’ll have to stay away from it. 😛 I hope you can find something you like better!

  5. I was looking at this concealer this morning at the drugstore, ha! I nearly bought it, but decided to wait until I read some reviews. Because it is matte, I probably won’t end up getting it.
I do like the HD concealer – it is my usual go-to concealer.

    1. Haha nice! Yeah that’s the only thing that turned me off, its matte. And I like the HD concealer too but I’m getting over having to guess my right shade, I can never get it right so I have to buy two and mix them and that comes close, sort of. If you know of other concealers that are great, not matte, and don’t oxidize, let me know!

    1. Really? Isn’t it good and also very inexpensive one of the reasons I keep repurchasing. I just dislike that it oxidizes. I can never quite get close to my shade without needing to mix two shades lol.
I’m glad you like it though!

      1. I probably didn’t notice the oxidisation because it first applies a tiny bit lighter and then just adjusts to my perfect shade… LOL! I’ve also known darker toned people to prefer it so perhaps that’s clue too?
