Clean Beauty with Beautycounter: Velvet Eyeshadow Palette & Sheer Lipstick Review & Swatches + 3 Looks

What a long ass title! But I had to do it.

Also, happy first of July!

I’m so excited to finally share this review with you guys. As you’ve read the title I’ll be reviewing both products I received in my Influenster VoxBox in April. I know, sorry it took me a long ass time to do this. I’m so very sorry..

I had never heard of Beautycounter until I received this box. When I told a friend of mine about these products, she told me she uses their stuff all the time! So let me tell you a bit about this brand before we get into the reviews.

Beautycounter: Clean Beauty

Their mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Formulate, advocate and educate is their motto for creating products. They have always been a clean brand, have the safest standard, and are constantly challenging the beauty industry. They have removed over 1,800 ingredients from their formulations (they call it The Never List), and they test every ingredient. You can learn more through their Social Mission Report to see how they are going beyond clean.

Beautycounter advocates for stricter guidelines and regulations to urge the industry to start moving away from using harmful ingredients. They are a Certified B Corporation and part of a global movement of brands that use their business for positive change. They support nonprofits that align with their mission as well as invest in a cleaner future in the search for safer ingredients. Sustainability is also a priority for them, they do their best to minimize their environmental impact of their products, packaging, and footprint.

All of that sounds incredible and amazing. Onto the reviews..

Sheer Lipstick

Product Details:

A beautiful kiss of color.

The ultimate everyday lipstick, this silky-smooth and ultra-moisturizing formula gives lips a sheer wash of color and a touch of polished sheen. It also includes jojoba esters and carnauba wax to condition and hydrate lips and no synthetic fragrance—just a sophisticated hint of natural vanilla. The shade range is designed to complement all skin tones, and the formula is super buildable—layer it on to intensify the color, or try it under Lip Gloss for a more lustrous look.

Size: 0.12 oz / 3.4 g
Price: $32.00 USD

This lipstick was super gorgeous! I got the shade Lily which is a luminous neutral pink. I was surprised at how pigmented it was despite being called “sheer”. Over the years I started to move away from bullet lipsticks and onto liquid ones, but this one reminded me how comfortable, lightweight and moisturizing these bullet lipsticks can be. I was able to pair this shade well with their Velvet Eyeshadow Palette and loved how it didn’t take the attention away from the eyes.

beautycounter_sheerlipstick3

Being that it is a moisturizing lipstick, it will* fade, transfer and get wiped off while eating, so it does need reapplication. Even so, wearing this lipstick is a pleasure and I do not mind reapplying. I love the shine it gives to my lips and apparently it doubles as a blush. Neat! Would recommend everyone to have one of these in their collection.

Velvet Eyeshadow Palette

beautycounter_velveteyeshadow_palette

Product Details:

Sun-drenched nudes and neutrals come together in a palette that’s anything but ordinary. Flattering to all skin tones, it features nine safer shades in matte and satin finishes, including a sparkling topper shade to take your look from day to night.

Beautycounter’s eyeshadow formula is specially designed for rich color payoff and long-wearing performance, without the questionable ingredients. It’s triple-milled to a precise, silky-smooth consistency and formulated with Butterpowder – an ingredient that boosts pigment and long-wear – so it lays down evenly and blends seamlessly. Includes removable mirror.

Size: 7.47 g / 0.27 oz
Price: $50.00 USD

Packaging & Cost Breakdown

I love how compact this palette is, perfect for travel! It’s cardboard packaging and has a removable mirror which is fab because you can recycle the packaging when you hit pan on all the shades without worrying about tossing the mirror along with it. So so unique and smart! Why don’t brands do this more often??

beautycounter_velveteyeshadow_palette2

This palette retails for $50.00 USD which is pretty high for a 9-pan palette with a net weight of 7.47 grams (or 0.27 oz). That brings the cost per pan to $5.55 USD and cost per gram $6.69 USD. This is much much higher than any other palette I have reviewed here on my blog. However, I can confidently say, it’s worth it.

Formula & Application

The formula is where this beautiful palette really shines! I am telling you guys, I was blown away by the easy application, seamless blending, buildability (not a word I know), high and rich pigmentation, and long-wearability, and they have little to no kickback or fallout. Absolutely incredible! The price highly reflects the quality and quality does not suffer one bit. In fact, I hardly found any flaws.

beautycounter_velveteyeshadow_palette3

The color story is gorgeous, and it has the perfect every day shades you will ever need in a neutral palette. At first I thought it was lacking a dark shade, but smokey looks can still be achieved with these shades. This is my perfect neutral, day to night palette.

