Play! by Sephora Product Reviews #1

Heyy dolls!

I’m back with more product reviews! All of these products I’ve received through Play! by Sephora before I cancelled it last year. I think I have one more of these posts for the Sephora box, and then I’ll be playing catch up with Boxycharm.

I also want to mention that some of these products I used in my GRWM Trying New Skincare & Makeup video that I posted over on my YouTube channel, if anyone is interested in seeing that. I didn’t really give first impressions of everything though. Let’s get started!

OUAI
Shampoo & Conditioner

— August 2018 Play! by Sephora —

I finished these pretty quickly as they appeared in my September Empties. I briefly mentioned that they weren’t my favorite but I didn’t specify as to why.

The thing is, the products really are good in their own right, but the scent! I can’t STAND IT! It’s just way too strong. I do like a good fragrance, don’t get me wrong, and even better if it lingers, but I just couldn’t stand how strong the scent was for these products. Even their Wave Spray is strongly scented.

Anyway, aside from the scent, I only noticed a difference with the conditioner, not so much with the shampoo. I don’t think the shampoo did anything but cleaned my hair and made it just a tad bit soft. I saw a bigger difference when I used the conditioner. My hair felt deeply nourished and hydrated. I also noticed it tamed some frizz and added some shine and softness.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

Clinique
Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly

— September 2018 Play! by Sephora —

This jelly didn’t feel like a jelly at ALL. It felt so nice and cooling on the skin, I loved it since the first time I tried it. I’m glad I waited to use it when the weather got colder because this was the perfect product to bring back some hydration to my dry winter skin.

I also love that a little goes a long way, less than a quarter sized amount is more than enough for my face and neck. I would repurchase if the brand was CF.

Cruelty Free? No.

Too Faced
Hangover Primer

— September 2018 Play! by Sephora —

Besides this product and the next one I will be reviewing, I’m not too familiar with the brand. But even when I first got into makeup, people would often talk about this face primer like it was the holy grail.

I didn’t notice a HUGE difference in my makeup when using this primer versus others. I’d say my WnW Photofocus Face Primer rivals this one, in my opinion. They’re both good, but nothing special?

It’s supposed to replenish and nourish the skin, but I didn’t notice a difference. Maybe I have to use it more often and try it with different foundation formulas to know for sure but I’m only limited to using liquid during the winter. If I don’t use it up before summer, I’ll be sure to try with a powder formula.

Cruelty Free? Yes! They also have some vegan friendly products!

Too Faced
Melted Matte Lip in Queen B

— June 2018 Play! by Sephora —

I wasn’t too sure about this lipstick because it looked so light! And I was kind of right!

It all depends on lighting and how far you are away from me. Up close in natural and artifical light you can see it’s true color. It’s like a muted mauve with strong pink undertones. I did NOT like it on me. From far away it looks quite nice though. I did also notice a strange smell, but luckily it doesn’t linger.

Despite how much I disliked the shade, I do think the formula is really good, it’s no wonder people talk about these so much. It dries fairly quickly, it has full coverage, feels lightweight on the lips, and I assume it wears well throughout the day. I didn’t feel like wearing it all day myself to find out since I didn’t think it was the shade for me.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

Anastasia Beverly Hills
Clear Brow Gel

— August 2018 Play! by Sephora —

I actually thought this product was decent. It made my eyebrow stay put ALL DAY long. I was pretty impressed. I just didn’t like the texture of my eyebrows. It literally felt like I put hair spray on my brows.

You can say a little goes a long way, but that’s also a bit hard because the spoolie wand practically comes dripping out of the tube. That’s exaggerating but you can feel the wetness on your eyebrows when you apply it. I could do without this product.

Cruelty Free? Yes! Also has some vegan friendly products.

Have you guys tried any of these products?

I haven’t done any of the subscription boxes. But it seems like a lot of these products you can get as samples. I agree with you about the Ouai shampoo and conditioner. The scent is to strong and earthy for me.
I LOVE that jelly! I know a lot of people swear by ABH brow products, but I prefer Benefit. I have better results and their products last all day.
Thanks so much for sharing these reviews beauty1 ❤

I think so? One of the reasons I decided to cancel the box was because of that lol. Too many samples. Boxycharm is so worth it to me at the moment.
The jelly is amazing and it hydrates my skin so well!!
And I’ve never really tried anything from ABH but I have two brow products from benefit and I think the products are great quality. Their brow pencil does last all day on me.
      And thanks for stopping by!🤗💜

I’ve gotten all of these products but never used the shampoo & conditioner. At least, I don’t remember using it if I did lol. I think I’ll give that Clinique jelly another shot! I agree about that primer not making much of a difference & that lippie was too light for me, too. 😛 I actually really like that brow gel & a little does go a long way. I wipe all the product off on the sides to the point it looks like there’s actually nothing on it before applying!
