Physician’s Formula Skin Booster Vitamin Shot Brightening Serum Review

Hello again!

I have been feeling very productive lately and really wanting to get back into blogging, so I have been making a huge effort into working on several posts on my free time and scheduling them in advance, so expect to see more from me these upcoming weeks from both of my blogs. 🙂

For today’s post I wanted to share an affordable, drugstore alternative to high-end vitamin C serums. Vitamin C serums have become part of my routine ever since I tried the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum about two years ago, thanks to a sample in a Play! by Sephora beauty box.

If you’ve been following me for a while this year, you might remember my Physician’s Formula Is No Longer Cruelty-Free post.

I stand by my decision to not purchase from them anymore, but my sister left me her bottle since it did not end up working out for her. More on this later. But basically, I will not be actively purchasing from this brand anymore, but I know some people are not CF, so I am simply here to give you guys my thoughts on this product.

Before trying the Ole Henrinksen Truth Serum, I was struggling with dark spots and severe acne. I also had tried retinol but I wanted to use retinol sparingly since I saw such a huge difference with only the truth serum. I could not afford such an expensive product so I set out to find something more affordable and test it against my breakouts in hopes of controlling my breakouts and keeping my skin relatively clear. That’s not to say I don’t get breakouts, I do, mostly hormonal but aside from that, I have been very happy for over a year because my skin has never looked good for this long.

I use this serum every morning and night. I stopped using retinol when I ran out, and I have found that this one works just as well without the sensitivity. After using this for nearly two months, I started seeing a huge change in the way my skin looked. It takes a long time to truly see a change when it comes to skincare, so I do not believe testing something in a week or two is truly testing a product.

I am happy to tell you guys that after finishing my first bottle, my skin started looking so much better. It was clear, I had minimal breakouts, my complexion brightened, it looked youthful, and awake. I do have texture in my skin and some* dark spots from my hormonal acne, but overall, I feel happy in my skin and I have been able to feel free in my bare skin and have been skipping foundation altogether.

Even though I got such great results from this serum, I do want to warn those with sensitive skin, that this product may not be for you. I have normal/combo, acne prone skin, but so does my sister. However, when I recommended this to my sister, she did not have the same effect. Her skin is more sensitive than mine, she suffered a breakout, so she stopped using it immediately and ended up leaving it for me. Anyway, long story short, if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to do a patch test prior to using. Perhaps it may be better to buy more expensive skincare to be safe, but I also think that there are some affordable options too, like The Ordinary, which I have yet to try myself.

I enjoyed testing this product and was pleased with the results but now I am back to square one in finding another affordable vitamin C serum. It’s going to take lots and lots of research to make sure I buy CF. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated, so thanks in advance. 🙂

        1. The Truth Serum from Ole Henriksen was really nice but it’s pricey, they do sell in Sephora. There was another but I don’t remember the name, the truth serum is the one I loved the most. I have tried products like day creams which also have vitamin C but I’m not sure they sell over there? Anyway, the brand is called Bliss, they have a vitamin C cream. Another alternative I’ve heard of is squalane, which The Ordinary has, as well as Biossance (pricey, at Sephora) — I’ve tried the Biossance one and it is sooooo good.

    1. thanks so much 🙂 I know I’m bummed out too because PF is a good brand, but now that it’s owned by the same company as WnW, figures they would make a move into mainland China…. 😦
If you have any other recommendations for vitamin C serums that you’ve tried, also CF, I’d love to get those from you 🙂 I’m running out of the bottle my sister left me so I need to find something to replace it LOL

      1. well I tried and loved the Paula’s Choice one. It’s not really cheap (nor expensive) but it’s at a good price for the great formula. I also loved the OleHenriksen but that one is expensive and too fragrant. It worked really well on me though

  1. I’m about to start testing my first vitamin C product (a wash-off mask), and I’m super excited! I think it’s great this one is so affordable and it worked out well for you. Not so sure it would work for me since I do have sensitive skin from time to time.

    1. Yeah I probably wouldn’t recommend it to those with sensitive skin, as much as I liked it lol.
I cannot wait to see what product you’re using and how you like it. i seriously need to replace this one before I run out LOL

  2. Rossy, this sounds brilliant but I massively stand by your decision not to rebuy! You could always try the C-Firma serum by drunk elephant – I use it and it’s a little pricey, but it works AMAZINGLY and is cruelty free 🙂 xx

    1. I really love it and I love how affordable it is, but yeah, need to buy CF lol. I have heard of the DE one as well, but it is* pricey. So I’m still looking into some that are more affordable, like Pacifica has one I think, as well as Derma-e which I believe both have vegan products and they’re mid-range. So I’m going to work my way up in price until I find one that I absolutely love 🙂

  3. After 25 years I am trying to make a better effort to take care of my skin. I’m currently searching for something to clear away the dark spots from past acne and I’m only using Thayer’s facial toner a few times a day and some face wash from Kroger. I honestly don’t know the difference between any of the skincare stuff, so I need to do more research. I am proud of buying a facial mask with tea tree oil in it! I read that that oil helps. Thanks for letting me know about this brand! I have really sensitive skin so I have to be careful with what I use too, but I’ll definitely research for cruelty-free products before buying.

    1. I say the sooner you start taking care of your skin the better. 🙂 and it’s great that you’ve started and are doing research 🙂 and yes, tea tree is great for acne, but do use it sparingly, since it’s an essential oil, you don’t want to use too much because it could have the opposite effect and irritate your skin, since you do have sensitive skin 🙂
as for scarring and dark spots from acne, retinol and vitamin c are great for those, but make sure you use products with a low concentration to start.
