The Holidays Recap and Foodie Outings — Part 1

Heyy my dolls!

I feel like I haven’t done a life update in a very long time! I meant to do a few in December, but as I keep mentioning, everything fell through. I’m sure you guys are wondering why I’m even talking about the holidays when they’re long long gone, and February is right around the corner.

Well, some of you wanted some sort of life update, because I have been gone, especially over the holidays. I decided to take some time off from blogging and spend it with my family. I did take some photos along the way so I’ll be sharing with you what I’ve been up to ever since.

Soo… the holidays!

I already wrote about Thanksgiving in my WUW in November, if you’re wanting to go that far back (you don’t have to), but that was my last update until now. I covered October and November on that one, so I will be covering December to present here.

December 2018

We’re gonna go way back to the 9th, which was a day after CL’s fantastic birthday and party! Since it was still his bday weekend, we decided to hop on the Holiday Express Train because he just loves trains..

The ride was literally just back and forth. It was a bit boring to be honest, but a good family experience nonetheless. I think CL prefers seeing them from the outside anyway.

Foodie Outing #1: PHO THAP BA

December 13th

Pho for the first time! Yasss!!

I had been craving ramen so much that I decided it was time for a change and that was the start of our foodie outings lol. I think I got Pho Ga, which is a chicken noodle soup, and it was amazing and delicious! Better than I thought it would be, it has such a unique flavor.

That weekend was also Alex’s birthday, and I wrapped his gifts the night before. He already knew what he was getting, The Strain TV Show (complete series) and “The Master” Funko POP.

I also got him a lemon cake, made by my wonderful godmother:

IT’S MY CAR! Of course it doesn’t make sense because it’s actually mine, but he’s been driving it far more than I am able to.. Thought it would be cute.

That night I worked on all the postcards I was going to be sending out to some friends, both in the states and internationally to the UK. I decided to send postcards from my state, Oregon, because they can be displayed LOL.

Fast forward, one week later to December 21st.

Foodie Outing #2: Stepping Stone

Ah yes, another place I can officially say I’ve gone to!

We had tried before but the line was much too long, and CL couldn’t bear waiting that long in the cold. This time we waited about 10 mins and thought it was worth a shot. And then we got seated!!

It’s small but this place was amazing! I got french toast and I also tried their coffee. Oh. My. GOSH! It was the BEST coffee and french toast I have ever had! Alex agreed about the coffee too, and that was when we also started looking into coffee..

We don’t drink it everyday but it’s gotten to the point where I’m willing to search for cafes than go to Starbucks. It just doesn’t compare anymore, sorry! LOL.

Big Als:

Right after Stepping Stone we went to Big Al’s for some family fun, and we discovered that we had $150 credits on our play card!! Whaaaaa?!! Last time we went we only had about $70 from all the free cards we got for Alex’s company picnic.

We have no idea where that extra $80 came from but we sure enjoyed our time there! Bowling and arcade with my boys was fun and it is also something I used to do as a kid. #makingmemories

Dog-Sitting & Chicken Carbonara:

December 22nd

My neighbors went away for a week to Cali to visit family, so I dog-sat their doggos.

I also made chicken carbonara for my first time ever but I might have chosen the wrong noodles because they sucked up all the sauce. It was still really good, I’m itching to make it again.

GingerBread Houses with Family:

December, 23rd

My cousin invited us to his house and my cousins and their kids were already there. It was a last minute thing and it was really fun! It is always a good time with them and it was nice bringing all the kiddos together.

Xmas & Alex’s Sushi:

Can’t live without it! He made it for both xmas and NYE!

I got bored by the red and gold colors that I just needed to change up the tree this year. I went with a blue and silver palette and the tree looked amazing. I haven’t had this much fun decorating the tree in years!

I unfortunately didn’t get any photos of CL opening his presents, I was filming vids but they don’t even look good, lol. He got loads of things. I got some cookware and a Calvin Klein coat from my dad. Alex got me the JSC Mystery Box  and a better phone because mine was crappy. I didn’t really ask for anything this year since I had already spent a fortune in October.

Foodie Outing #3: Yataimura Maru

December 28th

Surprise, surprise. We eat at Maru all the damn time, lol. Fave Japanese restaurant and their Tokyo Ramen is the best! I had some green tea that time, it was so so good!

On the same day we stopped by Krispy Kreme to get some donuts:

They had some cinnamon ones, which were good but too sweet for me.

Foodie Outing #4: Pielogy Pizza

December 29th

Yes, we were eating out a lot in December. And I know you’re thinking “that’s a lot of money spent on food”, you just wait, you don’t even know what’s coming next, LOL. I am just getting started!!

Anyway, been here before. Mackenzie actually urged me to go last year and I love it! I get this Margherita pizza all the time and it never fails to amaze me. The taste is just perfect.

