Heyy dolls!
I’ve been gone for such a long time from here it feels so weird writing after nearly a month. I have been posting over on AyR Intake but no life updates yet. I promise to fill you all in and go as far back as December because there are some things I would like to share.
Today though, I bring you guys a beauty review (finally!) of some Fourth Ray Beauty products, Colourpop’s sister brand if you’re not familiar. I guess this would be an unofficial One Brand Focus.. I was originally introduced to this brand last year thanks to Cleia, and after reading her reviews I was really intrigued. I didn’t get what I wanted but this little trio was a great start.
I normally don’t follow brands or dedicated beauty accounts on Instagram because I don’t like to be bombarded with so many releases what seemed like week after week, still don’t, so I honestly do really rely on my fellow beauty bloggers for recommendations or suggestions (as well as their reviews). But anyway, let me tell you what I thought about these products.
I do have a Summer Morning Skincare Routine feat. FRB (blog post) and a video to go with it as well from last year over the summer. The thoughts I expressed in that post and video still stand but I did want to give you guys an updated review of these since I was able to use them through the colder months as well.
Wide Awake Trio
So let me start by saying this little trio is no longer available on either ColourPop’s or FRB’s sites, but you can still purchase them alone. This trio came with sample sizes of the mist and face milk, with the oil being the only full sized product. This trio retailed for about $15USD when it was available, which I thought was pretty affordable.
I also really liked that each product had a sticker underneath that showed when the product was made; mine were made around the same time when they were ordered with the exception of the mist.

Watermelon Oil
Rich in antioxidants, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E, Watermelon Seed Oil combats free radical damage, balances sebum production, and provides detoxifying properties.
Benefits:
- Nourishing
Ingredients:
- Watermelon Seed Oil: known to help restore moisture while also balancing skin.
Price: $8.00 USD | Net Weight 0.50 fl oz / 14.80 ml.
Made: March 13th, 2019 | Emptied: December 2019
I generally applied this oil after toner in the morning, and mixed it with my night cream at night for more hydration. I used 2 drops for my face and 1 drop for my neck but as the climate got colder, I found myself needing a bit more. I’ve said this before, but I wasn’t a fan of the scent which wasn’t incredibly bothersome, but thought to mention it again anyway.
I really liked how lightweight it felt for use during the summer; my face didn’t feel oily and it felt nourished. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for the winter and that’s when I noticed it failed me and I could not wait to use it up completely. If I tried to use more of the oil on colder days, my skin would feel greasy. I also absolutely hated the dropper, it took forever to dispense product so I got sick of it and took it off.

Matcha Face Milk
A creamy, lightweight moisture booster to refreshen tired skin. Formulated with matcha milk, jojoba milk, rice milk, white tea, and kale, this formula will quench your skin with antioxidants for a more energized complexion. Safe for all skin types.
Benefits:
- Energizing
- Moisturizing
Ingredients:
- Matcha Milk: known to energize skin with a blend of phytonutrients including caffeine, vitamins and minerals.
- Rice Milk: Supports and enhances skin softness.
- Kale: Loaded with antioxidants including Vitamins A and C.
- White Tea: known for its antioxidant properties.
Price: $14.00 USD | Net Weight: 1 fl. oz. | 30 ml.
Made: March 20th, 2019 | Emptied: December 2019
The most expensive out of the three, the face milk. I loved this face milk for the summer as well, it moisturized my skin so well and it felt like it woke up my skin in the morning. It is lightweight and absorbs quickly which is one of my favorite things and dare I say it nearly replaced my moisturizer. I did like how soft and smooth my face felt after applying it as well.
However, just like the oil, it also failed me during the winter. It just wasn’t enough! My skin was left feeling like it needed extra moisture so I was forced to layer another moisturizer over it. I was able to use 2 drops on my face and 1 drop on my neck during the summer but felt like I needed way more for the colder months. This face milk paired perfectly with the watermelon oil in the warm months but lacked some oomph for the winter.
Despite not working for me in the winter, I really loved this face milk and will consider repurchasing it for the summer. I also love all the yummy ingredients. I have tried some rice products which made my skin feel soft and smooth.

