Unboxing My Final BoxyLuxe: September 2019

Heyy dolls!

I miss you all! It feels like I’ve been gone for a while but I’m back. Slowly easing back into blogging, and today I have my September BoxyLuxe! Let’s get started because this one is a little long..

Theme: All Access

This month we got 8 products which was a bit disappointing. In the past we have gotten 9 or 10, so that’s a bit strange.. In my opinion, the products don’t really match the theme, not that they ever do I guess..

Watch me unbox it:

NEW Changes to Boxycharm

If you haven’t heard yet, Boxycharm announced that they will be making some changes to their subscription so let’s go through that real quick. If you don’t care, keep scrolling for the unboxing.

This information is taken from Boxycharm’s site.

Customization – NEW! Starting this November, test complexion swatches for products better matched to your skin tone.

Choice – NEW! BoxyCharm subscribers select 1 item in their box every month. BoxyLuxe subscribers select 1-3 items for their BoxyLuxe every 3 months.

Add-Ons – NEW! Add more beauty products at member-exclusive prices with free shipping every month.

BoxyPopUp – MORE beauty and lifestyle product deals at up to 80% off will NOW be available every quarter, with the next one in November.

Value – The BoxyCharm box will NOW be valued at over $125 (up from $100) every month starting this November.

Boxycharm will be updating the BoxyCharm price to $25 per month starting November 1, 2019. The BoxyLuxe price of $49.99 every 3 months remains the same.

To lock-in your BoxyCharm box for $21 per month for a limited time, sign-up to a prepaid subscription before Monday, September 30, 2019 11:59pm EST.

In November, they will be launching BoxyCharm Premium, a NEW and even BIGGER monthly beauty box, featuring 6-7 beauty products valued at over $175 for only $35 per month. Initial quantities will be limited. They already have a sign-up for their waitlist.

My Thoughts On These Changes

Customization – I think it’s great that they are allowing people to test swatch products. People have complained for YEARS about this, but who knows how well it will work out?

Choice – Getting to pick 1 item every month (up to 3 for BoxyLuxe) is another thing that people have been asking for, for a very long time. They had done it with the BoxyLuxe before and it was cool but failed to do it for this BoxyLuxe so I was pretty pissed about that..

BoxyPopUp – I nearly missed the opportunity for this when they first launched it, because they failed to send an email? Pretty absurd! I was able to get three things but nearly everything was sold out. Regardless, now we know when it will be available and even though I’m no longer a subscriber, I’m excited to see what kind of things they add to the shop. The only down-side to this is you’re not allowed to use your Charms..

Value & Price – I’m glad they’re raising the box value, but I don’t think these changes justify the price raise?? Is it just me? The one thing they got going for them is their affordable box with full sized, high-end brands. To raise the price is stupid in my opinion. Which brings me to the next point..

Boxycharm Premium – Who asked for this? I feel like they’re copying Ipsy? And you’re paying an extra $10 USD for an extra item or two? I guess that’s cool but it seems there’s some confusion as to how it works. I’m still not clear on it. I don’t like that you have to be subscribed to the regular box to get BoxyLuxe in the first place, I think they should leave it up to people to chose which box they want? Idk.. The details on this are still not clear.

What are your thoughts on the changes/add-ons Boxycharm is making?

Moving on from this. Now we can start with our unboxing! BUT, spoiler alert, I wasn’t into this box as much. Only a few products caught my eye so let’s just jump right in and let me tell you my first impressions of each product.

Sunday Riley
Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream

Retail Price: $65.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_sundayrileyboxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_sundayriley2

I have lots of skincare products in rotation, so I don’t know if I want to add this in the rotation just yet, but it sounds great. It’s a gel-cream moisturizer and I’ve had great experience with one in the past during winter, so maybe I’ll save it for that time. I opened it and it smells pretty mild but interesting. I can’t pin-point the scent, maybe papaya, but it smells like “clean” beauty, kind of.

Hank & Henry
Blickity Black Eye Liner

Retail Price: $20.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_hankhenry

I was kind of excited about getting this eye liner, mainly because some of the ones I have are starting to dry out and a few I didn’t like as much. I like the fine tip of this one, I’m able to draw thin and thicker lines, so it’s great so far. I still haven’t tried it on the eyes so I’m not sure if it skips or pulls on the skin or not.

