September 2017 Play! by Sephora Review + Swatches

Haaaappy Thursday!

I have had a good and lazy week so far, which is good for me but bad for my blog because I have started to fall behind… I did say I wanted to take it easy this month (being my birthday month) but even if I’m not on here or on social media, just know I’m still working on something, and it’s coming very soon! πŸ˜‰

Also, I’m working on reading blog posts, I believe I’m 2 or 3 days behind which isn’t much. But I’ll get there. I’ve read so many good ones so far! πŸ™‚ Anyway…let’s get on with this box! πŸ˜€

Theme: Fall Into Beauty

I like the bag this month, so nice and silky smooth unlike the crappy ones we got during the summer. I even like the writing on the bag “Change of Face”, to me that signifies changing my skincare routine (and even my makeup to be honest) to go with the season change. It’s getting colder and let’s face it, the weather tends to wreck havoc on my skin.

Bag Contents:

  • Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear Waterproof in Black Lace
  • Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in Deep
  • Algenist POWER Recharging Night Pressed Serum
  • IGK Hot Girls Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb
  • Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Amulet

This is my favorite bag so far. I liked most of the products this month, and I also thought it was a pretty good balance between makeup and skincare.

Hot Girls Shampoo & Conditioner

Quick Description & Claims:

Perfect for heat tool addicts and damaged and colored hair this shampoo and conditioner combo takes stressed out strands to touchably soft and silky.

Shampoo: Shea butter locks in moisture and vitamin-rich hydrogenated olive oil helps to protect.
Conditioner: Litchi extract helps to protect hair from pollution, while vitamin E conditions–making it more lustrous, shinnier, and stronger.

Key Benefits:
These two products contain the IGK Miami scent: lush, vibrant notes of guava, coconut water, pink lotus, midnight violet, and vanilla.

Mini Product Review:

I’m picky when it comes to shampoo and conditioner because not all of them work for my hair type. I did like that these were a bit hydrating, but it was a very subtle difference and not really something to write home about.

The shampoo didn’t do anything but the conditioner made my hair much softer and shinnier. I wanted to like this, but the scent of vanilla is one of my least favorite, I don’t like sweet smells very much and they make my head hurt. Too bad because I really liked the conditioner.

Cruelty Free? Unsure.

Benefit Cosmetics
Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in Deep

Quick Description & Claims:

Volumizing, water-resistant fiber gel mimics the look of real hair to create thick, lush-looking brows.

If you’re going for the bold brows that are a trend for fall, this cult favorite, easy-to-use formula is the answer.

Mini Product Review:

I used their old gimme brow product that I once received in my Birchbox and I really liked it (I assume they just vamped up the packaging?). I used this one very lightly because it looked a bit dark. I like that it sort of fills in my sparse areas and it keeps my brows in place all day. I’ll have to give bolder, fuller brows a try with this product and see if it really works.

Cruelty Free? No.

Sephora Collection
Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear Waterproof in Black Lace

Quick Description & Claims:

Creamy, easy-to-apply pencil with a long-lasting, waterproof formula that glides on smoothly.

This beauty bag must-have is the one we reach for to enhances eyes with bold, precise strokes of color and to create a fashion-forward look that keeps going. All. Day. Long.

Mini Product Review:

I recently decluttered my vanity (vids will be coming soon!) and I threw away a bunch of eye pencils so it’s nice to receive some. The universe just knows what I need right now, lol!

Anyway, it’s very smooth, didn’t smudge, and lasts all day in my waterline. I’ve been really into using black eye pencils to create a simple, subtle wing and sort of smoking it out a bit (MOTD below). This one works really well for that, even when I want to do an everyday makeup look but slightly smokey. I’m sure this eye pencil wouldn’t disappoint if I were to do another intense smokey eye.

Cruelty Free? No.

The True Cream Aqua Bomb

Quick Description & Claims:

Refreshing gel-cream formula drenches skin in a burst of cooling, light-as-a-feather moisture. Thanks to antioxidant-rich botanical extracts from a leafy herb called lady’s mantle, this oil-free moisturizer is beloved for its incredible hydrating powers and light-than-lightweight feel.

Mini Product Review:

This moisturizer reminded me of the Milk Makeup Cooling Water Stick that I received in my July 2017 Play! by Sephora box. I absolutely loved that one so it’s nice to have gotten another product just like it but in a gel-cream form.

This formula really is super lightweight and my skin feels so nice and hydrated! So great that it’s oil free!

Cruelty Free? Yes.

POWER Recharging Night Pressed Serum

Quick Description & Claims:

Highly concentrated solid serum melts into skin to smooth and visually refine dull, uneven complexions.

This potent serum is made with Alguronic Acid, a powerful chemical compound that occurs in micro algae and helps to regenerate and protect the skin. It was discovered by Algenist scientists and is exclusive to their highly effective line.

Mini Product Review:

Ever since I received the GlamGlow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer in my August 2017 Play! by Sephora box, I’ve been curious about these pressed products and this month I received another one! This one is of course a serum, but I love how the formula feels thick when you’re scooping it out, and just melts into your skin!! Ahhh!!

This product was so satisfying to use and also very good for my skin. One of my favorites in this month’s box!

Cruelty Free? No.

Urban Decay
Vice Liquid Lipstick in Amulet

I apologize for the low-quality photos for this product.
I didn’t realize I had forgotten to photograph the lipstick. 😦

Quick Description & Claims:

Waterproof, intensely pigmented liquid lipstick in a satin-matte brick rose shade.

Looking to pump up the color for fall? This richly pigmented garnet hue is out go-to because it has a soft matte finish that doesn’t feather or move as your apply.

Mini Product Review:

I loooove lipsticks! And I love liquid lipsticks even more, and also, mattes are some of my all-time favorite.. However, satin mattes are quickly becoming my favorite because of the formula and this one is AMAZING to say the least!!

I love how it has subtle shimmer, but still pretty matte. Not only is the shade super gorgeous and perfect for fall, it stayed put ALL DAY! I’m so excited to finally be able to try an Urban Decay lipstick, I was not disappointed!!

Cruelty Free? Yes!

I’m wearing the Melisa Michelle x Ulta Makeup Palette on my eyes and face, the Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil to tightline and to smoke out the outer corner of my eye a bit. I lightly used the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel on my brows and the Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Amulet on the lips!

  1. We got the same products except for the shampoo and conditioner! I thought this was a pretty good selection of products, but I could have used the medium shade for the brow gel.

  2. Talk about the perfect autumn lip color! I friggin love that shade, it looks great on too. I received a different color/brand but I wasn’t too fond of it. I swear I need to do like a giveaway with all the products I didn’t and don’t plan on using there’s just so much. However, I loved the Belief gel cream too, I used all of mine up but it was amazing!!! I would seriously consider buying the full version I loved how it made my skin feel.

    1. I know right? The shade is just so freaking stunning!! Awh really? That’s too bad! The products I know I won’t ever use or don’t match my skin tone I tend to giveaway. I do have a small stash of products that people didn’t claim in the past, but I decided to keep them all for a giveaway when I reach 1k followers lol.
Yesss!!! The aqua cream bomb was freaking amazing!!! It reminded me of the Milk Makeup cooling water stick from another Sephora box during the summer. And girl, I would consider buying the full size too! It’s THAT amazing, it’d almost worth it to splurge.
