May 2019 Boxycharm Review

Hello dolls!

Here I am with kind of a “bonus” post. I mentioned in yesterday’s post that I will have an actual schedule for both my blog and my Youtube (Tuesday’s & Thursday’s, with bonus content on Wednesday’s if I have any).

I had ditched my schedule and then I became so disorganized and couldn’t actually find the time to work on my posts and schedule them in advance. So while I do have to plan ahead, I think that’s a lot better for me than doing things last minute (natural procrastinator here). This new decision already seems better, we’ll see how well I can keep up with it! πŸ™‚

Anyway, I do have my May 2019 Boxycharm review here for all of you! As always, you don’t have to read the entire post, so feel free to scroll past whatever product interests you the most. πŸ™‚

Gentlebubble Cleanser

Quick Description & Claims:

Gentle, but makeup it bubbly! This daily conditioning gel cleanser gently but effectively cleanses skin and dissolves makeup. Oat amino acids condition while the vegan formula with apple extract, vitamin E, and green tea extract bubbles up to deep clean and remove impurities. Soap, fragrance, and SLS/SLES-free. All skin types approved.

Mini Product Review:

I really love the packaging, I think it’s stunning! I like that they have made a vegan formula, all the ingredients sound super amazing. The cleanser itself does feel nice on the skin, however it feels a bit thicker than I anticipated for a “gel cleanser”. Typically for me, gel cleansers tend to be more lightweight and thinner in consistency. It felt more like a cream cleanser and therefore will be keeping it for the colder months.

I do think 5oz of product is super generous for the price, because you don’t need that much anyway so it will definitely last you quite a while. Another thing I wanted to mention was that it wasn’t bubbly at all. It was regular lather but not super rich and bubbly as I would have expected from a product that is marketed as “bubbly”.

Regardless of all that, I do think this is a goodΒ product, it’s definitely a gentleΒ formula, but in my opinion, it feels to heavy on my skin to be used during the summer.

Cruelty Free? No, available for sale in mainland China.

Mellow Cosmetics
Brow Definer in Taupe

Quick Description & Claims:

The non-greasy, easy glide formula in your new Mellow Cosmetics Brow Definer brow pencil is about to revolutionize your brow game. The triangular tip makes for easy hairlike strokes and the long lasting formula ensures your brows won’t budge.

Mini Product Review:

I’m not a fan of the triangular tip. I know they intended for it to be super easy to apply, but I don’t think it is. Personally, after trying the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil, I think the flat tips are way better. In order to get hairlike strokes you have to use the “top” of the triangular tip ( ^ ). The bottom ended up losing its shape so it was best to use it for filling in the brows.

I do like the non-greasy formula for the summer. I would say it does last quite a bit as well, so that’s nice. The first time I used it, I was able to do my brows so quick, but after using it more, I felt like it took me a bit longer to get the hang of it, because it lost its shape. I still struggle with it, and I feel like it takes me longer to do my brows using these kinds of brow pencils.

Overall, I’d say it’s good.Β I like that this shade matched me quite well. If you like non-greasy formulas, this one’s for you. However, if you’re like me and prefer flat tips, don’t even bother with it.

Cruelty Free? Yes! And 100% Vegan!

Ciate London
Eye Lustre Creme Eyeshadow

Quick Description & Claims:

Your new Ciate London’s Eye Lustre will help you create long-lasting, shimmering eye shadow looks. The metallic, glittering liquid shadow can be swiped on for full coverage lustre, blended out for sheer sparkle or applied over any eyeshadow as a topper.

Mini Product Review:

I usually don’t like creme or liquid shadows, I just don’t reach for them. But after seeing the tube, I had super high hopes for it because the shade looks GORGEOUS!

It swatches nicely, super reflective; you can see the strong gold reflects/undertones, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to see much of the purple color I was hoping for. I feel like the gold reflects are so strong they take away from the lovely shade.

I can’t swipe it on with my finger because it kind of takes away most of the product, leaving me with only the gold shimmer. It literally looks like nothing. And I also can’t buildΒ it up because too much looks too cakey and/or it will crease. Even a small amount creased on me, even though I used a primer underneath.

I did try it on top of another eyeshadow, this look:

READ: LOOKBOOK β€” 3 Looks Using PÜR The Complexion Authority Festival Pressed Pigment Palette

As you can see, it didn’t help the purple shadow underneath at all. I didn’t like that the purple tones in the creme shadow didn’t show up. I just saw gold reflects/shimmers and that’s not what I wanted.

Overall, I’d say this is not the product for me. I didn’t like it. It seemed too much trouble to get right, and I was only able to see the purple shift if I turned away from the light. I just think the gold shimmer in the creme shadow is WAY too strong and overpowers the purple color that you see in the tube.

Cruelty Free? Yes! Has some vegan products available.