I do have a lipstick from this brand and it’s amazing so I’m kind of expecting the same quality for this eye liner.

Stila
Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina Shimmer

Retail Price: $22.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_stila

I have a red lipstick from this line and I love the formula. It’s so creamy and the color pay-off is amazing in one swipe! The color really does stay on the lips, based on my experience from the one I already have. The shade on this one is quite nice, kind of mauvey with strong pink undertones. I usually don’t go for shades like this one anymore, and I feel like beauty sub boxes give these shades out ALL the damn time, but I’m not mad at it because the formula is great.

Dr. Brandt
Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask

Retail Price: $52.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_drbrandt

I don’t have irritated skin but I do have rosacea, so I do sometimes have redness which is normal for me. I hope that this product actually helps my skin to relieve some of that redness. I’m also very excited about it because I’ve never used sleeping masks before so this will be a first for me. I haven’t been let down by Dr. Brandt products, I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve gotten in my Boxy from this brand, so I expect the same from this one.

IGK
Mistress Hydrating Balm

Retail Price: $29.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_igk

I’ve received samples from this brand through Ipsy and I was never a fan because of the strong scent. This one isn’t as obnoxious as the others, but you CAN still smell it. I’m not super stoked about getting this product, my hair is really picky and anytime I’ve used hair creams, my hair either doesn’t like it or it leaves me with a sticky/goopy/oily mess of hair. So I don’t know what to expect from this product until I actually use it.

Moda
8 Pc Brush Kit

Retail Price: $69.99 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_modaboxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_moda2

Why is an 8 piece brush kit so expensive?? $70 is insane! However, the bristles are super soft and they’re VEGAN! I do like the black quilted handles, I think they’re gorgeous! I wasn’t stoked about this product because I wanted the curling iron over this, so whatever.. The brushes are growing on me, and honestly, one of my favorite things about Boxycharm is that they send you lots of brushes, so I can’t complain. You can’t really have too many brushes anyway..

Violet Voss
Essentials Eyeshadow Palette

Retail Price: $29.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_violetvoss

I was super happy about getting this palette. The photos of it looked amazing online when they released the spoilers, and having it in my own hands, I can see just how gorgeous the shades are.

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_violetvoss2boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_violetvoss_swatches

I love that it’s a colorful palette and the mattes and shimmers are evenly balanced so I’m excited to play with it hopefully soon! I do have their Holy Grail palette which has an amazing formula so I expect no less from this one!

Tarte
Park Avenue Princess Palette

Retail Price: $45.00 USD

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_tarte

I’m not as excited about this product because I feel like most of their face palettes look the same? I did get another one of their face palettes in my June BoxyLuxe as well I believe? I’m just not a fan of these in general. However, are you seeing this beauty?? The packaging blew my mind, it looks absolutely gorgeous!

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_tarte2boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_tarte_swatches

I do like that the shades in this palette are great for a wide range of skin tones, so it would come in handy for MUA’s in my opinion. I did swatch it after deciding to try it and some shades look decent enough for me to use. I will have to test it and get back to you guys on what I think about it.

Swatches

Here are the swatches of the lipstick and the eyeliner:

So those are all the products in my LAST BoxyLuxe. Again, I’m not super excited about this box. I expected my last one to be banging, sadly it wasn’t. And I was also a bit upset over their Charm Room which had shitty products so I wasn’t able to use my $20 worth of Charms I had left.

boxycharmsept2019_boxyluxe_contents2

Needless to say, I am so happy to be done with this box for a while. I may end up trying other boxes just to see what else is out there. I also expect to make some purchases from now until the end of the year so my money will be going towards those purchases instead. I’m so excited I cannot wait!

I hope you guys have an amazing weekend! I’m so glad to be back to blogging but I will be easing back into it. Hope you guys understand. I love you all! See you later!