I feel like for the longest time I was staying away from warm neutral palettes because I found them a bit boring. However, this palette completely changed the game for me. I see why it’s worth $50 USD and it’s not often I use makeup that wholly reflects its price with astonishing formulation. I truly think this palette is worth every penny.

Shade Breakdown & Swatches

Even though it’s a warm palette, it is so very unique in shades and formula, I have nothing like it. I have never seen such a pretty golden shade (Penny), and I have come across many; this one is my favorite of all time so far. I also cannot believe that the shades are triple-milled, you can truly feel the quality when you swatch them but more importantly, when you apply them to your eyes!

Makeup Looks

Despite only being 9 shades, I was able to create a wide range of looks ranging from natural, to every day, to smokey and slightly bold. This palette has my favorite kinds of neutrals; warm browns, burnt/orange and terracotta shades. Best of all, this palette is flattering to all skin tones.

My friend is friends with a Beautycounter consultant so I will definitely be asking her about her products later on when I have a bit of money to spend because I really do want to try their skincare. I am so on-board with clean beauty, but the only downside is I can barely afford them, lol.

I’d love to know if you’ve heard of this brand before and if so, which products have you tried? If you haven’t, would you consider purchasing from them?

  1. I’ve never heard of this brand but I really like their values! I need a new everyday eyeshadow palette (my love of bright reds and orange doesnt translate well to winter lol) so I’ll look this up! Loved your looks as well xx

    1. I hadn’t heard of them up until receiving these products either but now I’m also intrigued to see what else they have, they are just a bit pricier LOL
This palette honestly works for all skin tones which is amazing and they did such a good job with it 🙂

  2. You’re really selling this brand to me! Everything looks absolutely gorgeous and the quality seems to be there as well. I heard Beautycounter is doing an online pop-up shop with Sephora this month!

    1. I highly recommend it, honestly! The makeup quality is there from the moment you touch, to swatches, to applying it on your eyes. I hear their skincare is also really good but pricey as well!
And I believe I did see them on the site! So exciting!

          1. I received the palette through Influenster, so the only things I got were the palette and the lipstick. I am looking into the brand though to see what else they have, not everything costs a whole lot.

          2. Oh that’s right, you didn’t buy directly from the brand so you wouldn’t get samples with it. I heard they released a new foundation this year that has a lot of good reviews, but I can’t remember the name (super helpful, I know!).

          3. I might have seen the foundation, I just don’t remember the name either LOL.
But I spoke to the consultant, she said they don’t have samples for the general public, but she does* have some to send to me. She also told me beautycounter has a membership for $29 USD for a full year, and the benefits of it are 10% back to your account for each purchase. And that members get lots of deals, sales and other things. I think she also mentioned that when you become a member you get a limited time gift right now. Sounded tempting but I want to make sure that I would buy from them often throughout the year before committing to such thing LOL

  3. I love what this brand stands for, clean, healthy beauty and sustainability too. Goals for real!

The lipstick sounds absolutely gorgeous and I bet it would be so pretty as a blush too, I love the multi use benefits of this product ❤

As always totally obsessed with your makeup looks hun! The palette seems like a great staple for everyone to have in their collection and you just model it so beautifully ❤ I;m so obsessed with the Burgundy Terracotta look, hun that eyeliner is FLAWLESS!

& The golden penny look omg that picture of you is just the most beautiful. Obviously you look great in all the pics but that one you just look so sweet with your smile omgggg! I love! Pretty lady!

I would 100% consider buying from this brand in the future, I'd love to try the lipsticks for sure. Thanks so much for introducing this brand to me Rossy, I love discovering new brands through you and your blog!

    1. Same! I hope more brands take this approach too 🙂 we need more of this in the future 🙂

I unfortunately didn’t try it out as a brush because I had already created all the looks before I wrote my review and found out that I could* use it as such, haha maybe next time I pick it up 🙂 it seems like a great color for fall season 🙂

haha awww thanks *blush* i used to hate smiling in pictures, that day I must have been pretty happy with my makeup and/or had a really good day haha

if you could get anything from this brand, i would recommend the palette over the lipsticks for sure! it is universally flattering and honestly THE go-to palette for neutral/every day looks for me 🙂