Alamar Cosmetics
Colorette Blush Trio in Medium Tan

Quick Description & Claims:

Get your blush on with your new Alamar Cosmetics Colorette Blush Trio. Formulated to glide effortlessly over your cheeks, this buttery smooth, highly pigmented and completely vegan formula delivers a sun-kissed flush without the damage of the rays.

Mini Product Review:

This blush trio is GORGEOUS! I typically don’t like face palettes because I don’t reach for them, I usually use my singles more. BUT, this palette was the best! Super pigmented, glides on easily, it’s buildable, feels super buttery smooth! I can go on forever! It’s just so good. I haven’t been disappointed by Alamar Cosmetics yet. Keep the amazing formula coming!

One thing I did notice is that if you dip your brush in the pan a bit harshly, you WILL get loads of kickback. So be gentle! A little goes a long way! Anyway, I’m super impressed with this blush trio, super amazing, love the shades! Still want to play around with this palette some more and maybe mix some shades.

Cruelty Free? Yes!

Dose of Colors
Liquid Matte Lipstick in Coral Crush

Quick Description & Claims:

Your new Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick has a velvety, high-fashion matte finish which envelops lips in rich, long-wearing color. It applies as a creamy liquid, but after a few minutes it dries to an ultra comfortable matte finish.

Mini Product Review:

Ah yasss!! This lipstick was my favorite in this box! Perfect shade for summer, super pigmented, definitely very comfortable! This lipstick is very vibrant and rich in color, I had never tried Dose of Colors so I’m happy I got one and now I totally understand the hype around their lipsticks! They are totally worth the $18 !!

I only needed one swipe for full coverage which was amazing! I usually have trouble with the lighter shades but this one was absolutely perfect! If you guys haven’t tried these lipsticks, and you’re a fan of liquid mattes, BUY ONE! Any shade! You will love it!

Cruelty Free? Yes!

I think the value of this box was pretty good! Not as high as other boxes, but the quality of the products makes up for it! Love it!

I know I usually have MOTDs if I have many products available to me to do a “full face”. But I only have that MOTD from my unboxing video. for those of you who are interested in seeing all the products on my face.

But anyway, here are the swatches for everything. Love how pigmented everything is, but you’ve already seen above that the creme eyeshadow isn’t my favorite.

Loved how well the products went together this month! ❀

I really did love the products in this box. I have been reaching for a few of these a lot and will most likely keep reaching for them this summer. I might end up including some of these in my favorites, who knows, we’ll see! πŸ™‚

  1. Oh no, I had such high hopes for that creme eyeshadow, it looks so pretty in the packaging 😦 it’s a shame the product didn’t work the way you’d have liked it!

The face / blush palette sounds great though! I know what you mean about single face products, I tend to buy them more than palettes too when it comes to face although having said that I do have a couple of face palettes which I chose to buy (blusher being one of them). I’m loving all the cruelty free products (except the glamglow of course)!

The lipstick looks beautiful and sounds wonderful, I will definitely have to try this brand. I love the colour too!

    1. I did too!! It was too good to be true after all!! Shame! I was hoping for the purple to be popping lol.
I have been reaching for this blush palette lately and love it mainly for the peach shade. But I’m sure I can use it all year round as the season changes. Maybe I can even mix them together and create another shade haha
The lipstick was my favorite!!!! I would love more from this brand!

  2. Loved reading your review of the products!! I haven’t had my Boxycharm in a long time. I had a lot of problems with damaged products from them so I stopped my subscription. The cream/liquid eye shadow seems like a hassle! I also don’t care for them lol

    1. Thanks so much doll!
And that really sucks! I personally havent had a problem with BC in any way but you’re not the first to say that about damaged products, I’m so sorry that you were one of those affected πŸ˜₯
They’re such a great subscription in my opinion but they do need to take those complaints seriously.
And yeah I dont think I’ll bother with creme shadows after this one 🀣

  3. Ooo I love a bit of glam glow! I haven’t tried this cleanser but I have been eyeing it up. I kind of like that it’s thicker, I prefer that kind of consistency. My skin is dry so I love the thicker luxurious stuff. Sounds like a good box xx

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I thought it was ok. I have other cleansers I like better lol. I prefer the thicker ones for the colder months because that’s when I get dry skin lol.
This was a really good box! It hasnt been like that for a while.

  4. Interesting mix of products. 😍 Glam Glow products are usually good, but pricey. Happy this cleanser was not that expensive. The cream rose gold eye shadow looks like a challenge, but you pulled it off nicely. xx

  5. That coral lipstick is so pretty!! I wish I had gotten that instead of my lipgloss that tasted and smelled like crayons…

I totally missed that the glamglow cleanser says it’s a gel cleanser, it’s definitely not a gel! More of a cream as you said. I’m glad that you got at least a few products in the box that you liked even if they weren’t all hits.

