Black-Owned Beauty Brands I Want to Support, Pt. 1

I have been wanting to make a post like this for a while but had to do loads of research. So over the weekend, I did just that. 🙂

In light of what has been happening for the past few weeks, I thought it was a good idea to make a list of Black-owned brands that I found through my research. More specifically, brands that I’m interested in and would actually purchase*. A lot of them were high-end brands so of course I looked for several that were within my budget.

I typically never look up who owns the brands and/or who the founders are. But I figured it was time to start paying attention, really do my own research, and start supporting smaller and/or lesser known Black-owned brands.

Before we go any further, I want to mention this is not the full list! As I was working on this post this morning, it was taking me too long to finish it so I decided to break it up. I’m not sure how many parts it will be yet, so consider this a mini series; I’ll share my next post next week on Monday! 🙂

Brands I Own / Have Tried

I thought I could start this mini series by sharing a few brands I’m already familiar with and currently own/have in my stash.

Ace Beaute

Cruelty-free: Yes!
Confirmed by Logical Harmony

I was so ecstatic to find out that one of my favorite brands was Black-owned. I got their Grandiose palette in a previous Boxycharm box, and I absolutely LOVED the formula as well as the color story. The pigment is PHENOMENAL!!!!

I was deeply inspired that I created so many looks with this palette and I cannot wait to own more. I actually re-subscribed to Boxycharm to get another palette, Scarlet Dusk. Such beautiful palettes!!

Cruelty-free: Yes!
Confirmed by Logical Harmony

Another brand I’ve tried and loved. The formula of their products is absolutely amazing, I have not been disappointed by anything I’ve tried so far. Their products work well for my frizzy, thin hair and are lightweight enough that even when I go overboard, it doesn’t ruin my hair.

Carol’s Daughter

Cruelty-free: Yes!
Confirmed by Cruelty-Free Kitty

A brand I was introduced to thanks to Influenster. I’m usually very hesitant when it comes to haircare because not everything has worked for me, but I was shocked when these products actually helped my hair! The body builder leave-in spray is probably my favorite and one I still use after I wash my hair! 😀

You can read my full review here.

I am literally ashamed that I only have tried THREE Black-owned beauty brands. It is true that Black-owned brands are severely under-represented in the beauty community, and that seriously needs to change! So one of my missions this year is to own at least seven brands before the year ends. This may mean I will have to buy the more affordable ones first and/or buy one product from each brand, but either way, the important thing is to support.

Brands I Haven’t Tried Yet

Next are brands I’m familiar with but haven’t tried, most likely due to price.

Beauty Bakerie

Cruelty-free: UNCONFIRMED!
Grey Area List in Cruelty-Free Kitty

Everything is just so cute!! I almost got products from this brand many times but had to take the most expensive items off my cart 😦 This brand will definitely be in my next Ulta haul.

Coloured Raine Cosmetics

Cruelty-free: Yes w/some Vegan products
Confirmed by Cruelty-Free Kitty & Logical Harmony

I’ve heard lots of amazing things about this brand, especially their eyeshadow palettes which look so stunning and perfect for beginners and pro’s alike. The pigment is also supposedly out-of-this-world so you know they’re doing it right!

* * *

Fenty Beauty

Cruelty-free: UNCONFIRMED
Grey Area Lists on Cruelty-Free Kitty & Logical Harmony

EVERYONE is familiar with Rihanna’s brand. The only thing stopping me from purchasing something from is the price tag. But someday, I will buy something. Maybe my birthday? I can dream for now..

* * *

Klarity Kosmetics

Cruelty-free: Yes!
Confirmed by Logical Harmony

Not to be confused with Karity, another makeup brand.

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things in regards to their formula and I cannot wait to get my hands on some of those shades!!!

* * *

The Lip Bar

Cruelty-free: Yes and Vegan; according to their site.
Not yet confirmed on Logical Harmony

Obviously more known for their lip products, which look amazing by the way! But I had heard of this brand previously, and I am excited for whenever I get to buy something. 🙂

* * *

Juvia’s Place

Cruelty-free: Yes w/some Vegan products.
Confirmed by Cruelty-Free Kitty
Pending on Logical Harmony

It seems EVERYONE who is into makeup owns at least one of their palettes. I haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet because I could never make up my mind about which palette I wanted more…

* * *

September Rose Cosmetics

Cruelty-free: Yes and Vegan!
Confirmed through their site.

I actually discovered this brand last year on IG. Happy accident! Their palettes look stunning and highly pigmented, and as you can see below, the color story is gorgeous!

Alright dolls, I hope you guys liked this post! As I mentioned earlier, this is not the full list. I will keep breaking it up if the posts are too long, so for now I cannot say for sure how long this mini series will be. For the moment, enjoy this short list and I hope all of you support Black-owned brands from here on out. Change starts with us.

In case you don’t follow my life blog, AyR Intake, I did share an important message in regards to the Black Lives Matter movement. I’m sorry if I have not addressed it here on this blog, but I assure you I have not been staying silent. If you’re still not on our side, I suggest you read my post. I have included petitions to sign, where to donate, and books to read.

