Hope your weekend was amazing, because mine was just a lazy one. Kind of needed that since the weekend before this one was practically an all-out buffet LOL.
I felt like I had to make it a three-part kind of post because last weekend was so special because we got to hang out with family and friends and eat good food. So if you haven’t caught up yet, here’s part one and part two.
And now, onto part three! Fast forward to January 18th…
Foodie Outing #10: Yataimura Maru
Yes, again. This time was special, which is why I’m counting it. A good friend of ours asked what places we recommended for ramen, and I immediately said “MARU!” Of course I gave him other options and they ended up going to Maru, anyway. They liked it so much they joined us for dinner on Friday.
We all had Tokyo Ramen except for my friend’s wife, who is also a good friend of mine. We go way back to middle school! 🙂 Anyway, I believe she got the Sapporo Shio Butter Corn Ramen. Below is mine! 🙂
Anyway, as I said, this was a very special day because for the first time in the 5 years that I have been going there, I finally asked “Do you guys have dessert here?” It never occurred to me to ask because we would always get so much food! So glad we chose that specific day to try it!
I ordered mochi ice cream, Alex got tempura banana. Everything was so delicious! I love mochi ice cream so much and this was our first time trying red bean ice cream, and it was out of this world!
I totally get why the Japanese have red bean rice balls so often! It is so subtly sweet, I can see myself getting something with red bean from now on. The tempura banana was also a first, and Alex loved it so much! We might attempt it at home!
Anyway, we stayed there for about an hour and a half because it was around dinner time, the food took almost 30 mins to come out but we got distracted by talking and cracking jokes so it wasn’t a big deal.
But wait, the night is not over….
Foodie Outing #11: Pix Patisserie
I was full by all the food and dessert, but I still had room for something else. Blue Star donuts was just down the street, and they also mentioned an amazing Gelato place within walking distance. However, it was raining and we both had kiddos, so to avoid getting soaked, we decided to find another place.
They asked if we liked macarons and I said YEAHH! Haven’t had one since the Portland Night Market! They took us to this place, Pix Patisserie, and as soon as I walked in I was in heaven! They have more stuff than this, by the way.
I’ve never had so many desserts and flavors to chose from! I decided to get four, Rose and Lime for me, Passion Fruit for Alex, and Chocolate Chip for CL. They were so so good! Totally worth the price! They’re not as pricey as other “top places” around Portland. I’ll have to return and try all their flavors.
I dropped Alex off at home because he had to work on Saturday, but we ended up going to my cousin’s house since she was unable to make it to dinner with us. The friends that had dinner with us went too.
It’s always a good time with my cousin and her family, she’s always making us laugh. She also showed us this really good show on Netflix called La Nina, which is based on a true story. She was already like 50 something episodes but we were watching it with her anyway, and caught on to what was happening and we got HOOKED! We stayed there till 1am and decided to go home when the kiddos looked sleepy and tired.
Foodie Outing #12: MOD Pizza, December 19th
Another place I found thanks to Mackenzie.
This time my dad was wanting to hang out with us since his wife is in Colombia until the 8th next month. Anyway, he suggested ordering pizza but I explained how they all suck now, lol. I suggested MOD pizza and he agreed. We each got our own, personal, pizza. See what did there? (Hint: Depeche Mode!)
I love spending time with my dad, he’s so chill. He used to get so angry when he were kids but he has mellowed out haha. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree though! I take after him lol.
When we got home I was petting Sophie pretty much the entire night. She’s the sweetest, she loves me sometimes too. 🙂
January 20th, Sunday
It was supposed to be a lazy day / cleaning day. We did initially start off lazily. I woke up and Alex was already working on selling some of his Pokemon cards, new obsession of his is selling them lol. Anyway, I asked him to let me watch TV while he did that and I came across a Netflix special, Ugly Delicious. I didn’t think much of it and thought, what the hell, let’s give it a shot.
It was interesting almost immediately! The first episode was of course, PIZZA! My fave next to ramen. I binged watched at least four episodes before my friend and his wife messaged me asking if we were busy. Can you guess where this is going? I bet you can.
Foodie Outing #13: Noodle Man
We decided to get together again, this time with my cousin and her husband. None of us had been there but my friend’s co-workers highly recommended it. Stole this photo from my friend’s FB because I didn’t get a chance to:
It was neat to be trying a new place with my cousin and our friend, we had loads of fun eating good food and being in good company. I don’t take days like these for granted!
Onto the food. Alex got these pot stickers which were supposed to be spicy, but weren’t? Still good though.
He got their Sichuan Spicy Beef Noodles and I got their Chicken and Mushroom Noodle Soup.
So so good!! It didn’t let me down!
The month is practically over and what started as “only one new place a month” kind of turned into two or three almost all at once, lol. I have no idea what new place we will go to next month, but if it’s worth while, I’ll be sure to post about it. 🙂
And this is not part of last weekend, but from Saturday, but I finally got my wish of getting some Blue Star donuts! Love it!! 🙂 This one was their Raspberry Rosemary Buttermilk!
So that’s it! A fun and exciting, special weekend spent with family and friends. We plan on having the same friends over this weekend along with my cousins and their family for a small potluck. Should be fun!! 🙂
I got a few exciting things to edit and I can’t wait for you guys to see them in the coming weeks! 🙂 Have an amazing week!! 🙂 ❤ xx
