Project Pan 2019: End of Year Update

Hello my dolls!

We are at the end of 2019 and I figured I should update you guys on how this year’s project pan went. I definitely struggled to use some products but I am very pleased with my overall progress and cannot wait to do it again next year.

Let’s just see how I did these last few months and will do a quick total at the end.

Did I Hit Pan?

Not this quarter, unfortunately. I didn’t use either one of the eyeshadow palettes in my project pan because I wanted to experiment with other palettes I had gotten or haven’t used.

Products I’ve Been Using A Lot

I used pretty much ALL of the makeup products, except the lipsticks. Even though I did a declutter recently, I feel that I might have to toss a few more lipsticks, especially those not being used.

What’s Left?

A lot, actually. Despite the fact that I emptied quite a lot, there are still plenty of products that haven’t been completely finished which can be tough, considering most of them (like powders) take a very long time to use up.

Here is everything that is left from each category:
Note: some stuff were add-ons at some point during the year

As you can see, there are a few of powders (including palettes) along with those lipsticks I talked about above. I also noticed that eye pencils take a while to use up as well but I’m happy that I’ve made great progress with the Essence Kajal Pencil.

Feel free to watch, I’ll provide key points down below for you guys here.

* * *

Bath & Body

The Bath & Body Works Stress Relief Eucalyptus Tangerine Body Cream is one of my favorites that I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying. It’s moisturizing and hydrating and it’s also lightweight and sinks into my skin quickly. I am a fan of the scent as I’ve found eucalyptus to sometimes be a very strong scent on its own, but not this one. The citrus also adds a nice touch to it.

The Sensual Amber Body Spray was nice, I’m no really sure of the scent nor the brand, but I’m glad I’ve finished it as it wasn’t my favorite.

My husband forced me to use the Aura Cacia Aromatheraphy Foam Bath a few weeks ago and it was a nice little treat. The scent was so subtle and very relaxing I might want to repurchase at some point.

I don’t do hair treatments as often as I should, but this THEORIE Detoxifying Hair Mask was another little treat. It was so easy to apply, mess-free, and it washed off easily as well. It left my hair feeling so smooth, I loved it! I would love to find the full size and buy it.

Lastly from this section, the Sol de Jainero Brazilean Bum Bum Cream. As moisturizing and quick-absorbing as it is, I didn’t see what the hype was? I didn’t see any difference. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the scent, but after getting the Coco-Cabana and comparing it to this, this one is so much better.

Skincare & Makeup

I really enjoyed the Derma-e Purifying Daily Detox Scrub and the Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask. They were both amazing products that cleared my acne prone skin and also prevented breakouts from happening. Both were lightweight and applied smoothly, though I do recommend caution with the scrub as it can be kind of abrasive on the skin if rubbed too hard.

I liked the Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra Cleasing Mud Mask at first and then not so much the more I used it. It’s a bit too thick for my liking and it did irritate the sides of my nose (I have sensitive skin there). It was a bit hard to wash off too.

The BareMinerals BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation was a great foundation, lightweight, and my skin looked flawless. It’s light coverage which I’m fine with because full coverage looks terrible on me. I would like to try another one with see-through packaging because at times it was hard to see if I shook it properly. Towards the end it was hard to take the rest of the product out because the little ball inside would get in the way of the hole. So in packaging, it sucked, but the quality of the product was GREAT!

Lastly, the Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover was among the best I’ve ever tried. So so good. It removed my eyeliners/mascara and even hard-to-take-off liquid lipstick without having to be rough on my skin. I wish so badly this brand was CF, but I guess I’ll have to suck it up until they are or find a CF dupe/alternative.

Total Products:

In 2019 I started with 70 products and I added 16 more along the way including those that were decluttered/thrown away. This quarter I emptied 10, which is a little less that my previous quarters but looking at this project overall, I managed to empty quite a bit.

