BH Cosmetics Trendy in Tokyo Palette Review & Swatches + 3 Looks

I’ve missed you all so much! As you know, I’ve been busy busy with work that I hadn’t gotten much time to myself to do anything other than work and clean my home. Now that we’re settled in (for the most part) I have found a bit of time to work on my blog. 🙂

Anyway, today’s post is a palette review. I feel like I haven’t done one in ages, and I’m going to try my best to use one palette each month. I have started getting some motivation back to do some makeup and I bought some new goodies last year (and also recently) so I am excited to start playing with makeup again and sharpen my skills because I’m getting rusty!! Ok, let’s get start with today’s review, it’s none other than BH Cosmetics Trendy in Tokyo palette, which is gorgeous gorgeous!!

Packaging & Cost Breakdown

Typical from BH Cosmetics, we get a cardboard palette that comes in a cardboard sleeve. The palette itself does come with a mirror which is great for travel, but terrible for the environment. If you do end up tossing these kinds of palettes in the trash, just make sure you separate the mirror from the rest of the cardboard packaging and recycle. 🙂 Aside from that, the packaging is simple with pastel shades and each shade name is written underneath each pan.

This 16-pan palette has a net weight of 16 grams (or 0.56 oz) and retailed for $16.00 USD when I bought it, but the price has since increased to $17.00 USD on their website, bringing both the cost per pan and cost per gram to $1.06 USD.

Formula & Application

If you remember my lookbook for this palette from last year, you might have noticed that I mainly used the warm colors, and not so much the cool tones. That is because I had a harder time with the purples and blues than with the pinks, reds, and oranges. I think the blue ones were by far the worst to work with because they applied patchy and uneven. The purple one I was able to get work with, somewhat.

From experience, most of BH Cosmetics’ colorful palettes tend to lean on the chalky side, but their formulas have gotten better over the years. The majority of the matte shades are buttery smooth, but nothing like what you’d find in a Colourpop palette, or those of higher quality. They are however, getting closer. This palette’s formula is a huge upgrade compared to older palettes I have from them. Not to mention the pigment is really decent and buildable. The warmer shades blend the best, but the greens are also pretty decent. Again, the blue ones are the worst in this palette, in my opinion.

That being said, I’ve always been able to make their palettes work for me using various techniques, so even though some shades really suck, I don’t mind buying their palettes because their color stories are by far some of the most interesting in my opinion. Each and every time I’ve bought a colorful palette like this,  it’s always the BH Cosmetics palettes that bring out the creativity in me. I literally wrote down 25 different color combinations for this palette, and I plan on executing every single one, even if the looks totally bomb.
