One Brand Focus & Review — Love Beauty and Planet Murumuru Butter & Rose Collection

Happy Pink Wednesday!

I am here to do another One Brand Focus because it has been quite a while since I did an “official” one. Today I will be talking about Love Beauty & Planet and a few products from their Murumuru Butter & Rose Collection.

From this collection I only grabbed a few to try: the shampoo and conditioner, a hair masque and a body scrub. They do have other products under this collection, as well as several other collections with different scents.

Before we start, I have a few quick notes:

Cruelty-Free Status

I have already published a full post in regards to this brand and their cruelty-free status. Despite the fact that their labels say they are cruelty-free, I do not consider them cruelty-free after doing lots of research. Feel free to check out that post to read it in full so you can make a decision for yourself.

Benefits of Murumuru Butter

Most of the products here with the exception of the body scrub are formulated with murumuru butter, which is a lot like coconut oil. I actually reviewed the Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Blush & Bronzer together not too long ago, and if you know about murumuru butter, you know it has a lot of benefits for hair and skin.

For hair care, murumuru provides rich moisturization and softens while locking in moisture. That helps keep your hair shiny and healthy. The butter also helps restore hair and maintain elasticity, helping to boost color.

Key benefits for both hair and skin:

Source: Teadora

  • Helps retain moisture in both skin and hair when applied
  • Keeps hair and skin hydrated
  • Highly anti-oxidative, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic
  • Extremely moisturizing and gentle enough for the most sensitive skin
  • Absorbs quickly, to the deeper layers of skin
  • Restores skin elasticity
  • Rich emollient to treat dry and cracked skin, as well as conditions such as psoriasis and eczema
  • Restores natural shine and softness of hair, adding gloss
  • Improves hair flexibility, making dry or frizzy hair more manageable (particularly beneficial for Afro-ethnic hair care regimens)
  • Treats dry or damaged hair

I’m including this information because this will be important when I talk about the products that include murumuru butter as an ingredient.

Price: $7.99 USD at Target / $8.99 USD at Ulta each
Size: 13.5 fl oz / 400 mL each

My first impressions of these products were “holy shit, these are strongly scented”. That was such a huge turn-off. I am the kind of person that doesn’t mind scent so long as it’s not too overpowering. This felt like it was more scent than benefits to my hair, to be honest. Luckily for me, the scent did not linger after it was rinsed off. My hair did retain some of the scent but nothing that I could smell unless I brought my hair up to my nose.

As mentioned, these do contain murumuru butter as an ingredient, and while my hair did feel nourished, hydrated, and shiny, I did not notice other benefits. For one, it didn’t help maintain my frizz and after continued use over the span of several months, I concluded that it made my hair more unmanageable. Even the benefits of murumuru butter are not enough for me to keep repurchasing these.

While using the conditioner, I noticed it didn’t help untangle my hair, in fact it made it worse! I had knots every single day and that is the first sign that the conditioner doesn’t work for my hair. It doesn’t specify if it’s for all hair types, but I have fine, wavy, frizzy hair. In all honesty, I do not recommend these at all. The scent is more repulsive than I thought it would be and they made styling my hair harder.

My hair was also kind of flat when I used these products so I’m convinced either one or both weighed my hair down. I was surprised considering their Coconut Water & Mimosa shampoo and conditioner worked fine. I think the only pro of the shampoo is that it’s sulfate free so it can be used on color-treated hair.

Murumuru Butter & Rose
2 Minute Magic Masque

Product Details:

Keep your hair vibrant and shiny. This light treatment, infused with Amazonian murumuru butter, moisturizes for a healthy looking gloss. Also experience a fragrant kiss of nature and juicy freshness from the handpicked Bulgarian rose petal.

Love Beauty and Planet 2 Minute Magic Masque delivers a nourishing treatment that leaves your hair feeling recharged, healthy looking, and ready to take on the day.

What’s Good About It?

97% Naturally Derived, Cruelty-free, Vegan, Ethically Sourced Extract, 100% Recycled Bottles, Dye-free, Paraben-free, With Coconut Oil, Sustainably Sourced Extract

Price: $2.49 – $3.49 USD
Net weight: 1.5 oz / 43 g

Just like the shampoo and conditioner, I didn’t notice anything special from this one. In fact, I felt like this one was similar to their conditioner. I did notice my hair felt smooth and was untangled when I applied it and left it on my hair for 2 minutes, but once I washed it out, my hair was a mess: tangled, still frizzy, and unmanageable.

It is strongly scented like the shampoo and conditioner, and the murumuru butter only aids the nourishing and hydration. I feel like since it’s closer to coconut oil, it weighs my hair down rather than help it? I don’t know. It’s another strong pass for me. Do not recommend it at all. HASK has a better hair masque.

Net weight: 9.17 oz / 260 g

This seems to be the only scrub they have on their site, which is a shame because I would have loved to try a different scent. Out of all the products here, this one is by far my favorite. It is strongly scented as well (what’s new?) but I did enjoy the exfoliation. The texture feels thick and creamy and doesn’t feel too rough. I wish I would have gotten a texture shot before I finished it, sorry!

Did I like it? Yes.
Would I repurchase? No, brand is not truly CF.

I really wish I would have liked the haircare products more considering I liked their concentrated formulas that I reviewed a while back.

  1. ‘The scent is more repulsive than I thought it would’ – that made me chuckle Rossy, but what a shame these products weren’t very good 😦 How disappointing, before getting into the reviews by the introduction & learning about the murumuru butter I was expecting these products to be really good, well thanks for letting us know and for the honest review! ❤

    1. LOL thank you! Sometimes some scent are too much even for me, a person who isn’t as bothered with scents, usually lol.
I am also pretty disappointed they didn’t work out, but I guess it was for the best considering they are a bit shady when it comes to their CF status. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

      1. I agree!!! I do like a scent sometimes with most body care, would probably prefer to leave it when it comes to face though but not something I’ve ever really thought too much about? And yes that is so true, at least they’re not products you’re absolutely in love with but feel guilty about / can’t buy again because of their shady status! xx
