January 2018 Boxycharm Review + Swatches

Hello dolls!

It seems I’m on a roll for posting several times a day so far this week. Though I may* publish one more post tonight, which will be an unboxing of my Sephora box.

But anyway, I wanted to get this review up before the month ends. I have a lot of things planned for the blog in the upcoming weeks but I also don’t know if I’ll be able to do it all–depends on how today ends up turning out. Will let you guys know all about it in my next WUW.

IT Cosmetics
Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil

Quick Description & Claims:

Developed with plastic surgeons, IT Cosmetics’ #1 best-selling*, award-winning eyebrow pencil is infused with brow-enhancing biotin, lecithin, saw palmetto, nettle, green tea, antioxidants, grape seed, and vitamins A, B5, C and E, plus proprietary Brow Power™ Technology to give you your most beautiful, natural-looking brows—even if you have none at all. Plus, its universal transforming shade adjusts to all hair colors based on pressure, its exclusive oval tip mimics the look of real hair and it includes a built-in grooming spooley brush for polished perfection! *#1 brow formula for IT Cosmetics brand.

Mini Product Review:

This eyebrow pencil isn’t new to me. I got a freebie at Ulta I think a year or so ago and I’m still using it to this day. It’s my favorite one to use instead of pomade. I like that it makes my eyebrows look pretty natural and I can go as dark or as light as I want. I also love that the other end of the pencil is a spoolie which comes in handy if you’re on the-go.

Some people have said it was a bit orange on them, so its “universal” claims aren’t quite true. I love this eyebrow pencil and I’m glad to have gotten another. I may end up throwing my old one away if it’s too dried out compared to the new one.

Cruelty Free? Yes.

Dr. Brandt
Pores No More Luminizer Primer

Quick Description & Claims:

LUMINIZER PRIMER delivers a natural radiant glow while blurring pores and imperfections for a beautifully illuminated flawless complexion.

Mini Product Review:

This primer is really nice. I noticed it had a little sheen on it but it’s barely noticeable on the skin. I only noticed the sheen when I looked at my fingers. But on the skin it looks seamless. It actually gives my skin a nice glow, I could probably wear it alone.

One thing I didn’t like as much is how fast it sinks into the skin, though that could be a good thing. But that means that I have to work fast and smooth it in all over my face. I ended up working in one area of my face at a time to avoid tugging on the skin. But despite that, I think it’s really, really good!

Cruelty Free? No.

Pür The Complexion Authority
Bronze and Brighten Cheek Palette

Quick Description & Claims:

An on-the-go highlight, bronzer and blush palette with three skin perfecting powders to create an effortless and sun-kissed glow on every skin tone. Featuring PUR’s fan favorites Afterglow and Mineral Glow along with a new blush shade, Blushing Glow, throw this in your bag and you’re ready to go!

Product Review:

Cheek palettes are really hard to love. This one for instance is really pigmented when swatched and I also like that they feel buttery smooth. I had to go easy on the bronzer and blush when I dipped my brush in there. However, my brushes wouldn’t pick up as much of the highlighter as they would the blush or bronzer, but there is a LOT of kickback for all of them. I honestly think that more falls out of the palette than my brush picks up, lol.

That aside, I don’t think this cheek palette is NOT for EVERYONE. The blush is okay, and I can pull it off if I use very small amounts and blend it perfectly. The highlighter has a golden sheen which looks good on skin tones with yellow undertones (like me). The bronzer however, I didn’t like. I lightly used it all over my face but I didn’t feel like it gave me that bronzed look I wanted. When I wanted to deepen the bronzer, it ended up looking orange on me, sooo terrible. I ended up using my go-to Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer.

One more thing, the blush and the bronzer have shimmer in them, not chunky mind you, but it will still show up on your skin when applied and I also didn’t like that. I don’t mind a little shimmer on blushes that much, especially if it makes my cheeks look radiant, but I have to pass up on the bronzer. I prefer my bronzer to be MATTE.

Cruelty Free? Yes.