    1. I know I love it!! One of my favorite products in this box!
And I’m sorry you got such a crappy lip gloss!
Yeah definitely not a gel cleanser for this one lol. Saving it for later. 😁
And yeah it was an overall amazing box, aside from the creme shadow which I wont bother with anymore.

          1. I checked them out and I’m not so sure about this box. I have seen the palette before in other boxes,.they seem to be “recycling” a lot of products..

          2. At least the eyeshadow palette I’ve seen in a previous box, but they will have an Elemis mask which I’m hoping I get. I think I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get the mask and instead get the palette, as pretty as the palette looks LOL

          3. I would choose Elemis 100%! I’ve only tried one of their products before and I loved it. Then I found out it was close to $100 so I didn’t repurchase. I hope your box is good!

  6. That’s awesome that there are becoming more and more vegan options available for products!! That purple WORKS girl. Seriously soo pretty. Thanks for the review- hope you are having a good week- any big plans for the weekend?

    1. I know I love it! The perspective of people and brands are changing in general.
You mean the purple makeup look? Sadly the shade underneath the creme shadow looked better than the creme shadow itself lol.
And I hope you are having an amazing week as well. We actually did have a mini vacation over the weekend, got back home yesterday. Still wondering if I should do a post because I didnt take many pictures lol.

        1. Lol ok! I’ll be sure to get the photos together for a post sometime next week then πŸ€—
And I can hardly call it a vacation because we drove for the most part, but we went to WA to visit a friend because she invited me to an event and I met a celebrity chef too lol and from there we headed to the Oregon coast to stay the night and part of the next day. So it was very very short but also super fun not having any other responsibilities for a day or two lol.

  7. First of, your review is so beautifully written and photographed! I really enjoyed reading this! The GlamGlow cleanser looks so pretty but what did you mean when you said its too heavy? Do you think its good when you dont want a product that strips? That ciate shadow looks WOW, too bad its so meek. And that blush palette is so pretty! I love how this box kinda has a bright summer-y theme! ❀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! πŸ™‚
What I meant by the cleanser feeling too heavy was that it is marketed as a gel cleanser, which are typically much MUCH lighter and thinner in consistency, but this one felt more like a cream cleaser (which tend to be a bit thicker and creamier). Cream cleansers are best used for winter because they hydrate the skin without stripping it as much, if that makes sense. I don’t think this one strips the skin from its natural oils etc, but it does feel too thick to be used for the summer. In the summer I personally just want to use lighter products that absorb quick into the skin without feeling too oily. Hope that explains it a bit.
The creme shadow was such a huge letdown but I think the blush palette and the lipstick made up for it lol. πŸ™‚

      1. Ahhh okay! Hmmm, I’ve never spent that much on a face wash before but now I’m contemplating! Yeah! Luckil you had a few “saving” pieces! Hehe! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Honestly I dont know that I could spend that much on skincare either so its great that I’m getting all of these products through a subscription lol. I tend to go for drugstore skincare and I have noticed I may like those a bit better than the higher end ones so that might be a place worth looking at to start for you. I can recommend a bunch 🀣🀣

          1. I’d highly recommend elf cosmetics skincare. I have their Daily Face Cleanser, Exfoliating Scrub, Night Cream, Illuminating Eye Cream, and their Daily Hydration Moisturizer. I wanted to try their serum too but couldn’t find the one I wanted in stock at Ulta.
For toner, the Thayer’s Rose Toner they sell it at Target, and the big bottle is SO affordable! I’ve been using it for a little over 6 months and I’m still not done with it! Another blogger recommended it to me too and it’s the best one I’ve tried so far. Mario Badescu’s facial sprays are also super good for refreshing the skin a bit. Also, a new brand that I recently found, Bliss, they’re really underrated, I know they sell their stuff at Ulta and Target, they seem to be pretty affordable I just couldn’t pick up lots of stuff because I already have so many moisturizers and masks.

            Liked by 1 person

          2. Omg, thank you so much for reccommeding all this, I’m gonna go see if I can find them online! I’m trying my best to finish up my current toner so i can move on to thayers! I’ve never heard of bliss before, gonna go do my research!

            Liked by 1 person

          3. i think you could through Ulta, that’s how I got most of them LOL
Ulta also has Bliss, and they have so many products in there. I still haven’t tried the stuff I bought and I looked at Ulta this morning to look more into their stuff and I’m liking what they have to offer. I just have to finish more products before I decide to make another purchase.

  8. It’s a good idea to save that cleanser for colder months since it’s more creamy than a gel. I used one like that from Clean & Clear before and I was not a fan. I don’t really care for the thick, heavy cleansers since they don’t seem to leave my face feeling clean? But I could see how it would be nice over the winter for dry skin!

    Liked by 1 person

  9. I still haven’t tried the blush trio but I just cannot wait to! Sounds amazing & I love the swatches. 😍 I so wish I got the Dose lippie still & I had the exact same issues with the liquid eyeshadow!