NYE, December 31st:

We got a pinata, ate sushi that Alex made (again), I drank so much alcohol, and we made a huge mess! LOL

Shortly after xmas I received xmas cards from my lovely friends, Hunida and Sarah.

Hunida sent me this:

She’s so sweet!

Sarah sent me a card too and a little festive collar for Sophie which I thought was adorable! It did come a little bit after xmas but she was still able to wear it for NYE! 🙂

And you know what? This is a good place to stop. I have to split this post into two or three parts, I promise you there’s lots of good stuff food in my next post!

I know it’s no longer the holidays, but how was everyone’s xmas and NYE?
Did you go somewhere or stay home? What have you been up to ever since?

Joshua & I love trains too so I can relate with Ciel’s excitement, lol! We went on a Polar Express trip like that two years ago and it was pretty fun but a little bit boring too. 😉
Yayyy for trying Pho for the first time!! I still haven’t tried it, but I’m dying to. Everyone makes it look so good! I guess I’m concerned about not liking it, but I seriously doubt that’s going to be the case. Yours looked amazing!
That car cake for Alex is too cute! Really that’s so creative. Your godmother did an incredible job!
I love the the coffee tasted so great at the Stepping Stones diner!! Whenever I’ve tried coffee at diners, it’s always been crappy cheap Folgers. I didn’t know you could have good coffee at diners, actually!
Love, love, love the blue & silver palette on the tree!! We aren’t big fans of red & gold currently either so we went for a more silvery theme too. I love how it creates like a “frosted winter” look.
Oooh Krispy Kreme is so good!! We don’t have one here so we rarely get their donuts. I’ve never seen those cinnamon ones before, but I think they’d probably be too sweet for me as well. I just love their original glazed lol.
What a great recap, Rossy!! Thanks for sharing. ❤ Also the doggo pics are just adorable!

I strangely feel like we haven’t talked much since the year started? LOL Maybe it’s just me, but I’m loving these long comments 😀 LOL keep them coming! ❤
We actually have the Mt. Hood Express but the tickets are insanely expensive and I can't dish out that kind of money out of nowhere, it would have been the same as this though, so maybe CL wouldn't have cared LOL.
Pho is really good! Have you ever had ramen? It's more or less like that, the broth is different but also very flavorful. The place we went to had vegetarian and beef pho as well so you also have choices 🙂
I sent my godmother a photo and she just translated it onto the cake, I loved it! I could never have done that!
Stepping Stone is a cafe, we have a bunch of those here, I don't think I have ever been to an actual diner but I can imagine them giving them cheap stuff LOL. I think that's why I've never liked coffee cause it's always been the cheap one? I'm glad to be branching out lol.
Ahh yay! Glad I'm not the only going going for something different, gold and red is very classic but I'm bored of it! Give me something new and exciting! But yes, I love that the silver gives it that wintery feel as you mentioned! Only reason I chose those colors 😀
OMG that sucks that you guys don't have one there! But yea, the original ones are amazing all the time!
      Thanks for reading! 🙂 ❤

Agreed!! I do feel like there’s been a bit of a disconnect with a lot of bloggers since the New Year. I think we are probably playing catch-up with a lot of different things lol.
I’m so glad you love the long comments haha! Sometimes I feel like I’m being annoying so that’s great to hear. ❤
Whoa the Mt. Hood Express sounds awesome!! But I totally get that about the tickets. I looked into ticket prices for the Polar Express here and it was like $150 for two people, hahaha nope. At his age, I doubt Ciel would have noticed a difference!
I finally tried ramen for the first time a few months ago and loved it!! That's good to hear that pho is similar, because then I bet I'll love it as well. Ooh it's great to know there are options for meat/meatless and that the broth is so flavorful! Nothing is worse than a bland broth with that type of dish lol.
She really did so well on the cake, it's amazing and super cute!
Ohhh I totally forgot about cafes for some reason lol! All I could think of was restaurants and diners. XD It makes sense that a cafe would have higher quality coffee lol. I could see why only experiencing the cheap stuff would put you off coffee! I'm def a coffee snob, gotta have the good stuff. 😉 Have you had French press coffee? It's divine!
Exactly!! Wintery themes are definitely our favorites for sure. It's so pretty!
I know!! We made sure to grab some donuts when we were down in Phoenix in November because otherwise we never get them lol. It's very sad but I suppose good for our bank account and waists. 😉

I know I am! I keep falling behind with reading and I’m trying to juggle my personal life right now so blogging is taking a bit of a back seat lol.
Lol yeah! You know me, I like to write long comments too. I think maybe the reason I like the long comments is because it shows that people truly read your content lol. Rather than the occasional “great post!” Which is fine but still lol. I’d like to know which part was great haha
Yeah as I said there’s a difference in flavor, each one is unique, but you might like it too. At least I hope you do 😁
Yeah!! Exactly!! We have had 711 coffee up until then and it was a HUGE step up lol. And no I haven’t had French press coffee but I believe Mackenzie might have mentioned it to me. She told me go get a French press for a different drink that she makes
Ah no kidding!! I haven’t been eating well and barely exercising. I didn’t know the beginning of the year would make me feel so stressed.

