Physician’s Formula No Longer Cruelty-Free? — Murumuru Butter Bronzer & Blush Reviews

Did not think I would ever write a post like this buuuttt… Here I am.

Let’s just cut right to the chase, Physician’s Formula is no longer considered cruelty-free by Logical Harmony as of March 2020. She announced this on IG a few weeks back and I was a bit bummed about it as this is technically the second brand that decides to move in on mainland China in under a year, Wet n Wild having been the first last May. Apparently, photos of PF in some stores in mainland China surfaced last October 2019. Did they learn NOTHING from the scandal and backlash Wet n Wild got??

Logical Harmony tried to reach out to them to ask for more clarification but never got a response. It seems like many CF customers were trying to confirm their status on their IG comment section but they never replied and even some comments got deleted. The way they handled it was not great, and it is really sad to see a brand being removed from CF lists. Specially one which I felt was on the right path. They still have not addressed this in their social media channels so I will not be buying from this brand anymore. Such shady business, honestly!

Fun Fact: PF is a sister brand of WnW! Figures they would make the same moves and start selling in China..

I hope no one is taking this post the wrong way, spend your money however you see fit. Not everyone is on board with being CF-only, and that is fine. I am however, committing to not purchasing from brands who are not 100% CF, and I have been actively looking for brands to replace some non-CF brands I love.

With that out of the way, let me review these two products.

Murumuru Butter Blush

Product Details:

Murumuru Butter Blush has an ultra-luxurious formula, infused with Murumuru Butter, delivers a radiant Brazilian goddess glow! Moisturizing wonder features ultra-refined pearl and soft-focus pigments that smooth skin texture, brighten skin tone, and deliver a gorgeous blushing glow. Incredibly soft and ultra-creamy texture combines the best features of a powder and cream blush.

Skin-Loving Blend: Infused with a powerful blend of Murumuru Butter, Cupuacu Butter and Tucuma Butter, from the lush and nutrient-rich Amazon. Packed with essential fatty acids and pro-vitamins that soften, condition and moisturize skin, leaving it silky soft.

Features:

  • Hypoallergenic
  • Paraben Free
  • Gluten free
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Clinically tested
  • Oil-free
  • Mirror and applicator included

When I first bought this blush, there were only a few shades available, but the brand has expanded to include more. The shade I got was Vintage Rouge as the other they had available was a dark pink. I felt as though this shade would suit my skin tone better and I’m glad I went with this one.

The blush is creamy and buildable so I can use as much or as little and it will never make me look like a clown. It blends into my skin so easily and seamlessly and it gives me gorgeous and natural-looking sun-kissed cheeks. I noticed the scent is more pronounced in the blush, which might be due to the three butter-blend they used (Murumuru, Cupuacu, and Tucuma). In my opinion the scent is not strong or bothersome, it gives off those tropical vibes.

It does have a small compartment on the bottom that includes a mirror and an applicator that I do not use, as I prefer to use my face brushes to really blend it into my cheeks for an airbrushed effect. The retail price as listed in their site is $13.49 USD for 0.26 oz (7.5 grams), which is less than the bronzer in terms of net weight and packaging size. I believe the packaging also varies and the newer packaging looks different than this one.

Murumuru Butter Bronzer

Product Details:

An ultra-luxurious bronzer infused with Murumuru Butter, delivering a radiant Brazilian goddess glow! Moisturizing wonder features ultra-refined pearl and soft-focus pigments that smooth skin texture, brighten skin tone and deliver a gorgeous bronze finish.

Benefits:

  • Ultra-rich bronzer formula instantly melts into skin, sealing-in moisture to deliver instant and lasting hydration
  • Incredibly creamy and soft texture combines the best features of a powder and cream bronzer, to deliver a lit-from-within tropical glow unlike any other
  • Infused with a powerful blend of Murumuru Butter, Cupuacu Butter and Tucuma Butter, from the lush and nutrient-rich Amazon
  • Packed with essential fatty acids and pro-vitamins that soften, condition and moisturize skin, leaving it silky soft
  • Featuring unique sponge applicator specially designed to be used with creamy bronzer formula
  • Hypoallergenic, paraben free, gluten free, oil-free
  • Non-comedogenic, dermatologist approved

When this bronzer first came out, every single person was raving about it. A few months later I decided to pick it up and I was blown away by how silky smooth and creamy it was. It was easy to blend into my skin, it was buildable and it wasn’t too dark or orange on me. Yay!