Stand up. Speak up. Use your voice. #BlackLivesMatter

    1. i know there are so many brands out there, and it would be hard to make a HUGE list of all of them. i’m sure there are several i’m missing still, but since i am serious about purchasing more from black-owned brands, i figured i would make a list not only for myself, but for others who have the same budget as me 🙂 i would love to include pat mcgrath on my lists but i saw the insane prices and frankly i could never afford that LOL

  1. Oh my gosh I so want to try something from Beauty Bakerie! They’ve been on my list of brands to try forever, as have Coloured Raine. If you dive into Juvia’s Place you will not be disappointed! My favorite is The Saharan Palette, but The Warrior is awesome as well!

    1. Same here! 😀 I’ve been wanting their Salted Caramel Mocha lippie FOREVEEERRRRRRR!!!!
      Coloured Raine is another one I’ve wanted to try for many years but it’s always been a bit hard for me to buy only a few things from all these places but I think it’s time LOL
      As for Juvia’s place, I finally narrowed it down to Warrior 3 palette, I love the look of the neutral ones, but I love color more so I went for one of those instead 🙂

      1. They started carrying Colored Raine at Target but the selection is super small (at least at mine). My local Ulta just started carrying Beauty Bakerie right before COVID, so once it finally reopens I’d like to give it a look. The Juvia Place palettes are such great quality; you won’t be disappointed!

        1. Omg really??? I want to check it out for myself! Even if it is small, I’d like to try something out. I hope the Targets around here carry the brand.
          The Ulta here has carried it but I believe it’s been online only for a long time. I hadnt seen it in stores yet.

          1. My local Target has been carrying Coloured Raine for a few years now; same time they got Makeup Geek & The Lip Bar, I think. I haven’t been in a Target since before COVID and I’m sooo missing it! I loved my Target beauty shops, I have to go back. Ulta stocks so many amazing brands online that are not carried in stores, so I’m not surprised.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I’m still technically trying to finish my research because I came across some more brands and I wanted to look into them before I post my next one 🙂
      I hope you do* try Ace Beaute, their palettes and their formula are amazing. A bit on the pricier side but super worth it 🙂

  2. Rossy,
    This is so great of you to bring awareness to these Black owned make-up brands- they’re gorgeous and deserve the recognition as any other brand receives. Thank you for sharing, I’m going to go look some up and find a few things for myself 🙂

    1. Thank you! And I agree. I feel like now more than ever these brands deserve the spotlight. All the other brands have had years to shine, it’s time they step aside for a while and let others have a chance. I’m sure many of these brands are already super loved but not many people know of them.
      I hope you do! I got a few more posts coming up with many more brands 😀

    1. I just looked it up but was unable to find a USD conversion on the site for US customers. I will however still include it in my Part 3 post next Monday because I do* have UK followers 🙂 thanks for letting me know 🙂

  3. I definitely love Juvias and Fenty . But I would love to try Ace and Coloured Raine as I hear lots of good things about them . Plus I know Coloured Rain is pretty active on IG and seems to be very personable on her live feeds 🙂

    1. I’m hoping to get one product (at least) from each brand this year. Hopefully more if I can afford it, because I plan on buying from a lot of brands if they have stuff in stock lol
      I highly* recommend Ace Beaute, their stuff is a bit more expensive but so so worth it. CR just looks all-around amazing, I love what they got going 🙂

  4. I never do any kind of research on makeup so this mini series will def help me decide where I’m purchasing from next. That’s awesome Boxy has another Ace Beaute palette featured, can’t wait to see it when you get it! I’ve always wanted to try Fenty & Juvia’s Place, too!

    Thank you for sharing this, Rossy! ♡

    1. I’m glad this will be of help to you!

      I had to go back to read my post and I see how what I wrote sounds now, lol. What I meant was, that palette, Scarlet Dusk, was THE palette I subbed for back in March. 🤗

      Thanks for stopping by! 🤗🤗

  5. The only brands I’ve heard of is Briogeo and Beauty Bakerie! Which is so sad, and I barely have access to any of these brands because of my location! Only Briogeo which is available, and this really pushes me to go out and get some! I hope the surge in business for black owned brands forces them into the international market and dominating more of the ‘pie’! I’m a little confused at Fenty being considered a black-owned brand though since Rihanna isn’t African American but Barbadian?

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Yeah Briogeo is one of few who are well known internationally but it would be nice if more had the same attention.
      And I can see why that would be confusing, I believe her dad is half black, half white and her mom is black from south America. She considers herself mixed. She is* Barbadian because she was born there, but there is a lot of diversity in regards to her heritage. Apparently she also used to get bullied in school because she was much lighter than the rest of her peers, perhaps that’s why she chooses to identify as bi racial, rather than black

  6. I saw NikkiTutorials mention Ace Beaute in one of her YouTube videos and I’ve wanted to purchase since, I think I’m going to buy an eyeshadow palette this week but then also HOW CUTE is that palette from Klarity Kosmetics. Coloured Raine Cosmetics sounds great too and I’m totally intrigued by Juvia’s Place. So many exciting brands to try. Thank you for sharing!! xx

    1. Yes! I’m so glad she mentioned them and used one of their palettes, I love it 😀 I do hope you get one of their palettes, their formula is so goood i dont think you’ll be disappointed!
      I know! so many great brands 😀 i cannot wait to get my hands on some things 🙂 i was supposed to get a package from sephora but i bet they delivered it to someone else so im fuming at the moment that someone else got my package and never gave it to me 😦 i’ve always given people their own shit this is ridiculous, i hope they give me a rfund
