Special Foodie Weekend — Part 3

Hope your weekend was amazing, because mine was just a lazy one. Kind of needed that since the weekend before this one was practically an all-out buffet LOL.

I felt like I had to make it a three-part kind of post because last weekend was so special because we got to hang out with family and friends and eat good food. So if you haven’t caught up yet, here’s part one and part two.

And now, onto part three! Fast forward to January 18th

Foodie Outing #10: Yataimura Maru

Yes, again. This time was special, which is why I’m counting it. A good friend of ours asked what places we recommended for ramen, and I immediately said “MARU!” Of course I gave him other options and they ended up going to Maru, anyway. They liked it so much they joined us for dinner on Friday.

We all had Tokyo Ramen except for my friend’s wife, who is also a good friend of mine. We go way back to middle school! 🙂 Anyway, I believe she got the Sapporo Shio Butter Corn Ramen. Below is mine! 🙂

Anyway, as I said, this was a very special day because for the first time in the 5 years that I have been going there, I finally asked “Do you guys have dessert here?” It never occurred to me to ask because we would always get so much food! So glad we chose that specific day to try it!

I ordered mochi ice cream, Alex got tempura banana. Everything was so delicious! I love mochi ice cream so much and this was our first time trying red bean ice cream, and it was out of this world!

I totally get why the Japanese have red bean rice balls so often! It is so subtly sweet, I can see myself getting something with red bean from now on. The tempura banana was also a first, and Alex loved it so much! We might attempt it at home!

Anyway, we stayed there for about an hour and a half because it was around dinner time, the food took almost 30 mins to come out but we got distracted by talking and cracking jokes so it wasn’t a big deal.

But wait, the night is not over….

Foodie Outing #11: Pix Patisserie

I was full by all the food and dessert, but I still had room for something else. Blue Star donuts was just down the street, and they also mentioned an amazing Gelato place within walking distance. However, it was raining and we both had kiddos, so to avoid getting soaked, we decided to find another place.

They asked if we liked macarons and I said YEAHH! Haven’t had one since the Portland Night Market! They took us to this place, Pix Patisserie, and as soon as I walked in I was in heaven! They have more stuff than this, by the way.

I’ve never had so many desserts and flavors to chose from! I decided to get four, Rose and Lime for me, Passion Fruit for Alex, and Chocolate Chip for CL. They were so so good! Totally worth the price! They’re not as pricey as other “top places” around Portland. I’ll have to return and try all their flavors.

I dropped Alex off at home because he had to work on Saturday, but we ended up going to my cousin’s house since she was unable to make it to dinner with us. The friends that had dinner with us went too.

It’s always a good time with my cousin and her family, she’s always making us laugh. She also showed us this really good show on Netflix called La Nina, which is based on a true story. She was already like 50 something episodes but we were watching it with her anyway, and caught on to what was happening and we got HOOKED! We stayed there till 1am and decided to go home when the kiddos looked sleepy and tired.

Foodie Outing #12: MOD Pizza, December 19th

Another place I found thanks to Mackenzie.

This time  my dad was wanting to hang out with us since his wife is in Colombia until the 8th next month. Anyway, he suggested ordering pizza but I explained how they all suck now, lol. I suggested MOD pizza and he agreed. We each got our own, personal, pizza. See what did there? (Hint: Depeche Mode!)

I love spending time with my dad, he’s so chill. He used to get so angry when he were kids but he has mellowed out haha. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree though! I take after him lol.

When we got home I was petting Sophie pretty much the entire night. She’s the sweetest, she loves me sometimes too. 🙂

January 20th, Sunday

It was supposed to be a lazy day / cleaning day. We did initially start off lazily. I woke up and Alex was already working on selling some of his Pokemon cards, new obsession of his is selling them lol. Anyway, I asked him to let me watch TV while he did that and I came across a Netflix special, Ugly Delicious. I didn’t think much of it and thought, what the hell, let’s give it a shot.

It was interesting almost immediately! The first episode was of course, PIZZA! My fave next to ramen. I binged watched at least four episodes before my friend and his wife messaged me asking if we were busy. Can you guess where this is going? I bet you can.

Foodie Outing #13: Noodle Man

We decided to get together again, this time with my cousin and her husband. None of us had been there but my friend’s co-workers highly recommended it. Stole this photo from my friend’s FB because I didn’t get a chance to:

It was neat to be trying a new place with my cousin and our friend, we had loads of fun eating good food and being in good company. I don’t take days like these for granted!

Onto the food. Alex got these pot stickers which were supposed to be spicy, but weren’t? Still good though.

He got their Sichuan Spicy Beef Noodles and I got their Chicken and Mushroom Noodle Soup.

So so good!! It didn’t let me down!

The month is practically over and what started as “only one new place a month” kind of turned into two or three almost all at once, lol. I have no idea what new place we will go to next month, but if it’s worth while, I’ll be sure to post about it. 🙂

And this is not part of last weekend, but from Saturday, but I finally got my wish of getting some Blue Star donuts! Love it!! 🙂 This one was their Raspberry Rosemary Buttermilk!