Empties per quarter:

1st Qtr: 7 | 2nd Qtr: 25 | 3rd Qtr: 14 | 4th Qtr: 10

I managed to empty (or declutter) 56 products in total out of the 86 for the entire year. Though that’s about a 60% success rate, I am very happy to say that I used up almost all of the skincare products. Makeup is harder to hit pan on/finish up, but I am also very proud of myself that I managed to finish up a foundation before the year ended.

That is it my loves! That’s a wrap on my 2019 Project Pan! I’d love to know how you guys felt you did this year, did you empty as many products as you thought you would? Do you have any specific goals for 2020? I’d love to know!

I hope you have an amazing, happy New Year! May 2020 bring you all health and happiness and lots of love! Thanks for sticking around with me another year! xoxo

  1. 60% is still really good!! I went to write my project pan year end update and I only finished one product from it this quarter. Oops! I don’t think that I’ll be doing a project pan next year, but it’s good to keep track of what is actually getting used.

I hope you have an amazing new years eve!

    1. Thanks so much!! And nothing wrong with that, the last three or four months of the year tend to be pretty busy for anyone. I want surprised that I didn’t finish more products even though I technically could have, or should have.
I’m still thinking on whether I want to continue a project pan, and if so, how long to go between updates. Lol. Maybe I’ll skip it too idk but then again I really want to finish up specific products that I’ve had for a while and if I don’t prioritize those over new ones, they’ll probably expire before I finish them.
I hope your new years eve celebrations went well! Happy new year to you too!

      1. I think half my makeup is probably expired at this point 😆 I hate throwing things away so I use them for way too long. But this year I want to be better about not buying more than I can use up.
Maybe you could do a smaller, more targeted project pan so you still have some freedom in what to use but those specific products get finished? You’ll figure it out!

        1. Saaameee! I have plenty of skincare and makeup to use up, so unless I need something, i will go out and buy it but honestly, I really** don’t need anything at the moment lol. And I’m so glad I also decided to cancel boxycharm. I feel less overwhelmed about looking into my stash to see what I need to use lol. I actually haven’t done that at all, but will look through it this week for sure. I need to reorganize anyway.
I was talking to Hunida about the project pan, and I was telling her that I don’t think I will do one this year? Mainly will be running an “experiment” to see if I can finish more products since I wont be having that pressure on myself to only use certain products more over others, hopefully that makes sense. Like I’ll have a form of project pan, using products that will be expiring, but I won’t force myself to use them ALL the damn time. Does that make sense? I’m hoping that not pressuring myself will give me better results over the span of the year, lol. We will see how right or wrong my theory is lol.

          1. Boxycharm is amazing at first but sampling full sized products each month is way too much! I actually just subscribed to Ipsy again🙊 I still enjoy discovering new makeup but I don’t want the commitment of finishing full sizes.

I completely get that! Shop your stash but without all the rules. I like it 🙂 I’m sure you’ll still be using up lots this year!

          2. Agreed! After the first few months I just couldn’t keep up with trying every single product lol. Especially skincare! That takes me more than a month to try and really figure out if it works for me or not. And it’s usually a month after I start using a product that I see its flaws in texture and performance.
I love ipsy and actually really miss it! I miss getting the bags lol. There have been so many good ones lately and I have also been impressed with the products they are putting out, name brands and all. Good for them!
I hope so, wish me luck! Lpl

          3. I completely agree. Skincare takes a minimum of a month!
I just saw what I’m getting for January and I’m pretty excited! And I don’t mind the sample sizes at all, my project pan has taught me that minis are much better 😂

  2. I’ve never tried the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream myself but it definitely seems like it’s one of those products that everyone hypes, but that’s probably just OK at best. I don’t know why, it’s just always seemed that way to me. So I’m not surprised you weren’t that into it! It seems you’ve done pretty well hitting pan on a lot of your products so kudos to you! Have a really lovely New Year whatever you’re doing! 😘🥂

    1. Agreed, it wasn’t that great lol. Its the problem with overhyped products. Which is one of the reasons I try to not buy whatever everything is into. The products are almost never as good as you hope they will be.

