I have shared information about the brand in my ‘Clean Beauty with Beautycounter’ reviews, where I shared my thoughts about their Velvet Eyeshadow Palette and their Sheer Lipstick, which I will be using for this post. I am more than happy to talk about them again in case you’re new around here or need a refresher on the brand.

NOTE: I will be sharing more posts about this brand throughout the duration of this pop-up, here on my blog. Follow me on Instagram as there will be a take-over!!

Beautycounter: Advocates for Cleaner Beauty

Their motto is:
“Formulate, advocate and educate”.

Why?
Because beauty should be good for you.

They are a clean brand since the very beginning and have the safest standards. Beautycounter restricts over 1,800 ingredients from being used in their formulas. The US, Canada, and EU restrict 30, 600, and 1,400, respectively.Ā  Not only are they investing in a cleaner future in the search for safer ingredients, sustainability is also one of their priorities in order to minimize their environmental footprinting.

Read their mission to learn more.

Beautycounter Takes Action:

The U.S. has not passed a major federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938, and has only banned or restricted 30 ingredients. Meanwhile, the European Union has banned or restricted 1,400 ingredients from personal care products!

One of my favorite things about Beautycounter is the work they are doing. They have worked with lawmakers to ensure consumer safety with ingredient review, labeling and recalls for products that cause harm. Consultants also host meetings with Members of Congress advocating for updates to laws governing personal care products.

Here’s how you canĀ join Beautycounter’s movement to make your voice heard:

Beautycounter expanded into Canada in 2016 and they have advocated for reform of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). Their Consultants have hosted District Meetings with Members of Parliament to elevate issues like codifying the list of prohibited ingredients, prohibiting phthalates from being used in cosmetics and closing the fragrance loophole.

Alright, those are a few ways Beautycounter is making a difference. Now that you know a bit more about this brand and what they stand for, time for me to show you two looks.

Day-time Makeup Look

Here’s how to get this fresh and simple look:

STEPS:

  1. Follow your own routine with brows and skin prep, if using foundation. I only applied primer on my face, concealer and setting powder to even out my skin.
  2. Apply eyeshadow primer of choice and use the shade Suede and apply all over the crease and outer corner of the eye.
  3. With finger or brush, use the shade Sahara and apply onto 2/3 of the lid. Go back with Suede to diffuse if necessary, and apply mascara.
  4. For blush, I used their Sheer Lipstick in the shade Lily. Using my finger, I dabbed the lipstick onto my cheeks and tapped it all over to blend out. This lipstick is moisturizing so it blends out easily.
  5. To highlight: use the shade Ivory and apply to inner corners of eyes, brow bones, cheeks, nose, and cupid’s bow. Spritz setting spray onto brush if you want more luminosity.
  6. For lips, I used the Sheer Lipstick in Lily and lightly tapped it on my lips for a subtle wash of color.

I always like to say less is more, and I am happy to say that I used less than 10 products for this look. I ended up using the eyeshadow palette for my eyes and to highlight my face and their lipstick for my lips as well as blush. The great thing is that their eyeshadow palette is universally flattering so anyone can wear this!

Night-time Makeup Look

For this look, I am adding onto my day-time look. Here’s how to achieve this:

STEPS:

  1. Use the shade Sienna and apply onto crease, following where you applied Suede. Apply onto lower lashline too.
  2. Go back and apply Suede to diffuse Sienna where necessary.
  3. Use the shade Sable and apply to the outer corner and outer lower lashline. Continue building it up and blending it to desired darkness for a smokey effect.
  4. Using a flat brush, use the shade Copper and apply it over Sahara.
  5. For blush, I used their Sheer Lipstick in the shade Lily.Ā I applied more of the lipstick onto my cheeks until I reached the desired pigment.
  6. To highlight: I used the shade Ivory again with a spritz of setting spray for more intensity.
  7. For lips, I swiped the Sheer Lipstick in Lily on my lips to get the true pigment.
  8. Optional: you can add eyeliner or falsies for a more dramatic effect. I have been loving minimal makeup lately and totally love it for the summer. This is also more doable for beginners without the liner and falsies.

I really love how this look turned out. I had used the shade Penny in the past for a smokey look like this and I resisted the urge to use it again. I love this look because it looks much brighter while also giving you the smokey look. I also really like using the shade Ivory as a highlight. It’s simply gorgeous and makes my skin glowy. I was happy I could get away with using the lipstick as a blush too. Win!!

  1. I love hearing “simple” when it comes to make up looks lol I need to learn to be more experimental! But your night time look is so sweet and subtle and totally up my ally! I will say that it took me a while to be more proactive into looking at ingredients, I’ve been doing that way more nowadays but its definitely a “I wish I knew then what I know now” I think it would’ve helped my skin back in the day to know what I was putting on my face and to take it one step further, how it can or may hurt the environment/animals etc. Great share, as always ā¤

    1. I’ve been all about simple these days. Which kind of breaks my heart at the same time because I’m not playing with color but it’s a nice welcome change šŸ™‚ it doesn’t require me to overthink which colors I want to use lol

Yeah it’s hard reminding oneself to take a look at the label. Even I forget sometimes. But it is not too late to start doing so and start giving your skin yummy ingredients to nourish it šŸ™‚

Definitely, I think it’s very important now a days to really do our research and see how the beauty industry is impacting the environment because it is* one of the biggest industries and it’s only growing bigger.

Thanks for commenting doll! Have a lovely day!

      1. Oh my god, yes, it’s SO frustrating with photos! Everything for me looks really dulled down, even when I’m wearing a brighter or bolder color. But I always use natural light, and I don’t even use a real camera so there you go!

        1. I always use natural light too and I’ve been using my phone for my makeup photos. Whenever I used my camera I would have to edit the exposure, highlights and shadows LOL
With my phone, even though I don’t have the highest quality, the photos look decent and I don’t have to edit them at all šŸ™‚

          1. I do a bit of editing with my camera photos, but nothing that detailed. I used Adobe Lightroom; I still don’t really know what I’m doing with it though!
