October 2017 Play! by Sephora Review + Swatches

Happy Thursday dolls!

I meant to post this review earlier this week but I got caught up doing a few other things that I had to push it. I did already receive my November box and will do an unboxing for you tomorrow, so be on the lookout for that.

In the meantime, here’s what I think about October’s products…

Bloom Eau de Parfum For Her

sephoraoct2017_gucci

Quick Description & Claims:

This blend embodies a diverse garden growing wild with rich jasmine bud, tuberose, and Rangoon creeper.

Fragrance Family: Floral
Top Notes: Rangoon Creeper
Middle Notes: Jasmine Bud
Base Notes: Tuberose

Mini Product Review:

I did NOT like the scent. I feel as though a lot of high-end perfumes reek of alcohol and I don’t like that one bit, they are just too strong for my liking. I think this is the last time I’m reviewing a perfume from this subscription, because I haven’t really liked any of them.

Cruelty Free? No.

Urban Decay
Quick Fix Hydracharged Complexion Prep Priming Spray

sephoraoct2017_urbandecay

Quick Description & Claims:

A pore-minimizing priming spray infused with coconut water for mega hydration and skin-soothing benefits. This ultra-light spray, inspired by the Korean water trend, soothes and smooths skin with a quick spritz for a hydrated, poreless appearance. Plus, the coconut water gives it a refreshing, tropical scent you’ll want to reapply.

Mini Product Review:

I was excited to get a priming spray because I had never tried one before. In all honesty, I didn’t notice a difference between a spray and a “lotion-like” primer. I did like that the spray nozzle sprayed evenly and I also like the mild coconut scent. My skin felt nice.

Cruelty Free? Yes.

IT Cosmetics
Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer in Medium

sephoraoct2017_itcosmetics

Quick Description & Claims:

A full-coverage, waterproof under-eye concealer that provides anti-aging benefits while dramatically reducing the appearance of dark circles. Missed a few hours of sleep last night? Add this extra step after priming skin and before applying foundation to instantly cover and gradually improve the look of dark circles.

Mini Product Review:

I was under the impression that this was a CONCEALER and it’s SOOOOO NOT. This is literally a highlighter and I was unaware of this fact the first time I used under my eyes. WHAT A MESS! It looked terrible! I don’t know why it’s marketed as a concealer. The swatch didn’t show much shimmer and I also felt as though the formula was THICK. I didn’t like it very much as a concealer, but I will* use it as a highlighter.

Perhaps I will give it another shot and see if I can make it work, but I wasn’t too pleased with my first impression of it. Did anyone get it and liked it?!

Cruelty Free? Yes.

MAKE UP FOR EVER
Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in Y335 Dark Sand

sephoraoct2017_mufe

Quick Description & Claims:

A fan-favorite foundation known for its long-wearing coverage and flawless finish that looks natural in every light. This formula’s lightweight texture is ideal for every skin type and with 40 shades, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a fit. It includes the latest in foundation innovation to create a satiny, seamless finish.

Mini Product Review:

This one looked a bit darker than my skin tone. I compared this foundation with the rest of the ones I have in my stash and it was a still a tad bit darker than any of my foundations so unfortunately, it didn’t work out for me. I didn’t really do a wear test so I’m not entirely sure how it would hold up during the day, but I did notice that it oxidizes a little bit, and it seems to be maybe light to medium coverage at best? It also seems to like it’s one of those foundations that looks natural and a little glowy.

I will be giving this away to my godmother’s daughter because she’s a little darker than me, this might suit her skin tone more.

Cruelty Free? No.

SEPHORA COLLECTION
Triple Action Cleansing Water

sephoraoct2017_sephora

Quick Description & Claims:

A refreshing no-rinse micellar water cleanser that removes makeup from your face and eyes in one swipe. This cleansing formula removes impurities with micellar water, soothing and moisturizing your skin for a super clean feeling sans water.

Mini Product Review:

I looooved this product! It’s my first time using a micellar water product and I was blown away, I cannot believe it has taken me so long to try it out. I love it and I found it perfect for when it’s so late at night and I’m too lazy or tired to go through my entire night skincare routine.

It helped take all my makeup off so fast and without needing to wash my face. It’s amazing!

Cruelty Free? No.

SUNDAY RILEY
C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum

sephoraoct2017_sundayriley

Quick Description & Claims:

A vitamin C concentrated serum that contains 15% vitamin C to brighten dark spots, and smooths and hydrates skin while delivering protective antioxidants and visible anti-aging benefits with a refreshing citrus scent.

Mini Product Review:

I loved how smooth this serum is. It also seemed to absorb into my skin fairly quickly. I also liked that it’s lightweight and a lovely, mild, citrus scent.

Cruelty Free? Yes.

  1. I think I’m with you about the perfumes in this box – I think I only received three or four that I didn’t dislike. And I wish we could put perfume preferences in our Play profiles.
The It Cosmetics concealer lines run incredibly light! I used their CC cream, and the Light shade was a little dark, but the Light shade in their original concealer (not the Illumination one) was easily three shades lighter than my skin tone and made me look sick. At least this Illumination one can be used as a highlight instead.
And ooooh that Sunday Riley serum… they’re a brand I want to try out so badly but just can’t justify the price tag!