    1. Yeah the shade is quite nice, I can’t wait to try it on the lips some time soon hopefully 🙂
And the Violet Voss palette is probably my favorite out of everything in this box, I also can’t wait to play with it a bit I’m excited 🙂

    1. I did decide to keep it, thus why I swatched it, I am curious about it too which was a huge reason I kept it, even though I have a ton other face palettes lol.
Great reminder, I totally want to try FFF as well at some point, gotta save up some money at the moment, but when I get the chance to sub again to a box, it will definitely be that one. Maybe the winter one will look awesome 🙂

  1. Rosssssy!!! I’ve missed you! So… that lipstick colour is gorgeous! That’s a shade I don’t have enough of actually… maybe I should have subscribed to this box LOL. Anyway, that brush set sounds awesome. I would have loved to have received that because like you say, you can never have too many brushes. Also it’s amazing that they’re vegan and so soft too! I’m definitely going to have to check this brand out. Thanks for sharing Rossy and all the information and recommendations! I’m so excited to see what items you purchase in the coming months 😍😍😍 have a great week!

    1. Awh I’ve missed you too lovee!
Yeah the lipstick shade is great I hope to wear this season! Idk if this box is open to the UK, at least not yet though it would be great if they did.
The brush set is amazing too super soft bristles and the handles are cute.
I am waiting on a few releases this season so I might end up doing several hauls lol.

  2. I’m so annoyed about the changes for the extra cost. I’m not willing to pay an extra $10 for two more products, so I would just stick with the regular box. I wish they had offered to grandfather current subscribers at the current price. I know I can sign up for three months at a time to get when I’m paying now but it’s still annoying, especially with the Canadian shipping charge tacked on.
That Tarte contour palette actually looks so gorgeous!! I was hoping I would get the clay face palette or the Natural Face palette (since mine broke) but I got the Violet Voss eyeshadow palette instead. I hope you share some looks with it because I need some inspiration!

The moda brushes look really nice, but if you wanted the curling iron I can see how you would be disappointed. Most of us have more brushes than we need, so the iron would be much more unique! It’s crazy that they retail for $70 too.

    1. I know right? it seems really unnecessary, like the regular boxes are perfect the way they are, I don’t think their changes and additions required a price change from $21 to $25… it’s such a shitty move, especially for you guys! I was literally thinking the same like “OMG Canada is gonna have to pay even more now!”
The Tarte palette is growing on me a little, I’ll have to sit down and really try using it and see which shades would fit me best or if I can mix them up
Exactly! I have plenty of brushes and if I ever need more I can just buy some! LOL But yeah, it’s insane. I may have to invest in one or buy one from the drugstore 😦

      1. Yeah $4 per person is a lot for not a ton of changes. For us Canadians it’s closer to a $6-7 jump 😭

        I’m glad you’re liking it!

That’s too bad about the iron, it’s a lot to shell out at once for one.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. In my opinion, we’re not really benefiting from this price change LOL.. but they are..
Well if you know of any good curling irons, 1″ or 2″ let me know. I need some recommendations. If it’s better to save up for a more expensive one, I’ll do it instead of a drugstore one. Nothing wrong with drugstore, but I know there’s higher quality products out there too. Idk

          Like

          1. Definitely 🙁 I unfortunately don’t have a lot of experience with curling irons, I just have a $30 one from Amazon 😅 it works okay, but I rarely use it with how long my hair is. So if you find a good one let me know!

  3. Okay, I have no idea how I missed this whole new Boxycharm Premium in the e-mail, lol. I didn’t see the info on it! That’s so confusing. Will we need to be subscribed to the Regular box to get a Premium? What I got out of it is: to get the Luxe you need to ALSO be subscribed to the Regular box. But to get the Premium, you don’t need to get the Regular box. BUT without the Regular box & only the Premium, you are NOT eligible for the Luxe. LOL wow! Crazy. & You’re right, like, 1 more item for $10… I don’t know about that & totally agree with what you said about the price change, too.

Oh my gosh, sub boxes really do love to give out that same Stila lippie shade all the time but, hey, at least it’s a good formula!! I’ve never tried a sleeping mask before either, I’d love to hear how that works for you. I always hear the best things about Dr. Brandt!

Aw, wow! I didn’t know there was a curling wand that some people got!? I haven’t seen anyone else get it either?! 😛 That’s wild that the brush set is $70, I feel that’s a bit inflated, right?