Fresh AF Face Mist
Instantly combats tired, dehydrated skin. A refreshing blend of tibetan ginseng, white lily, rose water, and cucumber water deliver a burst of hydration to revive and energize the complexion.
Benefits:
- AM and PM use
- Refreshing
- Hydrating
Ingredients:
- Tibetan Ginseng: known for its high antioxidant content and skin renewal properties.
- White Lily: known for its conditioning properties which promote healthy skin.
- Rose Water: known for its antioxidant properties which protect and condition the skin.
- Cucumber Water: supports healthy, hydrated skin.
Price: $8.00 USD | Net Weight: 4.15 fl. oz | 122.75 ml.
Made: December 14th, 2018 | Not yet emptied
I am shocked I still haven’t emptied it. Not for the lack of trying, but I’ve just been rotating through this and my Mario Badescu facial sprays. That being said, I do really like this mist and I think it’s my favorite in this trio because it works in both warm and cold climates. It truly does feel refreshing and hydrating at the same time and I’m glad I still have some but will need to use it up quickly before it expires.
I love the blend of ingredients as well, lots of antioxidants which is good for my acne prone skin. I want to purchase a full size once I run out, as I think this one is a good alternative to my Mario Badescu facial sprays. It’s honestly amazing, the dropper is the best and I have absolutely no complaints about this product.
Pros & Cons:
Pros:
- 100% Vegan
- Cruelty Free
- Dermatologist tested
- Paraben and Gluten Free
- Trio great for testing products
- Face Milk and Oil great for summer
- Mist perfect all-year round
- Lots of great ingredients
- Affordable
- A little goes a long way
Cons:
- Trio no longer available (full size only)
- Face milk and oil not enough for winter
While the face milk and oil worked for me in the summer, the results didn’t transfer well into the winter, so that is something to consider if I ever want to repurchase the face milk or oil in the future. The mist however was amazing and I want a full size.

Thanks for the review. It is nice that you share your experience and whether you’ll repurchase / get full size.
I almost bought from Fourth Ray, but when I saw that they sell facial guasha boards I started to think that they’re a phony beauty line *LOL* It is a personal pet peeve.

Thank you very much for stopping by! And believe it or not, you are not the first person to say that they think it’s not a serious skincare brand. Who knows, you might be right! There are a lot of mixed reviews on their products, mine included lol.

I remember liking the face milks quite a bit, but as you said they don’t have quite enough hydration for Winter. I’m glad that the mist worked really well for you, and it sounds like you were able to work with the oil much better than I was! I always felt greasy with the Watermelon Seed oil and like it didn’t quite absorb enough, maybe I should have tried just a few drops mixed with a moisturizer. I’m using their Skin Hero oil as a bath oil right now.
And those dropper bottles! UGH, they are the WORST! I repurposed the dropper from the face milks for the oils and it worked a lot better. Great review!!

I really wished the face milk worked because it was my favorite product to begin with. And I did feel a bit greasy if I applied too much of the oil, but honestly I couldn’t wait to empty it, I disliked it for winter, but yeah, using it with a moisturizer helped made it feel less greasy. But still could feel it a bit.
Yeah the bottle was the absolute worst, I agree lol.

Great review girl! I’m glad most of these items worked for you (even if it was just in the summer). I haven’t tried anything from Fourth Ray before, and if I’m being honest, they’re not a brand that really intrigues me. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews on their products, and I do think for the most part it’s skincare for very young people that markets very well on Instagram.

Thank you, and yeah I was happy I was able to use them at least for summer.
And yeah, I understand. It kinda does feel like it’s marketed towards younger people. And I feel like their marketing style is very much like CP too lol. In my eyes, due to all the reviews ive seen, and my experience with them, I wouldn’t jump at the chance to buy other stuff right away because it’s a hit or miss brand. I guess if I ever wanted to buy something from them, it would be the face milks. I’ve looked at the other products they offer but I didnt see anything that interested me to be honest. I picked up this trio last year because the brand was fairly new, so I thought to give it a shot at least.

Their products look very cute and I *want* to buy them, but in my gut they just don’t seem like very serious skincare, ya know? But whatever works for you is what’s important. I have heard good things about the face milks though, so maybe one day…

Yes, totally understand where you’re coming from. Honestly the fact that I’m not wanting to repurchase anything right away says a lot haha. Usually if I’m in love with something I cannot wait to get it again, but I don’t feel that way with this brand? Idk. I just now for a fact that maybe I can find something slightly better but at least the face milks are affordable.