When I bought it they only had two shades but it seems like they have added several shades to this one too. I got the shade Light Bronzer, which looks like the lightest one. It suits my skin tone perfectly, had I gotten a darker one I don’t think I would have liked it as much. Even so, it is buildable like I said, so I can apply as much or as little.

Similar to the blush, this bronzer also has soft-focus pigments that smooths my skin texture and gives a natural bronze finish. It also has that same three butter-blend (Murumuru, Cupuacu, and Tucuma). The details claim this bronzer seals-in moisture, and while I cannot check that, I can* say it does not dry out my skin at all.

Like the blush, there is a small compartment underneath with a mirror and applicator. I don’t use the applicator because I prefer brushes. The retail price as listed in their site is $15.00 USD for 0.38 oz (11 grams). Again, the bronzer is bigger in packaging and net weight. Packaging also varies as they have newer packaging.

I really love both of these products and highly recommend them to beginners and experts alike. They are so easy to use, creamy, buildable, blend like a dream, and the smell heavenly! I honestly could not find anything I did not like about these products, I have absolutely no idea what I will do when I hit pan!

I really wish brands could be a bit more conscious about animal cruelty but as consumers, we vote with our money. On some good news, China will finally remove mandatory pre-market animal testing for foreign “ordinary” cosmetics! It’s a step in the right direction, but many brands are still at risk for post-market animal testing. To learn more, visit Cruelty-Free Kitty.

  1. While I’m not actively cruelty-free is still sad to see brands taking a step back from being cruelty-free. This position for me is very tricky because I love animals and seeing some of the things brands do makes me sick. I still buy from them but I’m hoping they’ll make the change soon

    1. I don’t think PF will back out of their decision, especially if they’ve been selling there since last October. However, it seems China will be taking a step towards the right direction when it comes to animal testing for foreign ordinary cosmetics. Still, those brands risk post-market testing. Hopefully we have a fully CF system in the future. 🙂

  2. You know I’m obsessed with my Butter Bronzer. It’s my absolute favorite in my collection, hands down, so this is a bummer! The fact that PF hasn’t come out and addressed it yet (AND deleted comments!) is ridiculous. Try the Fenty bronzers when yours runs out; it’s not completely a dupe for the PF but it’s a beautiful, beautiful formula.

    1. I know I was so bummed too! And just when I had found a nice affordable vitamin c product 😦
I have heard wonderful things about the Fenty bronzers, the cream ones, so eventually I will try it 🙂

  3. This is such disappointing news, if anything, the brands should be going the other way and switching to cruelty free, not switching from cruelty free to cruelty 😦 so upsetting. Especially because these products sound really good. I’ll be honest, I don’t always buy Cruelty Free but I do prefer too. With my line of work in the past, I haven’t been able to just pick and choose where I work based on whether it’s a cruelty free brand or not you know, so I have used their products etc but I’m definitely more aware of what I’m buying as much as possible. Your blog is a great help when it comes to discovering cruelty free brands and alternatives to thank you for all that you do ❤

    1. Agreed. I was really bummed out about this one, especially because they have always made really amazing high-quality products for a good price…
I think it’s great that even though you’re not fully committed, you are still trying and that’s such a great step 😀 no one is telling people to get rid of their non-CF products, but rather, once you finish them up, you have the option of buying CF 🙂
I unerstand a lot of the brands I speak of are not yet available there in the UK due to outrages fees for shipping and what not, but I do hope that when you come back to the US, you can treat yourself to brands that are available here 🙂

  4. I hate that they aren’t CF anymore, what a bad decision on their part! I just started using my butter bronzer/blush palette and I loved it, so this news makes me very sad.
I’m glad you at least love the products that you do have, hopefully you can find a good CF replacement!

        1. We really do! Shame they’re starting to move away from CF status..
I keep hearing how great the Fenty blushers and bronzers are, I almost just want to splurge but not before I hit pan on a few of the ones I already own LOL I don’t need that many and I’m pretty sure I will need to downsize again xD

  5. This makes me so sad because I genuinely loved this bronzer. The smell just makes me feel so nostalgic. 😀 Thanks for telling us about this anyway! Guess I’ll just need to look for new brands!I’d go for Fenty but they’re really pricy…

    1. I really love this bronzer too, in fact it is one of my favorites I have ever used. I’ve heard Fenty’s is also really good but from what I’ve researched, its still not clear if it’s truly CF or not 😪 I wish there was more transparency
