I don’t know why it has taken me this long to write this review, but I found these photos while I was going through my hard drive. I had originally taken these photos for another blogger who had asked me to contribute to a post she was making, but I think that fell through and she never used them. So I thought this was the perfect opportunity to rave about my all-time favorite lippies; NYX‘s Soft Matte Lip Creams!
Disclosure: I am not sponsored by NYX to write this review. I am just a huge fan of these lip creams. If NYX wants to sponsor me I wouldn’t be mad at that! 😉
Product Description from Ulta:
Treat your lips to a velvety smooth burst of creamy color! … The matte lip cream goes on silky smooth, then sets to a pigmented matte finish. Surprisingly durable, lightweight and delightfully creamy, it’s no wonder this sweetly scented formula is a fan favorite. The lip cream is light on the lips, but heavy on the pigmentation – a perfect combination. Enriched with skin-smoothing silicones, Soft Matte Lip Cream works to nourish lips while enveloping them in rich color to keep your pout looking and feeling soft. This is the best long-lasting matte lipstick that will stay on throughout your day, no matter what’s for lunch. The liquid matte lipstick has a creamy, durable mousse texture that adds the perfect polish to any look.

Packaging / Formula & Application
The packaging is very simple and sleek. They are small enough for on-the-go, and the doe foot wand makes it easy to apply. These lip creams were among the first lippies I ever tried/purchased because they are affordable and I loved the idea of matte lipsticks without the overly-dry feeling. I was literally hooked on these since the very first time I tried them. They are seriously so amazing and I am not just saying that. They are highly popular and are best sellers. I recommend these to practically everyone.
Fun Fact: All the shades in this line are named after a city from around the world!!
These lip creams feel incredibly smooth when applied; they really do have a mousse-like texture that feels so dreamy on the lips. My favorite thing is that they dry to a soft matte, velvety finish. Since these are lip creams and not actual liquid lipsticks, you don’t get overly dry lips while wearing these. When they do dry, there is little to no transfer to a glass. They are lightweight but pack a punch: they’re incredibly pigmented and they last up to four hours. Be mindful that they do not last through a heavy, greasy meal (just like other lipsticks).
Shade Breakdown & Swatches
NYX has 34 shades in this line and they have a great color selection. There is a shade for everyone whether you like to rock nudes, pinks, reds, or vampy dark shades. I have five shades but would love to get more in the future.
I do want to mention that some shades, especially the lighter ones, are not flattering on every skin tone. A lot of the lighter shades look best on fair skin tones, and even I couldn’t pull off the lightest shade I own, so I did pass it over to my mom whose complexion is more fair than mine. Let’s get through the shades, shall we?
Athens is a matte peach beige, the lightest one I owned. It swatches beautifully and appears to look okay on my arm, but when applied on the lips, it washed me out. It also accentuated the lines in my lips and it was not a cute look. Not all peach shades look great on me and unfortunately, this was one of them. Still, that doesn’t take away how amazing the quality is.
Abu Dhabi a deep rose beige and is a personal favorite. It’s my newest and one I reach for often when I want a “your lips but better” shade. These rosey beige shades look amazing and flattering against my skin tone.
Milan is a mid-toned blue-toned pink as described by NYX. This is one of my oldest and this pink shade is so pigmented and beautiful, a little bright but very wearable.
Note: Ibiza & Morocco have been discontinued and are no longer available.
Ibiza is also my oldest so it didn’t swatch too well compared to the rest.
Ibiza is a deep rose pink shade and is the oldest one I own. I used to reach for this shade so much in the spring and this shade really opened me up to pink lippies. I should toss it even though I don’t use it, but sadly this shade is discontinued so I am on the hunt for a similar shade to replace it.
Last shade is Morocco and this one is a coral orange. I used to be intimidated by red shades when I got serious about makeup, but this was such a great shade to start with. It made me feel more comfortable with bolder reds and it was my go-to lip cream for the summer. Sadly, this one is also discontinued so I would love to replace this one too.