So that’s it! A fun and exciting, special weekend spent with family and friends. We plan on having the same friends over this weekend along with my cousins and their family for a small potluck. Should be fun!! 🙂

I got a few exciting things to edit and I can’t wait for you guys to see them in the coming weeks! 🙂 Have an amazing week!! 🙂 ❤ xx

Oh my gosh!! That mochi ice cream looks so yummy- it looks JUST like the my/mo mochi! Red bean ice cream sounds delicious. I would love to try that someday… I’m not even sure what flavor to imagine! Wow wow that patisserie looks amazing!!! YUM! Gosh, that pizza you got looks so good. Which do you prefer- Mod or Pieology? Girl, we are twins- pizza & ramen are just two of the greatest things in life (and sushi of course 😉 ). I have got to check out that show now! Noodle Man sounds oh so yummy. My mouth is watering over those donuts!! Mmm. I need to try that flavor next time. Thanks for sharing, girl! What an insanely yummy post. xo

RIGHT?? SO GOOD!! And sorry I don’t mean for it to look like I’m screaming at you, it was just so exciting and good!
Red bean is like, sweet, but not sweet like jam. It’s kind of a hard flavor to describe.
I think I prefer Pieology. The taste is better in my opinion, I think the pie taste makes a huge difference lol. Yass, ramen and pizza are LIFEEE!

haha- girl I am queen of Caps. I overuse them, so I love when others use them too. hahah.

Oohhhhh that red bean sounds amazing!!

I agree- Pieology is better. I think their ingredients taste higher quality & fresher.

I know, it was just an amazing weekend! ❤ 🙂
And mochi is a Japanese rice cake, but very very soft, and the mochi ice cream is literally just that, a mochi (rice cake) with ice cream filling! ;D so good!!! so the ice cream isn't really any different, it's just the way they have the ice cream filling with mochi surrounding it, i hope that makes sense?

I am so happy you got have such special times with your friends and family! The red bean ice cream is so yummy, huh?? I hope you get to try more red bean things. I highly recommend red bean sesame balls… yum yum. 😀 Those macarons look perfect!! & I love all the flavors you chose. ❤ Your cousin sounds like a lot of fun, I love people who can always you laugh. My dad still gets super angry sometimes but he has gotten so soft over the years it seems, he used to be a lot tougher & distant. That's so cute that your dad has mellowed out now & you realize that you're quite alike. 🙂 The food from Noodle Man looks soo good & so does that donut!! So glad your wish of a Blue Star donut came true. Hope you get to try some exciting places this month, I can't wait to hear all about 'em if you do!! ❤

It was a great time, especially for me. I don’t socialize very often, sad I know 😂
And yess!! So good! I’m bummed that red bean isn’t as well known around here but I did find a japanese bakery I’m dying to go to, hopefully I can make it happen this weekend. Ans hopefully they have something with red bean.
Yeah my cousin is a riot haha. Lol my dad still gets mad too but not so much at us anymore. And I had to get my character from someone right? People tell me I’m scary though lol. Even in junior high the boys were kind of afraid because I never held back 😂😂
I am still looking into new places to try, so I’ll have to plan a bit. We spent so much money on take out and dining out last month 😭

Aw that’s not sad! I don’t socialize either besides for at work. 😛

Vietnamese have this red bean dessert too. It’s called “tri-color with red bean” or something… you can find it on the menu at most places they serve pho!! So dang yummy. ❤ I hope you get to go to that Japanese bakery to find all the goodies!!! Would love to hear all about it, if you do. 😉

I don't know where I got my character lol I am a mix of both my parents, I think. I love that you don't hold back & that the boys were scared of you. I probably had the opposite effect on boys in high school, if I'm being honest. 😛

Going out to eat really does add up!! But I don't even know if buying groceries is that much better with all the food wastage, y'know?!

*online high five* staying home is the best am right?! XD
oooooohhh I’ll have to look into it, thanks for letting me know, I always want dessert at places we go to, but I just never look into it since I’m not familiar with anything LOL
I’m okay with my character/personality to be honest, I used to hate who I was and how I acted but I’m the type of person that will stand up for you and will more often than not be super honest. I know lots of people hate that but I can’t just lie to people, it’s not in my nature. Lots of my old high school friends liked to keep their mouth shuts and sweep things under the rug, not me lol. I have soo many flaws that I’m okay with as well. I don’t want to be perfect or normal, that’s too boring. At least my way of being will keep people away from me haha. The ones who stay I know care for me as fucked up as i am 😀 lol
you make a great point! LOL we have been doing fairly well with eating everything we make lately. but trust me, eating at home is SO MUCH CHEAPER LOL. Now that I have an expense tracker and budget planner, I am realizing how much we spend each week on take out or dining out, its soo much!!!! T_T

Hahaha *online highfive* 🖐🏽! Staying home is my favorite. ♡ I hope you can find that Vietnamese red bean dessert if you go out for some pho next time!!

I usually like my character & personality nowadays, too. I do wonder why I do or say certain things often though. I think we are a lot alike in some ways, Rossy. 🙂 From what I’ve come to know of you, I think you’re an awesome person!! I love that you don’t want to be this “perfect & normal” kind of person– neither do I! & that you’re always honest. Unfortunately that’s hard to find! You are one in a million. ♡

Omg sameee! I think too much and eventually figure out why I say the things I say lmao.. I have so many issues, no joke.. I could probably fill a whole journal with them LOL. What’s important is that I’m aware of my faults and can laugh at myself and make jokes about it. Life is not fun if you can’t laugh at yourself XD
Awwwh thanks!!!!!!! T_T You’re gonna make me tear up!! The last few days have been total shit so it’s been nice to hear some nice things from some of my closest friends (you included)! ❤ xx

          • Hunida says:

I think way too much, too!! I never get to understand why I do or say some things though… I just am weird LOL. We could all fill a whole journal of all of our problems, you’re not alone. ♡ & you’re soso right about life not being fun if you can’t laugh at yourself!!

I’m sorry you’ve been having some shit days, babe. 😦 Always here for you!!!