    1. Ugh I would LOVE that! I’m not too into the sweet ones or strong scented ones, I like them to be floral and/or subtle.
This illumination concealer SCARED ME! I was like “OMG I thought this was a concealer!!” I had used a bit too much, had I known it was shimmery, I would have NEVER used that much, my gosh it was such a MESS! I looked terrible!! LOL.
Girl, I feel like that about many things, I honestly feel jealous that you can afford things at Sephora because I CAN’T! 😀

I love that you include if it’s cruelty free or not! ❤ I also have never tried micellar water–I didn't know it took your makeup off without having to wash your face! I wanna try lol.

    1. Yay, I’m glad someone appreciates it lol. Figured it would help people decide if they want to buy it or not. I don’t like buying makeup tested on animals, I may not be a vegan but this is one way I’m helping? LOL
And I know! You should definitely try it! I’m thinking I’m going to find a cruelty free brand to buy a whole bottle because SO MANY TIMES I’m too lazy to go through my entire skincare routine LOL. I just wanna get home, take off my makeup and go to sleep! lol

Yeah I don’t buy any products that are tested on animals either so I really do appreciate you doing the research to find out if the products in your bag are cruelty free or not! I feel that’s how I help even though I’m not vegan either haha.

If you do find that perfect micellar water, I’d love to know which brand you choose!!

P.S. I’m sorry if I missed some of your comments! I was MIA from WP all week and all my comments aren’t showing up in my notifications menu. It won’t happen again though, I promise, because I’ve turned the e-mail notifications on from now on. 😛

        1. It will be hard to find one, because Sephora isn’t cruelty free, and the other one I know about is garnier, which I know isn’t CF :/ I’ll have a look at Ulta and make sure and let you know

And no worries! I’ve been pretty absent all week I’m seriously behind on a lot of reading but I may end up skipping a few and only read the ones I’m interested in LOL

Yeah. I can’t believe it’s still so hard to find cruelty free products.

I’m behind too! And I always only read posts I’m interested in lol. Is that bad? 😕

          2. Not at all, I mean, technically I do the same, but every once in a while I like to show support to a few others that happen to be in my reader, and even more when they’ve shown me support too. 🙂 can’t tell you how many I’ve read in the past that have NEVER shown support, and even less after they’ve gone self hosted lol.

            Liked by 1 person

          3. Hunida

Yeah, I do like to show a little extra support to those who show me some! I get that!
I know, I don’t get those blogs that just ignore everyone!! Why do they even have blogs? 😦 and I don’t get when some people go self-hosted I no longer see their posts on my reader so I just unfollow them when I realize it. 😛

            Liked by 1 person

          4. I know right? Like they expect people to flock to their blog but never show any support to the smaller blogs. I will never understand that, like girl, humble yourself, you’re not famous. I feel like that’s another reason why I will typically not follow people, it seems weird but I do sometimes get a weird vibe from people like “wait…these people just want attention, they just want fame”.. hard PASS!
oh yeah, depends on which host they choose, usually their blogs will remain on the feed, but more often than not, their blog get redirected elsewhere, so that is kind of difficult. Also, a lot of money, which is why I’ve been putting it off for so long…I have no idea what I’m gonna do once my blog runs out of space 😦

          5. Hunida

Gosh, sometimes their blogs have less followers than me and they still ignore me and I don’t understand why…lol but the bigger following blogs, yeah…a lot of them do need to humble themselves, I agree with you there!! Hard pass for me, too on those blogs that so obviously just want fame! LOL.

Yes. SO confusing when blogs stop showing up on my reader or make me go somewhere else to read the post. It actually frustrates me and it often forces me to unfollow them, sometimes my browser says “pop-up blocked” lol.

Isn’t there an option where you can pay WP to give you more space?? I hope the day never comes that I run out of space lol. I actually went back and deleted some photos that I think aren’t being used on my blog anywhere so I hope I didn’t mess up any of my older posts but I bet I did somehow. I only cleared 1% too lol. 😦

            Liked by 1 person

          6. One of the annoying things from when people go self hosted is that they have to do all the work themselves, like there were many times when I couldn’t comment on their posts or like them, then how do I even show any “support”?! LOL

Yeah, you can pay, get more space, etc. But the personal (cheapest) only gives you a few more GB, which I guess would be fine, but I would run into a wall when I run out of that space too. Usually the bigger plans are also designed for bloggers who have a lot of traffic and I have practically none LOL

I have gone back to my old posts and deleted either photos, posts or both. I have also tried to be a bit more organized, which was the hardest thing. I’ll have to figure something out during december, I really want to fix up my blog a bit

            Liked by 1 person

          7. Hunida

Yeah, I’ve been on a lot of sites where you can’t like or comment on their posts. So weird!

Yeah it’s crazy how fast you run out of space too. Like I’m already at 25% and I’m only on my 5th month of blogging. 😦 I don’t want to have to start a whole new blog and I don’t want to delete any old posts either!! I was super unorganized when I first started…I didn’t even know I could run out of space or use the same photo more than once without uploading it again.