Yea you can usually tell pretty quickly if a brand sucks you in or not!

Welcome back! Terrific review. I have never heard of Fourth Ray Beauty, but it sounds like a product best suited for late Spring and Summer; Thanks for letting us know. xx

Fourth Ray Beauty is CP’s sister brand and it seems like people who followed CP knew right away because I didn’t know of this brand either until another blogger featured it on her blog

I’ve been curious about Fourth Ray Beauty – great reviews!

Thank you! I don’t want to say I don’t recommend it, but I think this is the kind of brand that has hit or miss products. Therefore I think it would be wise to research more the products you might be interested in lol.

The face mist sounds like the best product of the three but I also like the sound of the milk for Summer too, I guess just not for Winter. It sounds like it leaves skin feeling lovely and soft, I do want to try!! Thanks for sharing! Ps I love the pictures you shared too! Great photography! Hope you’re well Rossy ❤️

It definitely is. The mist was great and refreshing but I also didn’t see myself reaching for it as much as my Mario Badescu ones. If I ever repurchase anything from this brand, it will most likely be the face milks.
And thanks so much!! I’m trying so hard to improve my photography lol

Ahh I will have to try Mario Badescu for sure then, I haven’t used any of those products! Well gal you’re doing great, the photos look so good! ❤

The brand is well known for their facial sprays but they do have a few other products which I have yet to try

I don’t follow anybody on YouTube or IG for beauty releases either so bloggers are my main/only source of influence, too!
What an awesome deal you got on this trio & it isn’t even available anymore! Nice! The face milk & mist both sound really lovely. The winter is sooo dry & cold, it’s like you need the thickest, grossest creams to actually stay hydrated! Bummer most of these couldn’t stand up to the cold but, they sound perfect & so lightweight for summertime.
The Pinterest sized graphic you made looks so good, by the way!
Thank you for sharing!! ♡

I love Erica’s anti-wishlist posts and another series she does because I find out of new brands I’ve never heard of or products in general that might sound okay lol
Yeah definitely a great deal getting a trio like this to try before buying full sizes.
I am still thinking of repurchasing a face milk for the upcoming warmer months but I also wonder if I can find another brand that makes face milks to try and compare lol. And yeah, I hate winter for that, I hate having to slather so many products to keep my face from feeling too dry lol. I love the summer because it simplifies my skincare routine but I also have to deal with oily skin so eh it’s always pros and cons haha
Thank you!! I am trying to get better at “graphic design” for pinterest images haha

Yes!! Erica’s anti-wishlists are some of my favorite posts to read, too. 😀 I learn about a lot of new brands from her & LP at The Newbury Girl.
That sucks they no longer sell this mini trio though. I think a lot of people would rather try it before getting the full-sized stuff. 😛 I almost don’t even like buying the same brands over & over even if they worked well for me because I always wanna try something new & different to see if there’s better so I totally get what you mean about the milk!
& my skin is dried out all year round in Vegas because it’s the freakin’ desert & ALWAYS dry but in MN, my skin had no issues in the summer. I miss that lol.
The graphic looks so good!! Great job!! ❤

I’m not familiar with LP, I’ll be sure to check out her blog 🙂
Exactly, it was really cool of them to have these trios when they launched the brand, for people to try. I guess I understand that now that they are an established brand, they no longer need to have “sample sizes” since people rave about them on IG. They are very instagramable products.
I have probably already said this, but I’m the same way. I cannot bring myself to buy the same brand over and over, especially if I haven’t tried many products. I’m still technically searching for my holy grail products because I have NONE haha

She’s really awesome & she talks about lots of different makeup/brands. 😊
Ah, that makes a lot of sense why they wouldn’t make samples anymore. Personally, if I was a brand owner, I’d always sell them because people like to try things for cheap first, y’know? & someone could find their holy grail through one, making more sales later on.
One day you will find all your holy grails!! I keep switching mine up lol so I guess I don’t really have any either. 😛

I know! I think they got too big too fast, I mean thinking about it now, they are barely a year old haha
Yeah not really holy grails if you find something better and I always believe there is 😅