Matte Lip Paint in Posh

Quick Description & Claims:

One of the original liquid lipstick formulas that is still true to its words – it’s lightweight, long wearing, non-cracking and won’t settle. For better application, do not apply a lip balm or lip primer before application.

Mini Product Review:

I didn’t think much of the lipstick at first until I actually wore it on the lips. Oh my gosh! So creamy and smooth for a matte formula. One swipe and it gives full coverage, whaaa?! And get this: NO drying, feathering, or cracking! Even when my lips were dry! Yassss!!

Also, it’s such a gorgeous shade, I don’t have anything like this in my stash and I’ve already worn it several times because I love the shade. It’s like a terracotta shade and I love that the undertones are orange-brown. And is smells like vanilla!

I’ve been wearing this shade a lot this season, even though it seems like it would be more for Autumn, but I’m pulling it off pretty good. 🙂

Cruelty Free? Yes.

Crown Pro
Glam Metals Palette

Quick Description & Claims:

Rock your look with the Crown Pro Glam Metals eyeshadow palette! These highly pigmented, ultra blendable shadows make smokey eye looks a breeze!

Mini Product Review:

This is a hard one, which is why I’m reviewing it last. I have a love-hate relationship with eyeshadow palettes because they have to tick off all the boxes for me:

  • Good balance of shimmers and mattes
  • Transition shades
  • Creamy, buttery smooth formula
  • Little-to-no kickback (though it’s out of my control)
  • Blends easily

This palette has everything EXCEPT mattes/transition shades because it’s all foiled eyeshadows. Though I could probably say that the black shade (Black Metal) is more matte than foiled because it lacks the shimmer that all the other shades have.

The formula is great, they’re all really soft and they’re NOT chunky–which can be a problem with foiled eyeshadows. They’re also very highly pigmented and their pigment is more intense when you wet your brush.

I think for the price it’s a good palette–if foiled eyeshadows are your thing. I have been using this palette lately and I really like how pigmented the shades are but as someone who doesn’t have that much time to do makeup, I do need a palette that also has everyday shades and unfortunately, these aren’t your everyday shades. This palette is more for night-out looks in my opinion because of how intensely pigmented they are. Also, a lot of the shades in here pair well with a smokey eye rather than alone because they’re pretty intense on their own.

It’s a good palette like I said, but I honestly don’t see myself reaching for it as much as I thought I would unless I need a really pigmented shade for whatever reason, but then, a lot of my other palettes have pigmented shades–and I have a lot of other coppers, browns and gold shades too.

Cruelty Free? Yes.

That’s incredible! 😀

For the first MOTD I used Wild Thing (on the lids), The Wicked (to smoke it out) and Rock On (inner corner) from the Glam Metals Palette. I lightly used the PUR Cheek Palette all over the face and the Girlactik Lip Paint.

The second MOTD I used Glam Rock on the lids because I wanted something more bronzey and subtle and used Pop Rock on the inner corner. Only used the blush and highlighter from the PUR Cheek Palette and the Girlactik Matte Lip Paint.

First, the swatches for the PUR Cosmetics Cheek Palette, the Girlactik Matte Lip Paint (I’m sorry the swatch totally sucks), and the IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil.

Next the Crown Pro Glam Metals Palette. The top photo is dry swatches, the bottom photo is swatches with a wet brush.

    1. OMG I’m sorry it took me so long to reply to this comment! It was on my spam and I’m barely going through it! LOL but thank you! It was a great box! 🙂

  1. I really like both those looks! That eye palette looks like it could use a companion palette with some more matte transition/finishing shades, but at least it’s only really missing things you already own? And that lippie looks gorgeous on you!

But yeah, I agree, it definitely needs some transition shades and a companion palette would be pretty perfect!! 🙂

  2. Thanks! And yeah, it’s a food palette just needs some transition shades, it’s good for those of us who have transition shades but not everyone has them. And thank you! I fell in love with the lipstick shade when I first wore and have been wearing it a lot.