January has been so busy! I’m excited that it’s almost over because it has been a stressful one. I think a lot of people feel that way because there’s a lot of expectations for starting out the New Year right after the holidays. Everyone goes back to work and school and it’s just a lot!
Oh my gosh yesss I feel the same way about the “great post” comments. Like, those are nice, but I feel like they are more for trying to get me to look at their blog rather than really commenting on my content. 😉 I completely agree about the long comments!!
I’ve never had 7/11 coffee but I can imagine it wouldn’t be as good, lol! YES definitely try French press sometime. It’s easy enough to make and it’s tastes so good. It keeps so much of the flavor in the coffee. I don’t know if you’ve ever had percolated coffee over a campfire, but that’s what it reminds me of. Bold and with such rich tones.
I get it! I’m kind of on the opposite extreme where we’ve been working out super consistently and I feel a little burned out. Not too sore or injured or anything, just tired of keeping up with it all. But it’s been good because we’ve gotten stronger and lost weight so it FEELS good, lol. I guess I just want a break. >.< January is hard lol.

That’s true. That must be it.
Oh totally! They really are. Half of the ones I get are always leaving their blog url lol.
It’s good, but not that good lol. You can find better coffee elsewhere.
No as I said, I’m not really a coffee drinker, so I haven’t tried anything fancy just yet lol.
I’m still sleeping quite late though it’s a step up. I managed to get into bed at 1am last night so progress! Haha. Even though it doesn’t seem like it. I will have to adopt alex’s schedule.

Eeek! So excited to read this Wait that was your first time trying Pho?!?!?! Okayyy- this is one momentous occasion!
That cake looks almost too perfect to be real- wow! Lemon is my favorite flavor cake & it’s making my mouth water!
That French toast looks epic!!! WOW!!! What a great find.
Oh wow Alex’s sushi is so legit. That’s one of my goals for 2019 (to learn to make sushi)
The blue & silver looked so beautiful together!
Ohhh that is one great capture of Pieology’s pizza! I am so glad you love it
I love that y’all got a piñata for Ciel!
This was so fun to read- can’t wait to see your next post . Hope you are having a great weekend, Rossy!!!
(PS. this comment is the definition of overusing the exclamation point, haha)

IT WAS! 😀 I was so excited to finally try it and I loved it! Might go to another place with a few friends because they recommend a place. 🙂 Hope it’s just as good if not better 🙂
Aw yay! 😀 Lemon cake was good, I wanted something different than the vanilla and chocolate cake, and I remembered Alex liked it too. He was happy about it, that’s what matters! 🙂
I actually wanted to create a post of Alex’s cooking, mainly sushi, so everyone can see how he makes it but it’s so time consuming lol.
😀 😀 😀 I’m one of few who probably overuses the exclamation point 😉 no worries here lol

Oh! So exciting that you got to try pho for the first time. 🙂 I am so happy you enjoyed it & that it even exceeded your expectations!

Happy belated birthday to Alex!! That cake is so cute!! 😍 & I spy the beautiful postcard you sent me!! I really did display it in my home, too, so the postcard was such a good idea. 🙂 Thank you again for thinking of me!!! ♡

Big Al’s looks like a blast! I’ve never heard of that place. Do you guys have a Dave & Buster’s?!

Your Christmas tree turned out beautifully. I love the color scheme you chose! & Sophie looks so darn cute with that collar.

    Can’t wait to see part 2!!! 😄

Yeahh!! It was so good. We’re planning on going to try more pho with friends another time. If not we will go ourselves to a place they recommend.
And thanks I’ll let him know lol. Awh yay! Glad to know it served its purpose haha. And no problem!! 💜
We do have a Dave & Buster’s but I’ve never been because it’s literally at the mall. My family and neighbors have gone and they said it’s fun. It must be like that more or less. Big Al’s has bowling downstairs and they also serve food and drinks on a separate area, they have TVs for the sports fans lol.

Oh!! If beef is not completely cut out of your diet you should totally try the beef pho next time you go. 😀 I don’t think D&B’s has bowling so maybe Big Al’s is bigger?! Interesting that there are different arcade places all over. Boyfriend was just saying he wants to go to one for his birthday this year, too!

And don’t worry it wasn’t your fault! We didn’t really know when the stuff would arrive for either one of us. Lol. I’m glad we got it before the holidays ended.