The VV Palette is truly gorgeous & fun, so glad you’re loving it. Your swatches look awesome! & I’m so sick of looking at tarte face palettes, they’re all the same & SO boring lol. Their packaging is ALWAYS sooo dang pretty or cutesy though, ugh!!

I’m so sorry that you didn’t find anything use your Charms on! I only ever had 50 points so I didn’t think it was worth much. I’m excited to see what other boxes you try & what purchases you make!! ❤ SO happy you're back!!

    1. I didn’t look into how it worked in terms of whether or not you’re eligible for Luxe if you have Premium, but if that’s true, that’s idiotic. I like how other boxes have the option to choose the boxes you want instead of having to be subbed to one to get an upgrade. Like I get they’re trying to make more money but they’re gonna get lots of complaints about that I bet.
I haven’t seen anyone else get the curling iron either? I mean maybe just one or two person but everyone else I know is getting the brushes. And the brushes are nice, but frankly so are the Luxie brushes. In December’s Luxe box I got a complete brush kit from Luxie and it was more than 8 pieces for about $60 if I remember correctly. So yeah, I would agree that the price is a bit inflated. I wonder what the difference is.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks the Tarte palette looks the same and boring. Like the formula is great and all but come up with different shades. I admire them for choosing shades that are universally flattering but come the fuck on! Make more palettes with different and exciting shades. Now a days people like to be bold with makeup and experiment, I think it’s starting to matter less whether some shades are flattering or not. After all, makeup is an art and if you can pull off certain shades even if they’re not your go-to, then no problem lol.
It’s fine, they sent me an email that they had updated the charm room, and they showed me some options but it was all makeup that I already have from previous boxes and the other was skincare I believe, but I wasn’t interested in it.. They kind of suck LOL

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yeah I looked into it & they said they are “working on” making Luxe available for Premium members… that’s SUPER idiotic lol. I hate the get-more-money schemes… especially when they’re so obvious!

That’s annoying that you got brush sets back to back, too. Like, they ARE always nice to get but, kind of boring, am I right? I still never saw anyone with the curling iron!

I agree! Makeup is more fun creativity & fun these day so we’re looking for bold & different shades. Tarte seriously does the same ones over & over! & I feel like they copy other brands A LOT with their packaging & themes.

Why would they put products that were in previous boxes in the Charm Room? Don’t they know we already have that? How dumb…

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Right? Idk if it was you who I told, but all these extra “charges” aren’t benefiting us at all. It’s all for them..
Yeah I mean, I know I always say you can never have too many brushes, but the ONE time I wanted something different they didn’t come through for me -_-
Yeah they’re dumb, I don’t know who’s in charge of the Charm Room or who even decides to put previous Box items in there lol. No wonder no one buys things with their Charms but it looks like you have a limit. Last time I accumulated charms, they stopped my amount at like $62 so I was kind of forced to get something, I got an eye primer I think it was and an extra set of the Moda brushes they once sent to us.. eh

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Yeah, I feel you. The changes really are more for them & less for us. Brushes are really nice to get but, I don’t know, they should’ve switched things up a bit since the previous box had a set already. 😛 I got another e-mail saying new items were uploaded to the Charm Room but, I bet they’re lying lol. It really makes no sense that we’d want to get products they have already given us, how dumb that they limit you, too!

            Like

          2. I got the same email, almost activated it again to check but I was like “nah, not worth it”. This month’s spoilers look ok. Not the best. The rest of the products that “might” be included in the box are products I’ve seen before in previous boxes. I wonder if they’re just about to amp everything up for November 1st.

            Liked by 1 person

  4. What a shame that this last box was only subpar! That’s disappointing, I’m sure. The Boxycharm changes don’t seem that impressive either. Even though the brushes are beautiful, I can see why you’d want something else like the curling iron, especially since I’m sure you have a lot of brushes now from sub boxes. $70 for brushes is crazy!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Disappointing indeed..
Some changes are “yay” but when you see the price raise it’s like “nahhh” lol
Yeah $70 for brushes definitely is too much. I’d rather pay the same amount for a curling iron tbh lol