  3. I absolutely need to declutter all my lippies too! I’ve been discarding more & more lately but never any of those for some reason. 😛

That B&BW body lotion sounds luscious but I am allergic to almost anything from that shop– like you said before, it must be a certain ingredient they use… & that was so sweet of Alex to force you to use the foam bath! You deserved it!

I really wanna try a hair mask or a scalp exfoliator & I’m really glad I gave both the Sol de Janeiro creams away. I’m pretty positive the scent would’ve drove me mad lol.

I so agree about the Clinique makeup remover. Best & most gentlest ever. I wish with all my heart they were CF, too. I almost bought a full-sized but couldn’t bring myself to, knowing they aren’t.

You really did so great this year with all your products! Will you be doing this project again this year?!

    1. Decluttering always feels so good. I hate to do it sometimes when I feel like “I might need that later” 😂 you have to be willing to throw shit out, otherwise, you never will let go of some things. Lol.
The lotion was fab! I’m sorry they’re not CF and I’m also sorry that you’re allergic to their stuff. Noted.
I haven’t heard of scalp exfoliators but I’m intrigued. Haha. I do like hair masks, havent done one in a while as i mentioned, but I did buy one.
Oh yeah, you would have NOT liked the scent on the coco cabana one. So terrible.
I know….coming across really great, CF makeup removers has been a challenge. 😭 it’s such a staple in my routine, if I dont have one I cant really do full face makeup. I do still have my towel but I have to wash it every single time I use it so it doesnt get stained lol. Sometimes a makeup remover is much easier and faster lol.
I’m still thinking about if I want to do another project pan or not? I want to and at the same time i dont? I liked keeping track of everything and seeing the process but it was also a hassle separating all my empties from my project pan and my regular empties. I never even saw how many products I emptied all year with both combined. Lol. I might look back and see lol.

      1. Oh my gosh, I was taking pictures for my next Empties/Discards post & I decided to keep ONE thing & wondered WHY I was throwing some stuff out but I knew I had a good reason for each thing lol. It’s so hard!!

Oh I actually thought B&BW was CF for some reason. Every time I go in that store I sneeze over & over, my eyes water & throat dries up! I don’t know what it is!

Oh man, I forgot where I heard about the scalp exfoliator. But I need to try it &/or a hair mask. Which one did you buy?

Phew! I’m even scared to sniff the Sol de Janeiro creams in store. I don’t want to get an insta-headache lol.

The glossier milky oil is actually really nice. It leaves a bit of an oily residue but I wash it off with water. I like it for removing makeup lately. I would love one of those towels but I may be too lazy to wash it all the time.

Ah, you’re right. Well, whatever you do, I’ll be reading it haha. 🙂

        1. It is!! Sooo hard! Lol
Oh that’s awful but I blame them. They overspray so much shit in there lolol. It’s like walking by that one store…..Abercrombie and Fitch, omg makes my head hurt lol.
It’s a mask from Love Beauty and Planet, Murumuru Butter and Rose. I got that one specifically because I currently have the shampoo and conditioner in the same scent, AND a body scrub lol.
Hmmm….I wonder if I should try to buy you one of those makeup towels then…

          1. Lol I was watching your Nov Boxy Unboxing & boyfriend was looking over my shoulder & he laughed when you said you were trying to stay canceled but really wanted the palette. He was like “she sounds exactly like you” hehe. ❤ Ugh yeah Hollister & A&F give me a headache too!

Please let me know how the LB&P hair mask is!

❤ don't worry about it, babe!!

          2. We watched more than half of it but then had to go somewhere so I still need to finish. 😀 ❤ We also both cracked up when you brought out those weird brushes & you were trying to be positive about them then just said "I don't fucking know" LOL.

          3. aww you’re so great! x ❤
I think it's funny that your bf watches my videos with you T_T haha
Alex wants to be in the same room when I film them, but I'm a bit shy so maybe in the future he could be my help so I don't have to do it all by myself lol

          4. Lol he just has the couch turned towards me so he always sees what I’m doing & he will watch whatever I have on when we are smoking. 🙂 I think I would be shy to film videos, too, though!
